  • @jericoparazo Yeah, and Hans Ulrich Rudel, Johannes Steinhoff and Erich Hartmann.

  • @jericoparazo

I agree and by doing so he always kept the Tigers frontal armour pointed at the enemy. The guy knew what he was doing thats for sure.

  • strange ??? if germans would've won at the Kurks they would've won the war. Why are you talking about lucky bastard who simply took longer to die than others :)))

  • @ReaperCoffee Germany lost the war with the failure of Fall Blau... A victory at Kursk would only have posponed the inevitable defeat.

  • @0willsy01 Here bud we've gone on long enough! You believe one thing, I believe the other. But I'm not saying the tank did that kind of damage. It's not as if the 17 pound round hit the tank and then it exploded instantly. It was the internal explosion caused by the ammo and fuel igniting after the tank round hit it that did the damage. That's a highly plausible thing to happen. And I'm in no way biased. I've no affiliation with either side. As I said I'm just interested in the history is all

  • fajne :)

  • @0willsy01 And the fact the hull wasn't totally destroyed also seems to suggest it wasn't a rocket from a Typhoon that hit his tank. Also rocket attacks were highly inaccurate and it's come to light that very few Panzer's were actually destroyed by Allied fighters. So I'm guessing because Wittmann walked into an attack from Allied tanks covering both his flanks it's seems highly probable a tank knocked out his Tiger.

  • @0willsy01 The Allies? I forgot we were in 40's I suppose. Jesus man this is a factual documentary about the history of the event. Nobody's trying to blindside anyone with propaganda. It's what, 67 years since Wittmann died why would they sensationalise what actually occurred. The operations record book of the 2nd Tactical Air Force proves there was no Typhoon kills made in Wittmann's area of operations on the 8th of August.

  • @0willsy01 Eh ok so you obviously don't realise "boy" is general slang here in Ireland especially Waterford where I'm from. I'm sorry if I upset you, although it must have touched a nerve but in fairness you really are acting like a "fanboy"! There is no debate on this... here's a comprehensive documentary on the subject "Michael Wittmann's Last Battle", look it up on YouTube! It's a good account of what actually happened.

  • @0willsy01 Yeah whatever boy! We all know Wittmann was a great Panzer ace, that's obvious but his Tiger was destroyed by a tank, end of! I know in your fan boy mind it's different but hey let's just leave it because I'm not arsed debating this anymore. Fans simply can't accept the fact this 'god' was disposed of in a routine action by Allied soldier's who didn't even realise who they'd killed! And how wouldn't the turret fly off if ammo and fuel blow the tank up from the inside out?

  • @0willsy01 There has been extensive research done on this. It's been proven that a rocket from a Typhoon would have obliterated the Tiger not just remove the turret. The Sherbrooke Fusiliers Regiment were less than 150m's away. They were behind solid cover and Wittmann's Tiger was ripe for the taking as it rode through an open field. The reason the turret came off is once the fuel ignited the tank exploded from the inside causing the turret to shoot through the air.

  • @0willsy01 There is no opinion on this matter anymore just facts! His tank was not destroyed by fighter bombers! That was a myth created by German propagandist's...' the invincible Michael Wittmann was destroyed by the dreaded Jabo's'. RAF logs mention nothing of a tank attack on August 8th & even Kurt Meyer stated how he was surprised no tactical fighters were deployed against his Panzers on the 8th. It was actually a tank from the Sherbrooke Fusiliers Regiment that destroyed Wittmann's Tiger!

  • @Rottwhaler82 escaped the nurmburg trials eh?

  • I wonder who got the tiger 1337 tank! Surly he can feel us future Leet trolls from the future!

  • amazing

  • Bobbi Wohl needs more props.... no matter how good a commander you may be, if your gunner is awful, it won't account for much (back then), and the opposite holds true too - they made a great team. One just hardly hear much about Wohl.

  • I wonder why the josef stalin tank didnt shoot before wittman destroyed it. The gun was pointed on wittman before wittman started to swing the tank to the left and fired a shot.

  • According to Company Of Heroes i am the one who killed Wittman.

  • Comment removed

  • Imagine if Wittman coached the NY Jets.

