Reminds me of a Kunai. I like how it's so thin and specifically to help draw a gun magazine, but have a blade in hand. I have yet to see a reviewer mount it on an LBV, plate carrier, or even drop leg and draw this from from there as intended/implied.
I like the knife, but I don't really get why the designer didn't want to have the sides sharpened. I think its an over reaction saying that its use is just for thrusting. A knife is a tool, whether dagger or not I believe a knife should have sharpened sides for cutting. Sharpening the sides would actually increases the piercing capability of the knife. I think the designer just wanted to design something different, just making himself believe its better that way for his way of fighting.
I've had my SOCP for a while now and I've got to mention this. It feels very awkward to draw concealed from a boot. Even with wearing it and practice drawing it.It's designed as a neck knife first. The clip does function well on certain pockets however.
Greg designed this blade, period. Greg is a solid individual!!! He has dedicated a great deal of time to improving the lethality of the United States SOF community and I count myself lucky to have worked with him.
The blades thin design makes finding space on your kit easy, every combat vet knows there's only so much space on your body armor and it fills up quick. The ring on the end of the blade enables you to grab and use other things without putting the blade down i.e. pistol or rifle.
This knife was designed by the people at SPARTAN BLADES. Greg Thompson did not have the expertise to design this himself but did come up with the idea. This is a rip off of the origanal by SPARTAN BLADES!
@WeAllJuggleKnives Apparently he came up with enough of the idea that he owns it. Both companies make it, he liscensed both. BM apparentlly can produce more of them and cheaper( much cheaper thanks to to do using 440C) therefore more troops will be able to afford them(indeed some in some places are issued them) So thats why from what I understand. and personally I like the BM one better, since for what it is you dont need one of the "wonder steels", also the clip/sheath.
@DEVILD1111 That is a total lie!!!!!! SPARTAN is not the creator of this knife. Greg specifically developed this knife for Specail Operations Operators!!!! I know Greg personally and he is a honorable man who was screwed by SPARTAN. Fortunately Greg has found BENCHAMADE to do the right thing!!!!!
@JPMorgan4277 No not at all. Spartan is not as big as Benchmade yet, but did develop the design with Greg. He must have been looking for a quick buck from Benchmade. They are lucky Spartan doesn't sue them both!
@JPMorgan4277 No not at all. Spartan is not as big as Benchmade yet, but did develop the design with Greg. He must have been looking for a quick buck from Benchmade. They are lucky Spartan doesn't sue them both! This won't happen becouse the people at SPARTAN are the honerable ones and by the way both owners are 20 year vets and both one time Special Forces Operators.
Spartan Blades has the same one by the guy that built this one in 154cm but it goes for like 140 or something where as this being 440 at a lower price of what some people saying 70 bucks
@Wealljuggleknives Haha! Cold Steel makes great knives, but you don't want only one brand of knives. So, when you want a style of knife and you can't find it but really want it, you'll go CS because you know you're getting a great knife.
@NitroAnon - There is the Cold Steel Spike series of knives, they all have very slim handles like this, but are a bit longer, I like the Scimitar Spike model.
Great vid buddy, I think it is a very cool design but still firmly go by using a design that allows a firm, full fighting grip during the draw - same as with a pistol.
@dannysees - Thanks. I'll admit, I don't use knives with slim handles myself. But I guess he wanted to make a knife that could be carried if I couldn't carry something bulkier.
Sensei look at where the grind on the cross section stops and how elongated the tip is. That must peirce through all types of military body armour surgically. It's a killing machine
This strikes me as a reinvention of the Fairbairn-Sykes dagger of WWII fame. It seems everytime a time a nation gets involved in a long war they eventually rediscover the benefits of a stabbing blade.
That knife is wicked. I only use folders in reverse grip (edge in) though. With a fixed blade no lock to compromise. Prefer sabre grip in fixed, need reach brother. That blade grip looks weak in sabre.
I like this, but unfortunately due to local laws I can't carry a fix blade of any size. I just carry my S&W aluminum pen...better than nothing I suppose. Thanks for the review!
Daggers aren't illegal here in Vancouver Canada, I have many. Only push daggers aren't allowed. Aside from the ring feature, the SOCP isn't much different from a regular dagger, so it'd be pretty dumb if customs takes this but lets me buy other daggers.
Just guessing though. I still don't know whether this is legal or not. I might order one just to find out.
Great video man and really interesting. One thing I dig about your channel is the story telling/lessons learned portions. You always give examples of what the knife/weapon can be used for ie: This dagger is great for situations where you can be taken hostage.Very colorful and thought provoking. Thanks for such a unique and imformative channel.
@dom46475 - I'm not sure what Canada's knife laws are. Can buy it at any store selling Benchmade, I got it at the knifeworks website. Uses are only limited by imagination, I suppose it could open a can if it had to, or spear some fish.
@WeAllJuggleKnives LOL that's some nostalgic games bro, i remember playing it all the time at school's comp lab! those were good days.... (ish, now that the modern gaming is ....cooler) lol
Is there a legal reason to keep a false edge on the back? I've heard that double edge knives are illegal in some states. In my country, they are. Good review as always! :)
Great reveiw Israel! i like the design, mutli-holds, lightweight and deadly. I have no issue with the 440c steel, like anything as long as the HT has been done properly, it will last, not break, resist rust and retain an edge. Thank you for the heads up on this bit of kit, best wishes and take care
why is it only sharpened half the way? any good reason not to have the whole thing sharp besides slipping (which is taken care of by the ring i guess)?
@kataklystik - I think he just wanted to keep things simple, make it a specialized stabber. The first design was probably just a spike with no sharpening.
Good review. I'll be honest, I'm not too crazy about the design, I don't trust dagger style knives that don't have good crossguards to protect accidental slippage up on the blade. I know the karambit style hole is meant for a better grip, but I'd like a crossguard much better.
Like the Cold Steel Counter Tac 1. It has good crossguards that prevent you slipping on the blade. It would be even better if the crossguards pointed towards the handle, which would take a lot of drag of a thrust motion.
Very cool design. reminds me of the BM 175 push dagger - yet another knife prohibited in Canada. Interested in adopting a Canadian? LOL, Great Review!
I like the design but hate the steel. 440c I think could break fairly easily based on what this is designed to do. This would have been so much cooler in a tougher steel. Good review!
Excellent review man. These look very interesting. I really like the ring on it that is the only way I would feel comfortable using it in reverse grip.
