All of this would never have happened had that moron mechanic screwed the windscreen in properly. If that captain had died, the machanic would have been charge with negligence and manslaughter due to his incompetence.
And all this is down to an idiot who couldn't be bothered to follow the recommended instructions to fit the new window with the right screws when the plane was in the shop about 24 hours before. Not only did he nearly kill the pilot, everyone on board, the Co-Pilot was so traumatised he left the job. Also, Southampton Airport ends on the M27 - bloody close thing.

Amazing how the camerman got all this on film. Also, a bit bad quality video, but I guess that's b/c of the hole in the window. How did the window cleaning man stay on the plane when it took off?
@basherofnoggins I know!!:) Mr Cheif Steward - John Heward! :) In another one there was a steward called Miss Shelly Kelly! This is one of the most amazing air disasters!
I was on a BA1-11 British Island Airways flight from Sardinia to Gatwick 0n night of 17th Oct 1988. In turbulance and At 44,000ft we had a cabin depresurisation had to go on oxygen had to make a rapid dissent. Never told cause of problem. Has anybody got any info of know where I can find out details please. Thanks Trav
Aviation accidents are extremely rare, with the probability of a passenger being killed on a single flight at approximately eight million-to-one. If a passenger boarded a flight at random, once a day, everyday, it would statistically be over 21,000 years before he or she would be killed.
@TX169 Yeah, I know someone who worked for United Airlines as a mechanic for over 37 years, and basically says the same thing! Also, people survive plane crashes. It's the smoke, and fire that's usually the killer. Pay attention to where you're sitting on the plane, and all exits (count the row as your enter the plane), it's handy to know in the dark!
you should be more scared or driving because statistically air travel is the safest. at least pilot have psychological tests, regular health checks and the hours between flights is monitored so they have enough rest, further reducing errors PLUS they have assistance compared to monkeys who can get their drivers license. no matter how many of these episode i see i will always choose planes over cars.
Your answer is only based on a technicality...Air travel is only based 'statistically' on the volume of people moved per flight. You have 1 jet, It moves 200 some odd people, per trip. Verses a Vehicle which moves, say, 5 people per trip. Which is statistically more effecient? Of course, I personally don't prefer trusting my life into others hands. If I die at the wheel of a car, which I am in control of, It's my own fault. I am a very good driver and prefer this method of travel.
Oh, but many times the car accident comes not by your fault but by an other driver's fault, and you are in such a situation that you can not do much. What if a trucker who fell sleep or is drunk and the truck comes towards your car...
At first I agree with you, but I recently read an opinion of a person who said that this statistic doesn't count for the following reason. If you travel say 20 times in your life by plane, and thousand times by car, taxi, or bus (you come and go at work every day) then statistically you can be killed on car. But what if you travel by plane twice a day (say your work lies at a town nearby). Then the possibilities are nearly the same, he said :-(
@collinsl02 Actually no. According to this, he had just unbuckled himself to get comfy and take his tea when the window blew out. Unless I wasn't watching this right...