  • dem besten soldaten--die beste waffe.

  • what a waste

  • this guy was amazing what great skills he had if theres a soldiers heaven he is there with out a doubt

  • this guy had skills damn

  • 138 tank kills and 132 Anti-Tankgun kills in his Career this is absolutely unbelievable!

  • gawd all these english war nerds. "oooh, the tiger, such a big gun"... was about the 4th best tank design of WW2

  • @CNCTEMATIC you know bill agtes is a Nerd...and his damn rich i wouldnt mind being a nerd as long as i hade that money

  • My god, this guy was a 1 man army. I can't even imagine how a single tank could take out so many in such a short time, much like I can't imagine Clint Eastwood taking out a dozen before one can even aim their gun at him.

  • what are the small columns on the side of tank turret? 9:10

  • @imgordonfreeman: Those, I've read, were grenade launchers. Not so much for anti-peronnel purposes, but most likely smoke grenades in concealing maneuvers of the tank itself and that of supporting troops.

  • @RayPluton ahhh, that make sense, thanks alot for clearing it up for me. it has been puzzling me for quite a while lol

  • If ever people will be arguing about who killed one, he must have been one hell of a soldier. - My honors & respects to you, Michael Wittmann and Bobby Wall...

  • "Allies" destroyed Wittman's Tiger! As an American I shudder when my fellow Americans act like WE won the war. Nonsense. ALL the allies working together stopped the Nazi scum from desecrating all of Europe and more. They only got to play "master race" for a few years before their country and their greatest warriors like Wittman were destroyed. Wittman's still a hero, no matter what flag he fought under. Many anonymous GI's were just as brave, but got no glory...

  • Comment removed

  • good heavens, his numbers at 5 days of Kursk alone is more than most commanders during their whole career...

  • What a legend. Michael Wittmann's last tiger tank number was 007.

  • @mingzod u need 2 stop sniffing glue. its like totally fucking with your mind!!!!

  • It was a Canadian crew driving a British tank that destroyed Wittman's tank. At the time of the battle the Canadian crew was less than 150 m;s away, the Brits were areound 5=600 m's

  • Wittman's respect (fear?) of the anti-tank guns is well placed. Since 85% of the M4 Sherman's had the low velocity, 75mm gun, the threat of well camoflauged anti-tank guns were a Tiger Commander's worst nightmare. I'd like to add that the bravery of manning the anti-tank guns can never be overstated. You had no protection and no mobility. You had to be VERY Brave and Patient like a sniper with a huge gun. Thanks for posting these great vids about a great warrior!

  • Hey this guy got my name. And he was born only a few kilometers away from my hometown. Lol

  • maybe you are a reletative

  • tank battles being a daily work...crazy.i kind of fail to imagine how that must have been like

  • Every Army has his Heroes, all Countries can be proud of it.

In Germany it seems like honor this Heroes its a Crime!!

    Wittmann,Rudel,Hartmann,Skorzeny,Marseille,Galland the list is long.

Brave Soldiers you will be never forgotten!!!

And be sure that have nothin to do with any nazi shit.!!!!

I really love to be German, the same way, all others love their own Country

  • why they have not made a movie of this super man, god knows, ? probably hollywood dont like blonde heroes...

  • Where did this one arm chair expert come from? I have heard so many different stories and read them about how Micheal Wittman was killed, carpet bombing the a 25pounder anti tank crew the a firefly Sherman, The only one I believe is the old farmer who saw it, why would a FRENCHMAN lie about that?

  • Also to clear up a point the British have always said they killed Wittman, I guess to make up for the terrible defeat at Villars Bocage. A French farmer told the story that he saw thier tank destroyed not by a anti tank gun but and aircraft that hit them directly and to prove it he took them to the graves and when they dug them up the autopsy confirmed it was Michael and his crew so I trust the Farmers story.

  • If you notice the expert knowit all always has the reason Micheal Wittmans succesess were becaus of luck, Sorry no such thing! And commenting that his tallys are high because of their poor quality, Bull the t 34 were super good tanks and Wittman was not lucky it was skill and the combination of his skills and bobby Voll that was what kept them alive and the rest of the crew were excellent and they took care of their Tiger. Micheal was a great assault tank commander also.

