Died too young. Somehow people connect the Rolling Stones with Mick Taylor and even more Ronnie Wood so much. But Brian Jones never was allowed remain with the Rolling Stones long enough and lived long enough to do the late 1969 at MSG Concert and 1970s through the Early 1980s Arena-Stadium Rock Tours. Somehow life is so unfair when a Founder of a Legendary Group does not live long enough to see the best days ahead for that Group.
What a wonderful tribute film for Brian, and the music is so apt. Please check my channel as I have a four part Documentary called, Brian Jones - who killed the ROLLING STONE
Really dig this muse. RIP Brian Jones< founder of the Rolling Stones, & thank you! The rest of the band ought to do the same, 'cause you were just a door mat to them. Now that's the truth & nothing but!
Very little alcohol was found in his bloodstream, but he was not in the best of health for a young man. He may struggled and panicked and went down. And now he is at peace.
Actually I side with ABKCO. Until Youtube buckles down and starts paying the copyright owners for the material we are unloading, I see no reason why the owners of the work should be ripped off just because it is the Internet.
@cracks21229 LOL, I agree with you but in the particular case of the bastard of Allen Klein (rot in hell you bastard) and ABKCO; Klein STOLE the rights from the Stones and many others and they DO NOT OWN the copyright here, they think that anything with the words "Rolling Stones" is theirs and no, they do not own everything, only the stuff the illegally stole from them, some teenagers trusting in his good will, but no, Allen Klein defined himself as a thief and as a bastard, read about him
@gliedo No doubt Klein hoodwinked our boys. But a deal is a deal, unless proven to be illegal, and I think the Stones lost that one in court. I would guess that Mick and Keith still get royalties as songwriters on the ABKCO stuff. I could be wrong on that as I am sure Klein covered as many bases as he could. The sad thing is that I think Klein got his hooks into the Beatles too, or at least some of them.
@MissPoitier If you're talking about my interview with Donovan and his wife Linda go to Rocks Off and then enter into the message board and find it on the Brian thread, unfortunatelly I cannot post a link directly, other option is contact me in private
@lobosatter Yes, it's in Cheltenham, England contact me in private, I have cool pictures of his grave in both, summer and winter (with snow) taken last JUly and last month (January 2010)
How bad is that Keith refused to attend because of what happened with him Brian and Anita Pallenberg, the girl Keith stole from Brian.Mick and Marriane Faithfull did not come because they legally hadto be somewhere but at least they sent flowers.Keith did zilch.Charlie and Bill were the only ones who attended.
Plse show me the source of those comments. Not heresay.
Also your comment about one note placed in a song arrangement being worth more than a virtuoso multi-note express may be right on rare occasion, but it is not the rule. In fact, perhaps you could point out a few examples where Brian Jones one or two note virtuoso performances were a key ingredient to an early Stones song. Much of the Brian Jones mystique has been built up over the past 40 years. I just don't see it.
By the way, I met Keith back in the late 80's on a New Year's eve party in Chelsea. He was a very nice guy. I wrapped with him for about 5-10 minutes. he even offered to have me join him with his girlfriend to an after hours club, but I took a pass. I was tempted to bring up the old stones stuff with him, but I am sure he would have had very little interest in going into that with a complete stranger. He looked rough back then - 20 yrs ago. I can't believe he is still alive!!!
