I guess he's not actually using high E and B strings for high notes. If my ears are right, he's making a "hendrix grip" (thumb over lower E string) and thumbing down F# and fingering higher notes with index finger on D and G strings in second fret...That way you can keep timing "groovy" also as you have to make a swing type motion for hitting octave F# on D string 4th fret with ring finger.

1) Thumb on low e string second fret

2) Middle finger on 4th fret d string

3) Index finger on 3rd fret g string

4) Ring finger 5th fret b string

5) Little finger on high e

Basically ur just holding that shape and playing the exact same notes in the video, except its easier because ur fingers don't have to keep switchin position. It can be a bit of a stretch if u have small hands though. (BTW it's also the same chord type used at start of purple haze)