  • Wittmann's heroics and bravery deserve praise, I don't care what army he fought for. Also, praise must be given to his superb crew, including his remarkable gunner, loader and driver. Let's never forget the one thing that makes an "Ace" stand apart from other men killed in their early engagements... LUCK!!

  • michael wittmann was born only 2 kilometers away from me...

  • Thanks for posting this excellent series!

  • um heroi de guerra! assim como aquiles, alexandre e outros....

  • @dunknG hehe, that made my day :)

  • Some people are born with no fear. Are not afraid to die and doing everything right. If it was today he probebly should be an excellent racingdriver.

  • The finest of the finest.

    Real leadership and commitment.

Also part of history concerning SS-Viking.

  • one of the best commanders ever existet.just respect grate man

  • disregarding his belonging to SS he was an outstanding man.

  • @Arsennij

"Disregrading his belonging to SS!" I think someone needs reminding that all combat units have comitted so called war crimes. Allies had some viscious reprisals against the german people, who were not Nazis. It's all this moralising that is so tedious. Just judge them on being an elite force of WWII & not focus on atrocities. That's all.

  • these guys were hardcore

  • @Len1977gt

    JA!!

you bet ya! The Waffen~SS were highly trained and skilled warriors and only surrendered if ambushed without a real chance to fight; this happened only rarely I assure you!

  • @Arsennij why you have to disregard his belong to SS

  • most overused background music EVER

  • I love this music, very serious and melacholy, perfect for this story

  • MUSLIM OR CATHOLIC?

  • you have a problem with jews?

  • Kapteen I just don't understand people who DON'T want the Nazis back!If you could think rationally, reasonably and -oh,how I love that expression,"progressively" you would comprehend the global situation. That's all Sieg Heil and good morning.

  • Leibstandarte nicht Liebstandarte! Why cannot people who wish to comment on Germany not learn how to speak the language? The yanks refer to Johnny Weissmueller as Jonny Wiessmuller-two completely different names!

  • buaaaah DX

  • No i aint. But that's not the point. Besides M Wittmann was a ace. respect.

I just don't understand ppl who wants Natzis back......

  • The uploader needs to rephrase "Both Polish and British unit claim destroying his Tiger" to "Canadian, Polish and British units claim destroying his Tiger"

  • So many units claim to have destroyed his Tiger.

  • @kingtiger88 ...i think my grandfather destroyed wittmanns tiger with his cane, my GF was a grumpy old man :P

  • 88,817 views ;P what a number

  • @ScreamingSadist hell, MY unit destroyed his Tiger....

  • @ScreamingSadist and liebstandarte....lieb means lovely or nice...it is leibstandarte...pronounced... laaib-standarte..

  • @ScreamingSadist The Canadians actually did though.

  • @xsnowbearx bullshit.

  • @Maggot4000 The Polish didn't because they were not on the Western Front in France, and the closest British tank platoon to were Wittmann's tank was reportedly destroyed was out of range. The Canadians killed Michael Wittmann.

  • @xsnowbearx just like they killed the Red baron (or Aussies no one really knows but I beleive it was the canadians)

  • @jasincl Look on youtube for a Video which is entitled "Who killed Michael Wittmann?" They do a detailed analysis of his last action and conclude he was killed in crossfire from the Sherbrooke Fusiliers and their Sherman tanks.

  • @ScreamingSadist I DESTROYED HIS TANK!

  • The Tiger I is one sexy machine.

  • @Fendergrunge

    Beautiful designe, ain't it?

  • how abt joseph gunther schultz?

  • Wittmann was the best!!! Case closed

  • 08:01 bobby should have got some medals too

  • If you look at the photos, you'll see that Wohl has both the Iron Cross 1st Class AND the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross; What more do you want?

  • isreal is very racial like the nazist ! very weird

  • Alliess won teh war!!! So it is quite useless to whine here about it anymore. Let's just hope that there will be no more arseholes like old Adolf and Stalin again.

Only good thing about ww2 is that we have now Israel.

    Erez Israel!

  • this s great. can u upload vids about kurt knipsel

  • A´t 7:00 dead. - What tank is that?