Hendrix's admiration and respect for Jones is widely documented as is the mutual respect between Jones and Dylan... i really can't be bothered to spend the time digging up references for you. As for examples...The slide work on both Little Red Rooster and No expectations is enough proof for me. Sure the myths and mystique probablly don't match the truth, when do they ever... i think your being a bit harsh on Mr Jones.
OF course you are too busy to prove your point. Well then, how about just one well documented source? It is clear you have a serious bias in this discussion since you are the one calling him "Mr" Jones. He was kid who never lived to 30.
Laura Jackson (1992), Golden Stone: The Untold Life and Tragic Death of Brian Jones Is the latest Stones related book i am reading but this is info that is repeated many times over.I don't recall names of authors or books and am still in some disbelief that I'm even bothered to get into this debate. I'm no defender of Brian Jones, he was not a saint by any measure and there are no doubt better musicians.
On the subject of age, its a number and experience counts for much more. I know wise 19 year olds and infants in their 50's; your comment reeks of ageism.
Anyone who was around back then is at least in their 50"s now. Mick and Keith are pushing 70. What are you 20, and you profess to be an expert on the British R&R scene from the 60's. Come on. Your comment reeks of naivety.
Now quite avoiding the issue. Just give me an example instead of changing the topic.
You brought up age into your argument, and your last comment is full of assumptions, including my age. I never claimed to be an expert and am board completely with this argument and will not be responding any further, have a great day, Peace
I wish I could get excited about Brian Jones. Despite all of his so called talent, it can be argued very easily that he was just brit imitating his love of American blues. He basically played rythym guitar like millions of other guys between 12-30 and had the ability to pick up other instruments and play them on a basic level.
The rest is just teeny bopper hype from the 60's and the nostalgia created around the popularity of the Stones as bad boys of the 60's.
The primary reason for all of the infighting within the Stones was that Jones wanted the group to stick with their american R&B roots, while Keith and Mick were moving on to more progressive rock, including the psychedelic rock of the late 60's which everyone moved toward following the release of the Sgt Pepper album.
Just look at the stones album cover for Her Satanic Majesty. In fact, the album was one of the Stones worst received albums due to their clear attempted aping of the Beatles.
1) You are right. rikstar23 took the position that Jones was a genius . I mistakenly mixed you in with him since you jumped on and took issue with my comments.
2) I am not totally dismissing Jones. He is the primary reason that the Stones came into being which eventually launched the occasional great song from the Jagger/Richard songwriting partnership.
My issue is with people who believe that Brian Jones was this amazing artist who was the great creative force behind the Stones.
Sure! I have this theory since he said that Frank conffesed he did. Tom of course was at the scene and he stole a lot of things and destroyed a lot of written stuff

