I also like Invernizzi's version and Berganza's. Also Kozena sings this aria very beautiful and emotional. But I'd prefer her in Agitata infido flatu as it's supposed to be sung by a mezzo, and Armate by soprano. These are all very beautiful versions, feast for the ears. It's an exquisite recording as there are also 2 countertenors - great Jose Lemos and a very good, I've never heard before Richard Bordas, a bit reminded me wonderful Canadian countertenor Matthew White! I think both singers present extreme vocal accomplishment and appear to deliver this aria for the pure joy and exhilaration of the music and give us a chance to enjoy for both of those things as well. Cecilia has nothing to be ashamed of but you do, with captions like that.
She is talented, no one can deny that...but her rendition of this song is, to be quite frank...hideous. First off, the women is supposed to be pissed off, triumphant, it's supposed to be glorious sounding...and all she gives is passive-aggressive lop-sided vibrato. Please read the lyrics! Secondly, what the hell is up with the rubato? It occurs at several points... 1:43 is one of the most disgusting ones of the whole piece, way to kill off the energy! Bartoli far exceeded this performance.

The title is so rude! Anyway, Bartoli's voice is weak and she hides her many technical flaws behind her extreme pathos and feelings, and it's useless that her fans try to pretend that's not true. I prefer Gauvin, even if this performance has nothing of baroque style... she and the orchestra seem to be playing Verdi, Vivaldi would probably say a great "What the hell?!" if he could hear this. :/

Anche l'orchestra e il direttore hanno gli spartiti davanti agli occhi, e in teoria dovrebbero avere provato talmente tante volte da conoscere a memoria quello che stanno per suonare. I cantanti non li usano durante l'opera semplicemente perché lo scopo della recitazione è avvicinarsi il più possibile alla realtà, non fare 'capire' di stare recitando, essere spontanei, e nella realtà la gente non gira con fogli e leggii.. ma se non gli tocca recitare, perché non averli?

I think both singers present extreme vocal accomplishment and appear to deliver this aria for the pure joy and exhilaration of the music and give us a chance to enjoy for both of those things as well. Cecilia has nothing to be ashamed of but you do, with captions like that.

She is talented, no one can deny that...but her rendition of this song is, to be quite frank...hideous. First off, the women is supposed to be pissed off, triumphant, it's supposed to be glorious sounding...and all she gives is passive-aggressive lop-sided vibrato. Please read the lyrics! Secondly, what the hell is up with the rubato? It occurs at several points... 1:43 is one of the most disgusting ones of the whole piece, way to kill off the energy! Bartoli far exceeded this performance.

You yourself said that Karine's rendition of this is "as thrilling as Cecilia Bartoli's". So enjoy Opera & not divide it. We all have our favourites that's all. Karine is Fabulous too!

After reading the description and title on this video I can only come to one conclusion. Whoever wrote them is a turd. Why is there a need to pit two professionals against each other? Like if they cared. Just take your pick and buy her albums. If you don't like Bartoli, I can understand that. But to not recognize her talent only means that you are deaf, blind and dumb. Non sa neanche proiettarla bene, dal vivo dicono quasi tutti che la sua voce risulta piccolissima. Senza contare che è incapace di qualsivoglia legato, e non è che lo omette per scelta stilistica come faceva la Deutekom. L'unica cosa che sa fare è stupire con la sua coloratura a mitraglia che a me pare una raffica di martellate.
