  • How many thumbs I got? 2 down.

  • i say i'm an atheist but i'm actually a pagan. my god is big speakers and bangin techno music.

  • frankie knuckles was not involved in the creation of techno. however, defending the guy who said that, very early detroit techno (when it wasn't even called techno) was seen as a satellite genre of the chicago house movement. early techno tracks from detroit would be given to frankie knuckles and ron hardy to be tested at places like the music box. frankie never got into it and stuck with disco but the early techno was linked to the chicago scene. detroit's scene was nonexistent at the time.

  • que mesa es

  • @djlemmyb That's true you are right, let's all come together I take back what I said and let's all enjoy music in the name of humanity. :)

  • Derrick May The Original, from the D 1st hear his mix on the radio(1986)a Legend along with Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson all Pioneers and Inventors of the eletronic sound you here today

  • If someone approaches it honestly and without an emotionally-held agenda, they'll see that African, European, and Latin cultures have had an enormous influence on the music we listen to in the West today. (That isn't to mention India and other cultures as well, in a lesser capacity.)

  • man can spin.

  • gay people make the party - we have the best fashion and clubs in the world. And the straight people are creating the gays so we love them! xxx

  • @trix1210 You're earning a ticket to hell with those kind fo arrogant comments!

  • @SKOTP69 You weren't even around when techno and house was coming out in the 70's and 80's in the clubs and it was so new people didn't know what to make of it, so they moved to England. Mr. wanna be from Australia.

  • @djmz1969 I was a child in the 1970's (thank God) and a teenager in the 1980's (thank God!), I'm completely and fully aware of how things went.

I was into the New Wave and Electronic music happening in the late 70's and the turn of the 80's. I was into Hip Hop and Electro as soon as it hit. I was into Synth-Pop, Industrial, and Post-Punk in the mid-80's. I was into the earliest Chicago House and Detroit Techno when it hit in the later 80's. I've gone back and discovered the SPECTRUM of

  • @SKOTP69 Sure...I hope after all that trouble perhaps you are happier. If it makes you feel happier go have a ball.

  • @djmz1969 That there is smug ignorami in the world that need confronting doesn't make me happy! That I know what I do and can talk about it, does! Let's ball!

  • @SKOTP69 Nope, I suggest for your anger and frustrations go talk to a therapist or somebody, someone that cares, may be a rock in the outback. I would just laugh at your misery. Ignorami? Now, you are Italian? I wish you happiness. Bye.

  • @djmz1969 "Anger and frustrations"? At Afro-centric twits that think recycled beats used repeatedly by Blacks is the be-all and end-all, and who deny the MOUNTAIN of White/European influence on all music? Yeah totally valid anger and frustration! Those that deny how music really happened, that smugly stick to their arrogant ignorance need the therapy sessions! You "don't care"? Why'd you make a comment? I'm not Italian. It's harder to be happy nowadays, and don't give me a glib "bye" brush off!

  • @SKOTP69 what an asshole...all deep beats were pioneered by africans and blacks...white people make extremely structural music that is beautiful in its own right...derrick may brings together the best of white and black sensibilities, so stop being so short sighted, its too late in history to be closed minded.

  • @iammagyar We're BEYOND history, and it's far beyond people like you trying to rewrite history now! Most beats, and most deept beats, were NOT pioneered or made by Africans/Blacks! White people have made structural and freeform music for centuries, across the spectrum.

Asians and others have done similar.

Most African music is actually very mundane.

Most "Black" American music is so full of White music/s that it is almost unbelievable.

  • @iammagyar Derrick May is, or was, quite good for a while, but even he was one of the last people to bring together any different sounds, aesthetics, or sensibilities!

    History has already been made.

  • @djmz1969 great music that was happening across those times, and earlier. I KNOW what I'm talking about! I'm a MAJOR music fan, major music head, and major record collector. I'm passionate about things, and have taken the time to learn and know about them.

There was also great pioneering Electronic music happening here in Australia in the 1970's, Whirlywirld, Primitive Calculators, and the original Cybotron!

It's clear you know you're wrong.

    I don't "wannabe" anything.

    I AM !

  • the man is a master!

  • hes gay

  • @MusicAndAmbientGay What do you say he is gay, I thougth he had a wife and kids, not that it'd be a big deal.

  • And he'll get done and tell you how bad ass he just was ;) No shortage of confidence in that guy.

  • Techno Videos.net is a new place to view electronic music videos from around the world! If you use twitter you can even share them on the homepage by adding #technovideos to your tweets

  • It's all too easy for a great dj like Derrick May. It's incredible ;-) Finger up, of course.

  • Does anybody know what DJ mixer that is? I was thinking it is either the Pioneer DJM-3000 or the Allen & Heath Xone:S2...

  • @TheLeetenant If you pause the video at 00:13 you can see it says Allen & Heath 46

  • @pandaemon00 Okay I saw a better view. It is the Xone 464. Nice mixer. I want rotary knobs. I'll probably find a DJM-3000 more affordable tho.