Yeah, ABKCO and all of the other greedy scumbags are full of avarice ... I'm going to upload a great interview Phil Hendrie has with a lawyer fighting to defeat this evil perpetrated on us!
It's true that ABKCO is ice cold, but the 'consolation' score that you added to this tribute to the 'original Stone', is indescribably beautiful, and quite compatible with the compilation.... flowerz to ya...
will there be doing anything next year as a tribute to Brain as it's the 40th year since his death coming up will be any concerts in tribute to man that created the Rolling Stones?
So sorry but ABKCO deleted the original background music, you know, poor Allen Klein is deperately trying to get more money deleting the work of others. Burn in hell you thief!
Fucking Allen Klein! what a fuckwit. i mean seriously what the fuck was mick thinking hiring that fat slob. I thought he would be dead by now. But of course only the good die young. R.I.P. Brian. this music is so wrong on this tribute. It is like an insult to Brian and the Stones. peace.
Thanks Carol, I really appreciate your comment and it means a lot to me. As you can see Don is there with Brian and two of the pics of Brian were given to me by Julian.
Brian Jones: I true rock icon of the 60s. He had a greater influence than all the other stones, and he was taken from this world too soon. R.I.P. Brian Jones. 1942-1969
Sad, sad, they were jealous of his talent I know it. Too bad he didn't straighten up and get stronger. Some people just can't handle drugs. Keith could but that's all he'll be remembered for and it's quite sad. At least BRIAN JONES is remembered for being a true musician and not some popular junkie. If you're a true musician stay to your roots don't let some f'n half azz musicians take your gift away like the stones did and claimed it their own. They took over his band.
It was known that Brian's relationship with the builder, Frank Thorogood, had gradually turned bad.
Thorogood was the only one actually present when Brian 'drowned'. He also admitted to the murder on his deathbed (although only one person witnessed the confession).
So that's why some people have speculated that he was murdered.
i have proof that the man who was remodeling brian's house killed him. it's everywhere, not only i have it. i've read in several places, and have interviews on tape stating that the man, frank thorogood said,"i did brian" while he was on his death bed. the person who frank told knew what he was saying, and also, frank didn't kill brian alone. i have an interview of the man who helped frank on tape. he wouldn't tell anyone his name. he went by,"mr.x." rip brian
My interest in the Rolling Stones sorely faded after Brian Jone's death. Even given the ability of the Jagger/Richard's songwriting talent, the whole sound became rather redundant after Jone's influence was gone. Jones was the music, everything else simply backup. Thank you for posting this tribute. Kind of a haunting thing to die on the AA Milne estate, I always thought. Hard to look at Winnie the Pooh in the same way.
Great tribute gliedo, thank you. It saddens me to see some fools still in denial about the shady circumstances of his death (murder) and how they uphold what the media wanted them yo believe. Back then it was easy, smalll town, big bucks at stake, the publicity guy wanted everything to be cool for the Rolling Stones' next tour.
I say negligible amount of alcohol, it was the equivalent of 3.5 pints of beer. That may be enough to effect a lightweight, but Mr Jones was a seasoned drinker. They also used the fact that his liver was fatty and enlarged to explain away his death, completely ridiculous unless he was very mal-nourished.
It baffles me how the authorities had him in the ground and the whole thing wrapped up almost the same week he died. The basic facts that he had no drugs in his blood, no sign of physical injury and a negligible amount of alcohol. Then we have the inconsistencies in statements given- if there wasn't foul play, then why would people lie?
Brian, oh Brian, where are you?, this is a beautiful hommage, thank you oh so much for it, us admirers of Brian are grateful indeed, is good to see him happy, in good spirits and fun, we all miss him, we all love him, I wish he had lived long enough, I wish I could change the loneliness and isolation of his final days, love to all¡¡¡
I looked through all the comments and noticed no one made a comment about the fact that Mick and Keith didn't attend Brians' funeral. Note that you only see Bill and Charlie. I've never heard the reason why Mick and Keith didn't go. I've heard they were in the studio that day.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that Mick & Keith did not go because they had other contractual commitments (Mick might have been filming Ned Kelly?). However, I think it more likely that they feared a backlash from fans.
Thanks for giving me that tip. I never knew you could do that. I guess the house they showed and the swimming pool was where he died. There had been a deathbed confession. He had workers at the house and they more or less moved in -- never understood that. The head man drowned Brian Jones. It just seemed people couldn't stand him. John Lennon said, "He was the type of guy that you'd wish to Christ wouldn't get on the phone. There was all this pain." kc440
The Rolling Stones stopped "rolling" after Brian died (post "Let it Bleed") - Like Syd Barrett, he was just too fragile to handle the pressure. But IMHO the band was never the same (or as good) after his demise...
The Rolling Stones stopped "rolling" after Brian died (post "Let it Bleed") - Like Syd Barrett, he was just too fragile to handle the pressure. But IMHO the band was never the same (or as good) after his demise...
Brian was the strongest musician in the group. He had alot of personal problems, though; and that's why the group couldn't let him be the leader.
With him, they were a truly great blues guitar band, as well as being a very versatile pop group. He was onto the diversity of instrumentation trip with Brian Wilson, Donovan, etc... and the Stones really have never been as good as before he left.
Brian was ripped off, plain and simple,i've been there, people will fuck you up as soon as you give them the oppurtunity, they will steal your dreams, your money, your girlfriend, and then your life...I don't know why, jealousy maybe?
No disrespect to Brian's memory, but actually the Stones were reborn better than ever with Mick Taylor, in Brian's wake. Treated Him? He could actually be quite brutal and cruel at times--just ask Anita Pallenberg who was knocked unconcious by him. The Stones tired of this, and his growing unreliability. It's the sad, stoned puppy that people remember, but they don't quite have the full picture of him.
This guy was one of a kind man great inspiration to any musician out there with the 15 instruments and different styles of playing. Its a shame that his life was cut short.