  • Josef Stalin 1

    Sovjet Heavy Tank

  • it's russian heavy tank IS-1 or Josif Stalin 1 heavy tank

  • Yeah it's me just another name....

anyway as an agnostic/atheist I don't think they'd welcome me "headbanging" at the wall.

+ israel isn't a peacful place, si I think I'll pass on the offer.

  • If you don't like Europe, go live in china or better yet Pakistan, see how you like it there. No jews to push you about, but you'd probably suffocate in your piss after a week. But, no jews, I''d like to emphasize that.

  • Wittman was the top tank commander in history. The americans can make all the saving private ryans they like but the rest of the plantet knows the truth.

  • hey im american but i know our tanks and crews were bad compared to the german panzers

  • I'd kick his ass in BF2 though.

  • yáááá

vát a pity zey lost ze var enayvay...HHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH

  • what can you say!!! wittman was a legend, he was german and some say he was fighting for an evil empire, but as a soldier and tank commander, top class!!!

  • I just hate when the guy who speaks cant say Leibstandarte. :P

  • the way he says it translates roughly to 'love standard'.

  • Comment removed

  • I would translate it to life standard.

  • Life Guard would be a better translation, in that it makes more sense to an English ear than Life Standard.

The mispronunciation is irritating though - couldn't they have just checked?

  • Well perhaps.

The where acting as life guards but it sounds terrible to call decision for life guard. Therefore I would prefer the other one.

  • You can prefer what you like of course but it doesn't make sense in English to call the Leibstandarte the Life Standard. It's a literal - and poor - translation.

  • "Standarte" is german meaning for a type of flag. "Leib" simply means "body". Therefore, "Leibstandarte" roughly translates to something akin to "Personal flag". They are constantly mispronouncing it as "Leebstandart". It is pronounced "Libstandart-e", as in "Lie"

  • The term bodyflag or personalflag is meaningless is English. As I said before, your translation is literal and poor. If you want to translate the term properly into English, the term would be bodyguard. I guess you don't know much about translation.

  • @teutonalex Its actually " personal body gaurds" of Adolf Hitler. thus the name Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler upon thier creation.

  • or Obersturmführer or Hauptsurmführer all ranks...

  • @Paskaaja sounds like it's edited in..

  • good god, Wittman's a beast! Hes like the Achilles of WW2 lol

  • @scorpion068 No its another guy who flew a Stuka he had hundreds of kills including battleships.

  • Unscathed thru 5 days of the Battle of Kursk is incredibly lucky; kills of 30 T34s, 28 Anti-tank guns & 2 artillery batteries, wow! It is amazing too that his Tiger held up mechanically through all that carnage.

  • A little aside, did anyone catch the scene at 6:37 where the Tiger crewman boards his tank by leaping up and grabbing the barrel, swinging himself on top of it and crawling into his hatch?

I guess that's the safest way to clamber aboard a moving tank without running the risk of getting run over. But you've got to be agile enough and the gun barrel has to be sticking out perpendicular.

  • At my age I would probably fall on my ass LOL. Yes I've seen that before. Also love to see American bomber pilots pull themselves into a B-17 from below the cockpit

  • @pinz2022 yeah he's like "If i could turn back time, if I could find a way..." (Cher) lol

  • The JS1s were scary looking tanks, but not armored enough to withstand 88mm rounds.

  • JS1? dont you mean KV-1?

  • Joseph Stalin 1 was another name for it, I believe.

  • The JS 1 and the KV 1 are two different tanks..

  • No.

The KV series became obsolete by 1943. Some features of it where used in it's successor, the IS (Ioseph Stalin) series.

  • actualy it was renamed becasue the creator of the KV1 (kliment voroshilov) fell out of political favour. other than that you are correct.

  • Jospeh Stalin 1 = JS1

  • nobody knows who destroyed his tiger, anyone who commanded tank or was plane pilot could claim to have destroyed. so shut up.

  • While true, apparently they compared effective ranges for armour penetration from the various weapons the allies used, and the only unit in close enough range to knock it out were a Canadian armoured platoon (Not sure on unit size, but they were Canadians)

  • who was the american tank ace?

  • no1

  • lol

  • RIP

  • it was proven by a large study that michael was killed by a canadian tank.