  • he made Strings of Life, hee is just amazing here!

  • scary! lol

  • I should say... I don't mean shit as in it's bad...

    I think it's great.

  • God, I'm new to this shit, I just use my computer to make music, I don't know anything else yet...

I admit to being a newbie... But I'm trying to study.

I need decks... And a midi-compatible electric cello... Anyone willing to give?

    Ha, I'm kidding.

  • Dude, Derrick May is the Godfather of techno! Awesome!!!!!

  • was he not playing them when they were recorded?

  • Fucking amazing....even if he DOES have a bucket of KFC under the decks.

  • @Jboxton thats some racist shit man

  • You ignorant as ever, HE INVENTED TECHNO MUSIC WIHT FRANKIE KNUCLES AND JUAN ATKINS, so ignorant techno music has it's root in African rithyms.......>:(

  • @djmz1969 Frankie Knucles isnt involved in Techno Music Invention Itself. Only Derrick May , Juan Atkins , and later also Carl Craig and some of the UR Crew

  • @unikprod Oh, good to know. I'm not a historian but I like to read the history of music at times. Frankie Knuckles I think was House. (Excuse my spelling in previous messages)

  • @djmz1969 he invented techno...thats a pretty big statement...there's more than just a little evidence to argue against that.

he's an innovator, no doubt...but inventor...come come now.

kraftwerk is years ahead of this man...and YMO...way ahead...

  • @MikeMcGantic That's true KRAFTWERK is pretty advanced but it didn't have the right dance infussion that did these three fellows. Kraftwerk is trully experimental but not danceable. We'll I didn't mean to say he solely did it but together with other artists came up with what we know as techno.

  • @djmz1969 That's right Derrick says that the best way to describe techno would be like Kraftwerk and George Clinton getting stuck in an elevator with a sequencer.

  • @TheLeetenant Best description of techno I ever heard (Probably specifically old 303 + 808+ 909 stuff) was a raspberry being squashed through a tennis racket.

Such a good metaphor when you think about it!

    Luv this stuff...

    :-)

  • @djmz1969

Kevin Saunderson you retard, not Frankie Knuckles

  • @MaTtEaNdReWs1 Oh, wow, you are an Einstein! Bite me!

  • @djmz1969 Hmmmm, not really. Whites/Europeans developed electricity and the technology being used, not to mention the formation of the music styles, from Kraftwerk on. The Japanese elaborated on some of the technology. Most of the rhythms and beats go back to German and British military music.

  • @SKOTP69 Not really, where do you hear a German orchestra with a Waltz in those beats, that's pure Africa whether you like it or not. Europeans are too boring, (sorry grandma) to have a beat.

  • @djmz1969 Interesting that you mention the Waltz, seeing as how the waltz rhythm is evident in much modern (meaning the last 100 years) music. Reggae, which is seen as being "African" music would not exist with the Western Swing that it derives from, and the Waltz music that informed that. If you were to talk to Derrick May, and other such Black Techno artists, they would not be backwards in gushing about the influence of European electronic music, and the classical music that originates in,

  • @djmz1969 be it earlier classical and military music, or 20th century classical. Reggae also derives strong influence from British army marching band music. The Tamla-Motown songwriters borrowed HEAVILY and often from the European classical canon. African music, is often simplistic. Many of the sounds and styles in Africa, "Afro-Beat", themselves are inspired by modern American and European musical styles. Somuch modern music harks back to that Creole connection in New Orleans. Without

  • @djmz1969 White European classical music, Jazz - and it's many offshoots - would NOT exist. If you were to listen to solely African music, the pickings would be slim indeed. Original Hip Hop DJ's such as Afrika Bambaataa played, alongside the regular Funk/R&B/Disco/Soul, lots of Rock, and later German electronic music, and Punk. I could go on an ON with this! You don't think there's German or British military music in Techno and other such styles? Then you should watch and listen to the

  • @djmz1969 Edinburgh Military Tatoo. German oompah music, Irish and English folk music, Country music, Scottish hymns...White/European music has an incredible influence on much of what is called "Black music". Classical music - even when without percussion - often has INCREDIBLE sense of rhythm and movement! Progressive Rock, and particularly German 'Kraut' Rock has such a massive influence on SO much dance music! Like I say, I could just run with this. Afro-centrists have a lot of bad nations

  • @djmz1969 about things, and it riles them beyond belief how much of "their" music is actually White/European in origin. If you think that Europeans are "too boring to have beats", then I suggest you speak to some Black musical artists who'll confirm just how indebted they are too European music, and beats. If you think that Europeans are "too boring", then I also suggest you disconnect from the electricity grid, turn off your computer, and NEVER EVER listen to ANY recorded music...

  • @djmz1969 for this is all only possible to use and do SOLELY because of the genius of White/European men!

  • @djmz1969 Whatever, I drums in a "concrete jungle" not violins in a stuck up concert hall. Don't get too twisted about it. European music has no beat, is music but has no beat.