Let's see:
- Xylophone in Under My Thumb was simple and repetitive.
- Sitar in Paint it Black was all of 12 (count them) notes played repeatedly.
- NO guitar leads in any song worth mentioning.
-Couldn't sing worth anything - same with Keith.
On the plus side: Great dresser and great hair.
You do the math....

One note placed beautifully in an song arrangement is worth more than virtuoso multi- note express train speed playing...
The fact that both Hendrix and Dylan had huge respect for Jones as a musician speaks volumes...

By the way, Dylan paid for Brian Jones casket at his funeral.
That doesn't mean that he thought he was a great talent, just that he liked him as a person, or at least felt sympathy for him.
And Brian Jones introduced Hendrix at Monterey in 1967. That doesn't mean that he thought he was a great talent either. They were simply his friends.

Truly BRIAN JONES was the inspiration behind the STONES direction before his departure.

I admire keith's talent, but the majority of people remember his drug use, rather than how creative he was.

Brian Jones: I true rock icon of the 60s. He had a greater influence than all the other stones, and he was taken from this world too soon. R.I.P. Brian Jones. 1942-1969
TheDoorsFan1232 4 years ago 8
Sad, sad, they were jealous of his talent I know it. Too bad he didn't straighten up and get stronger. Some people just can't handle drugs. Keith could but that's all he'll be remembered for and it's quite sad. At least BRIAN JONES is remembered for being a true musician and not some popular junkie. If you're a true musician stay to your roots don't let some f'n half azz musicians take your gift away like the stones did and claimed it their own. They took over his band.
It set in on him.

intoto2007:
It was known that Brian's relationship with the builder, Frank Thorogood, had gradually turned bad.
Thorogood was the only one actually present when Brian 'drowned'. He also admitted to the murder on his deathbed (although only one person witnessed the confession).
So that's why some people have speculated that he was murdered.
Edward234 4 years ago 5
Frank Thorogood is in this video @ 2.10 and 2.16.

i have proof that the man who was remodeling brian's house killed him. it's everywhere, not only i have it. i've read in several places, and have interviews on tape stating that the man, frank thorogood said,"i did brian" while he was on his death bed. the person who frank told knew what he was saying, and also, frank didn't kill brian alone. i have an interview of the man who helped frank on tape. he wouldn't tell anyone his name. he went by,"mr.x." rip brian

Wait a minute! did not Brian drown on his pool? why they r talking about murder???

My interest in the Rolling Stones sorely faded after Brian Jone's death. Even given the ability of the Jagger/Richard's songwriting talent, the whole sound became rather redundant after Jone's influence was gone. Jones was the music, everything else simply backup. Thank you for posting this tribute. Kind of a haunting thing to die on the AA Milne estate, I always thought. Hard to look at Winnie the Pooh in the same way.
Thanks again.

Great tribute gliedo, thank you. It saddens me to see some fools still in denial about the shady circumstances of his death (murder) and how they uphold what the media wanted them yo believe. Back then it was easy, smalll town, big bucks at stake, the publicity guy wanted everything to be cool for the Rolling Stones' next tour.
asarapi 4 years ago
I say negligible amount of alcohol, it was the equivalent of 3.5 pints of beer. That may be enough to effect a lightweight, but Mr Jones was a seasoned drinker. They also used the fact that his liver was fatty and enlarged to explain away his death, completely ridiculous unless he was very mal-nourished.
surfer919193 4 years ago
It baffles me how the authorities had him in the ground and the whole thing wrapped up almost the same week he died. The basic facts that he had no drugs in his blood, no sign of physical injury and a negligible amount of alcohol. Then we have the inconsistencies in statements given- if there wasn't foul play, then why would people lie?
surfer919193 4 years ago

MattHatter 4 years ago
I seem to recall reading somewhere that Mick & Keith did not go because they had other contractual commitments (Mick might have been filming Ned Kelly?). However, I think it more likely that they feared a backlash from fans.
adadof3 4 years ago
Yeah, the idea fans would be standing there thinking, "you guys are the jerks that threw him out of the band...now look what's happened!"

Anyone know the cemetry where Brians buried?
Ladybird5352 5 years ago
Brian was the strongest musician in the group. He had alot of personal problems, though; and that's why the group couldn't let him be the leader.
With him, they were a truly great blues guitar band, as well as being a very versatile pop group. He was onto the diversity of instrumentation trip with Brian Wilson, Donovan, etc... and the Stones really have never been as good as before he left.
fistofate 5 years ago 2
Brian was ripped off, plain and simple,i've been there, people will fuck you up as soon as you give them the oppurtunity, they will steal your dreams, your money, your girlfriend, and then your life...I don't know why, jealousy maybe?
DiamondDave42 5 years ago
No disrespect to Brian's memory, but actually the Stones were reborn better than ever with Mick Taylor, in Brian's wake. Treated Him? He could actually be quite brutal and cruel at times--just ask Anita Pallenberg who was knocked unconcious by him. The Stones tired of this, and his growing unreliability. It's the sad, stoned puppy that people remember, but they don't quite have the full picture of him.
