  • I love how stupid ass ford calls it ecoboost, like it's something they just invented. it's just a turbocharger and it doesn't have ford's dip shit signature on it.

  • wow, looks like what EVERY Turbo does on EVERY car fitted with one THROUGHOUT HISTORY

  • ingenious

  • blame @AutoblogGreen... i dont think this animation is even from ford... most likely a retitled pos

  • Dumbest animation ever, it has nothing to do with ford. Its a typical turbo setup

  • Woww revolution !!?? Its not revolution what the fuck !!

  • Turbos dont ALWAYS mean better fuel economy. Turbos ALWAYS mean more efficient because they burn all of the fuel going into an engine. But turbo means more revs and therefore more air going into the engine, and to compensate more fuel. So the car is actually drinking more fuel with a turbo, but is more efficient because it helps burn all the fuel going into an engine. .^. Turbos= more efficent, more fuel burnt.

  • @hemustbefishing WRONG

turbos dont increase your fuel consumption. your heavy foot does.

turbos on stock fuel systems increase mpg if you keep steady foot.

  • the americans at ford's motor development headquarters finally found out how turbos work and called it eco boost when they figured turbos give better mileage, seriously...

  • I have a question... With the compression and cooling of air, it becomes slightly more dense then the atmospheric air. Once this "denser" air enters the cylinder, your regular air to fuel ratio is no longer valid. If you compress and allow the air to become more dense, would it then not have more oxygen molecules for square inch? In order to fully ignite those extra oxygen molecules would you not need for fuel injected into the engine as well?... Consequently not being fuel efficient?

  • All of the fuel is not burned, there is unburnt fuel exiting the car via exhaust. Turbocharging along with direct injection, higher operating temps, better fuel injectors, better fuel atomization, better controls, etc add to the improved fuel economy. If less unburnt fuel goes out the exhaust pipe you get better fuel economy. You get 3 things from turbos: 1. fuel economy 2. emissions 3. power density.Design dictates which 1 wins.Think better fuel economy for a certain emissions and power specs.

  • A good point. That's why a turbocharged car has different programming. A turbocharged car is programed to change it's fuel delivery with boost. This is why you can't just slap a turbo on an engine and call it good.

  • @blackbeltbib yes you can. you guys are all morons. anything above 5-6psi needs more fuel.

  • @LiLBoy1221 no, more air just means bigger fire. say your stock fuel ratio is 1 part fuel to 2 parts oxygen. that 1 part of fuel only needs 1 part of oxygen to combust, but your engine adds 2 parts to be more efficient. so now if you doubled that to 4 parts oxygen or a 1:4 ratio of fuel to air it will be 2x as efficient. but then you get to a point were theres too much oxygen and the fuel burns to fast, so you increase fuel....and thats the balancing act of psi and higer fuel amounts.

  • Wow... looks like a pretty standard turbo setup to me, but the DI will be a nice addition.

  • im new at this..can some1 PLS tell me which is the compressor n which is the turbine..(blue or red)?? thanks in advance

  • @kuha5ster blue compressor, red turbine

  • These engine's are going to do alot of good for Ford. Finally the Mustang gets a competitive base engine. The old 4.0L V6 was great in its heyday but told old to compare to new V6's offered by GM and Dodge. Personally I would like to see a 3.5L 250 to 300hp V6 Ecoboost go into a new generation of Ranger Pickup Trucks.

  • So, Whats the difference between a regular turbocharger and FORD "Ecoboost"?

  • @GANZOP direct injection.

  • @MrJustice01 by the way, direct injection was first used on the new Camaro before it even got to ford. this is how the v-8 camaro is finally able to pass emissions in cali. its a cool idea too.

  • @Foxy300ZX i want to say direct injection is a bosch set up. want to think VW or other german make was first to use it now 3-4 years ago

  • @socalltd really?? thats cool. I guess i jumped into concluding it was for the camaro, cause that was the first time hearing of direct injection and on the discovery they made it seem as though chevy thought of it.

good to know. I just couldnt see an american company thinking up of such a cool idea.

  • @Foxy300ZX as a former GM employee, i know since '08, the CTS is using DI for its 3.6 v6. thats the same v6 in the camaro.

i hope this will be as good as the trusted 3.8 ohv v6 GM had since '75. -only worked for GM from 2006-2008, i worked for VW previous from 2000-2004

  • @socalltd

You worked for VW... Im so sorry.

  • @GANZOP

nothing... its exactly the same damn thing. Stupid ford finally decided to make a bad ass engine and threw it on a poor man's car, making it too expensive for the poor man do buy? what the hell does that leave, no one is going to buy it.

ps- i dont mean to be rude to you, i just get pissed when i heard people say "ecoBoost". There is no way around it, its the same thing.