  • a british firefly actually.

  • an airplane actually

  • yupp, that's correct, he was a victim of a Typhoon sortie, kindea sad..

  • A large dildo actually

  • an anti tank mine actually

  • I believe that Michael Wittman is portraited as SS Tank's Ace, but regarless his ideology

HE WAS A SOLDIER Who fought under SS division

his duty was for Germany because must of the

German soldiers had a Great sense of Duty and

loyalty and they fought until the end not because of Hitler they dit it because Germany

the people of Germany. Even so, they were people who conspaired against Hitler because they new Germany was going to lose the war and stop the crimes of war from the Nazis.

  • Yes Germany had the best army, weapons and generals but were fighting for an evil ideology and Hitler led them to defeat with his idiotic tactical decisions.

  • Yes, but Hitler also turned multiple countries against himself, like Russia, and that was also one of the reasons that the Nazi lost the war.

    And there was other reasons.

One example was about the tanks in ww2, America could massproduce more than the Nazi, and even if tanks like the Sherman wasent as good as a Tiger, they could be massproduced, building masses of them and overwhealm the Tigers. But no doupt, the Tiger was a nightmare in combat for the allies.Lets hope there will be no ww anymore

  • Yes an overwhelming force for the tigers... but at what cost for the allies? The amount of deaths from the allies combined far exceeded the losses of the germans and thats nothing to brag about. They may have 'won' the war, but allies had far more dead, and destroyed in battle. Its like 1million rats, dying to try and kill 1 bear.

  • Germany had the best soldiers in world

  • Warum werden solche reportagen nicht im deutschen Fernsehen gebracht????

  • Hey alexklos I don't speak German. Don't know if you speak English. But did you just ask why this type of reporting isn't done in German documentaries? If that' so, I wonder why all that is.

  • watch the news reels...

  • Why is something like that not shown on German TV?

Because it is a worrying glorification of war, violence, murder and criminal fanaticism.

Warum wird das nicht im deutschen Fernsehen gezeigt?

Weil es eine besorgniserregende Glorifizierung von Krieg, Gewalt, Mord und kriminellem Fanatismus ist.

  • So you want to tell me that german Television is censored?

Good to know. Who decides, what Germans are allowed to watch?

  • German television is by no means censored. I think that there are few countries in the world which have a more balanced and unbiased program than Germany. What I am talking about in my first comment is not about WHAT is presented but rather HOW it is presented in case you can tell the both apart. There are tons of WWII documentaries on German TV illuminating many different aspect in a rather neutral way. This one here is just making heroes out of the members of a criminal organization.

  • I don't see it as such. Look, most military geniuses had a criminal/killer instinct in them. I think one should learn from anyone's acomplishments, regardless of ideology.

  • Repeat:

German television is by no means censored.

  • Is Wittmann a criminal? What were his war crimes if he went to trial?? The SS was a massive organization and the criminal activities of a small percentage are used to pass judgment on the rest. But the SS did have units such as "Totenkopf" and with a name like that you are not out to make friends

  • I was not primarily referring to Wittmann but rather to the attitude which is conveyed in this "documentary" in general. As a matter of fact, the Waffen SS in general and the LSAH in particular were involved in numerous massacres, Malmedy for example. Unlike the regular German army the Waffen SS was solely intended to be an instrument of oppression and crimes against humanity and inappropriate relentless behavior towards civilians, combatants and POWs alike were part of their mission...

  • ...their mission and their sick ideological "education". That has nothing to do with something like "...not out to make friends..." as you put it. After all, they committed these crimes in countries they were not supposed to be in in the first place, remember? Their opponents had all reason and justification to hit them as hard as they could as they were the aggressor.

  • Yup. Even so, every army commits some sort of crime, starting with murder.

  • it is shown on Discovery Channel...so in Germany too.

  • Great leader and solider.

  • Lets see here... Michael Wittmann destroyed:

    30 T-34s

    28 AT guns

    2 artillery batteries

at Kursk alone. That is quiet a score for a 5 day battle. Michael Wittmann was a very awesome panzer ace he just was good at kicking ass.

  • "another first comment"

    congrats, idiot

  • he was a natural in warfare