  • @djmz1969 Many great drummers, including the great Fusion drummer Billy Cobham, learned their chops in marching bands. ALL marching band music comes directly from German and British military music. Much European classical, folk, and popular music down through the years has beats, great beats. It's funny that you're so obsessed with beats (not to say that beats aren't good, they are, but there's so much more!) because in a Mojo magazine interview Cee-Lo Green was crying out for different musics

  • @djmz1969 to be played to younger kids now, so as to "save them from the beat"! Beats are good, and repetition can be great, but there's so much more.

And both the complexities of music, and the beats, more often than not go back to Europe. Classical exists in many forms. So much of the electronics, soundscapes, techniques and beats, that are common in "modern" Dance music go back through White/European avant-garde artists...Brian Eno, Holger Czukay, Terry Riler, Steve Reich, and more.

  • @djmz1969 Much great Disco music was made in Europe. Most post-Rock and Techno/post/Techno music would be IMPOSSIBLE without the metronomic beat of German groups such as NEU! and the cylindrical drumming of CAN. Like I said, go and listen to German/British/European military music. I suggest you start with the Swiss 'Top Secret Drum Corps', there's plenty of footage on Youtube, and then you'll hear BEATS! There's SO much to Music, don't forget!

  • @djmz1969 i would agree, however frankie knuckles was certainly disco-house....derrick may took it to a whole new level with juan and kevin saunderson

  • @djmz1969 I think you'll find it was Kevin Saunderson and not Frankie Knuckles, Frankie Knuckles plays house not techno, he played an important role in the development of house music and he's not from Detroit, he's from New York, next time you think of making a statement like that, think first!

  • @djmz1969 lol frankie knuckles was not involved haha.

  • @djmz1969 juan atkins , derrick may and kevin saunderson are the inventors of techno !

  • jealous huh. bet you would love to be under the decks instead of the KFC sucking his cock instead of earning your chump change in your broke ass dead end job racist cunt

  • I was at DEMF in Detroit last week and Derrick was the last DJ ever at the event and I danced my ass off in front of him at the gate along with Kevin Saunderson came b4 him. It was so awesome. It made my year.

  • The Master!

  • Dont worry, He'll be at the DEMF in Detroit this year, Im already looking forward to it.

  • I stood in the booth with May back in the 90s and he opened my eyes (and ears) to how a mixer is supposed to be used. The guy works for his money- no joke!

After watching him I almost sold all of my records and turntables because I thought, "I'm doing something wrong, there's no way I'll be able to do that!" LOL...

  • Absolute Legend! How i'd love to see Derrick May live!

  • highly recommend to go and see derrick may

  • Saw him last year, simply one of the best there is.

  • the way he rocks the mixer is truly amazing

  • man fuckin Derrick is off his rockker !!, i love it. He tucks one record under his arm and carries on making the other one sound completley different, fuckin mad genious

  • wat kind of Isolator is used here? What mixer? Does anybody know... Europe clubs don't use them often!

  • einer der grossen vorreiter mit robert hood und jeff mills (underground resistance)

  • just awesome!

  • check out the vids from glastonbury this year - when done, let us know if you think he's a joke? the man is awesome.

  • he's not even touching the records, just messin' with the knobs..ppfff..

techno dj's need 2 be more creative cause this is plain borin' also the music sounds really borin' & unoriginal.

back in the days when house/techno started it sounded way better than today's copycattin' nonsense.

  • this is a joke right?

  • HELL NAW, This is not fake ass Young Jeezy or Lil Wayne, This is Real Shit here.....

  • yeah, I know who this guy is. he's one of the god fathers of detriot techno (high tech soul) I was commenting to the guy under my comment. when I said this is a joke right. because he said back in the day techno sounded way better... it doesnt get more back in the day than derrick may

  • FYI: derrick may is a master of at "touching the records" He did that shit years when he was known as mayday. not only can he "touch the records" he can manipulate the box unlike no other; well the exception is probably Jeff Mills. So , its more than just turning knobs. if you can master using you equalizer like an instrument, getting the desired effect, you got my respect. you see alot of dj sets with cats trying to do this and got it all wrong.

  • 31 ottobre halloween 2008 @ turin ITALY movememnt from detroit yeah!

  • This man is a true legend. Without question one of the most important producers & DJs in Electronic Music history.

HUGE respect to May, Atkins, and Saunderson for their part in creating the most exciting cultural phenomenon in centuries.

  • What about Jeff Mills???

  • oh my gosh this is some serious DJing going on here

  • Son, he was one of the belleville three, he fuckin invented it as a dance genre! and tbf Strings of life is a tune! x

  • ugly hater post. the man is a genius, and there was techno made before him, by juan atkins, his friend, a few other, but techno really started with them. strings of life is just beautiful.

  • Rajcunt you're an idiot, Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, aka the Belleville Three, were instrumental in creating techno, they defined that sound. Respect the architects, it's a shame what you said, you're just a fuckin' ign'ant hater for saying that...

  • That was amazing with the train at the start

  • holy crap i didn't even realize it untill i read your comment
