I'm Filipino and I didn't really find this offensive. Maybe it's just the side of me that didn't grow to like my home country that's talking, but I seriously DO think that some (fellow) Filipinos are indeed too sensitive. This kind of comments are also made among us Filipinos as well. It's just that others make much more fuss off of it when it comes from foreign people since they think they show pride or stuff by doing so. It was the same thing with the Claire Danes issue.

The problem with the mail order bride joke is that it fails to recognize that its a form of involuntary prostitution. The "brides" are workers that are lured to a foreign country by some employment agency that isn't regulated by the government, and when the worker gets there for what they thought was a job, the employer takes their passport and other papers and then sells the them to the highest bidder.

I grew up near Daly City, a small suberb town outside of San Francisco where 70% of the population is Filipino so I have lots of freinds from this culture. They will be the first ones to tell you that lots of women in the Filipines want a white america man to rescue them. Then there's the tons of Filipino foreign bride sites. Baldwin just didn't come up with this comment on his own. He's echo'ing a very common stereotype that has some validity.

The problem with the mail order bride joke is that it fails to recognize that its a form of involuntary prostitution. The "brides" are workers that are lured to a foreign country by some employment agency that isn't regulated by the government, and when the worker gets there for what they thought was a job, the employer takes their passport and other papers and then sells the them to the highest bidder.

I grew up near Daly City, a small suberb town outside of San Francisco where 70% of the population is Filipino so I have lots of freinds from this culture. They will be the first ones to tell you that lots of women in the Filipines want a white america man to rescue them. Then there's the tons of Filipino foreign bride sites. If they have decent jobs for everyone Filipinos wont resort to this. Ironically, western men do prefer pinays. Americans married to Pinays are the envy of every other men. Pinays have the best of all worlds, they are: Asian, yet also Pacific islanders, with a dash of white Spanish, black Aborigine, a little bit of Japanese, Chinese, British, Dutch with Christianity and Islam for a religion and American and Spanish for a heritage and every Pinay speaks or at least understands English and is definitely educated. She love to sing and dance and always puts their husbands and family on a pedestal. What other woman is comparable

Look, as I've said: every OTHER men...u obviously are part of the every other, and what do you mean by UNJUSTIFIED? Do you even know the meaning of the word or its usage? Didn't I just describe the make up of Filipinos in general? It is their heritage historically and genetically. You however made the BLANKET statement that pinays are what I like. Alec made a funny comment regarding Filipina and mind you he also said Russian mail order brides to which, I dont see any Russians up in arms about it. You are no better than the hypocritical politicians in the Philippines who err about trivial things like this but does very little to improve the country.

@kushisol you are entitled to your opinion, however, what I am pointing out is that, this is a very minor slight to the Philippines or Filipinos compared to what the country's government is doing (or not doing for) its people. Why do Filipinos put so much effort into condemning Alec when its country is plundered by its govt for what, each politician steals at least $5million and how many gov't officials and politicians are there each stealing so much...why? spend ur time asking those questions.

Did you just mean that because the Philippines has corrupt politicians, it gives everybody the right to attack Filipinas? You are beside the point and are trying to evade the topic. The topic here is that Mr. Baldwin is disrespectful and insensitive to the Filipinas and Women as a whole. He should have said Mail Order Brides, period, without adding the word Filipina in his sentence.

What I am saying is that what Mr. Baldwin said is offensive and insulting to the Filipino women. Don't you think, as a Filipina, myself, I have the right to react with what he said? What I am saying and it is not defending him or his comment but rationalizing it, is that; it was not again meant to attack Filipinas or anyone, it was a simple knee jerk funny reaction to which I see you and many others do not think it was funny, so leave it at that. So you were insulted and he later apologized now do we continue to demonized Mr. Balwin or should we cancel our freedom to expression ?

What if, for example, somebody just said that the women in your country are all Bitches, wouldn't you react? I know, you know this is not 100% true, but if someone stupid just assumed that this is the truth, wouldn't you defend the women in your place? @kushisol If I were in his shoes I would probably have referred to the Russians as the mail order bride, and I would have heard Russians comment the same but less because many of them know what is funny and what is a national insult. Many Americans will laugh if you declare that American women are bitches: because it is funny and ridiculous. Even if you call my female relatives bitches I would laugh if it said as a joke because I know they are not.

And where did you get your statistics regarding how much they stole from the country? Are you part of their schemes? I guess you are just making all this up. Western men fantasizes about subservient women who does not talk back to them as many Asian women are...Filipinas are different, they are Asian but are also Islanders who will tell you how it is like a Samoan woman does. Add a little dash of Latin in there, and you got yourself a hot, exotic, chick that will not only be your wife but also your best friend! :)