  • its not the same thing. mechanical fuel pump DI

  • im askin myself the same question

  • Direct injection twin turbo

  • The animation is SO crappy, this isn't even depicted as a 4 stroke engine at all. Apparently it also has no valves. lol. Garbage, please tell me Ford made this, it would explain how they just stole the developed tech from GM SIDI program and threw it on a V6.

  • @Nettikturbo it shows what the turbocharger does...what else did you expect? exhaust turns the turbine, compressor sucks in fresh air, air fuel mix goes into cylinder, and the process starts over again. In fact its so simple and basic that its the perfect way for people who dont know the mechanics behind a turbocharger, to know how the one in their Ford works.

  • Worst animation. Period.

  • so? whats so special about this? thats how all turbo's work

  • haha i know huh! i was expecting some amazing breakthrough or SOMETHING different!

  • lmao!

  • Very good to understand this way.I am a starter.

  • cool.... ecoboost... is this fords attempt to rename the turbocharger.... ford is reatarted?

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, now go cry about it.

  • lol :D

  • Tee hee :3

  • Garbage, garbage, garbage.

  • Troll, troll, spam. Good job on your comment, now go run along and make out with your crappy jap car like a good boy.

  • NO SHIT. You don't know what you are talking about. GARBAGE, GARBAGE, GARBAGE. Go make out with your crappy American car like a bad girl. You are not a men.

  • Wow you must be like 12, your almost a woman! And of course I am not 'men', how the hell could I be plural? That's just downright silly!

  • WOW you are a 2 year old little baby girl. Yea you are not a men. You don't know how to be plural. You are a downright stupid dumb ignorant fool.

  • lol, you are just too entertaining! xD I must be one gifted 2yr old girl, I can type and construct complete sentences! I can teach you if you want to learn how not to type like a retard, seems like you might need some lessons. Haha!

  • You don't know how type, and you never went a day in your life to school. Of course you are a 2 year old girl than cannot type and construct complete sentences. I'll tell you what. Shut your fucking trap you punk ass bitch ass mother fucker. You cant learn cause you type like a retard cause you are one. That's why you love ecoboost.

  • I'll tell you what. Go ahead and brag about ecoboost in the shower with your guys.

  • Only if you come in the shower with me you sexy beast <3

  • You go first. I'm not listening to you.

  • You sir, are no fun! I guess thats why you like your foreign cars... nooo fun!

  • Well, GOOD!!!! you are no fun either. Nooooo Fun, that's why you like American cars.

  • Well Good!!!!

  • Well Good!!!!

  • Fine Then!!! Be that way!

  • OK!!! I'm happy to be that way.

  • da jap crs r so mch bttr den dem amricn crs. dey gu fstr nd r lghtr den dem poc amricn crs dat way 4000+ lbs. LIKE OMGOSH!!!!!

  • NOT... YOU PUNK ASS PUSSY!!! GO RAPE YOUR BARBIES AND FUCK YOUR RICE. IT REQUIRES MORE TORQUE TO REMOVE MY LUG NUTS THAN YOUR RICE BURNER PRODUCESs

  • this turbo engine is for gasoline? I read an articule in order that but it was not very complete an' success.

  • The whole point of this type of technology was to allow indirect compression of intake gases using exhaust, but without the troubles of a supercharger. Since a supercharger is both draining to the engine, noisy, as well as incredibly hot from all that friction. This would work really really well in those smaller engines, which cannot afford the cost of a supercharger. Not a bad idea.

  • Are you trying to seduce me?

  • what a shitty animation

  • Ha ha ha ha!!!! Serius!

    Hillbilly ford has a turbo!!!!

And the rest of the world has left the stoneage behind themself.

  • ohhh come ON, has anyone here ever seen a turbo? the turbine wheel looks nothing like this one... tell me im not the only one that noticed it, please tell me somebody else figured that the compressor and turbine wheels look the same on this animation

  • haha cool i've only heard of found on rubish dump

  • peter

  • so... the turbocharger takes the air the other thing that looks a compressor, condenses the air to like more colder to keep the engine save at high rpm's and then out right?

  • exhaust is used to spool up the turbo, the intake side sucks in air, compresses it, and forces it into the intake manifold, which then hits the cylinders. the turbo is exhaust driven, and the reason why ford is treating turbo technology like its something new is beyond me....

  • @element774 Haha, very true. This is an animation of a turbo system! Thats it. ECO boost ot not.

  • @element774 Not new, just new to the american market of production cars.

  • @bedbug84 True.. Your changing from your big V12 Supercharged slugs to little twin-turbo hatchbacks ;P

  • @element774 I think the biggest reason Ford is marketing their turbo technology like they are is the use of an undersized turbo for economy as opposed to high RPM horsepower, they are also coupling that with direct injection (which is new on passenger gasoline vehicles) to allow for use of lower octane gasoline, typically a turbo gas engine requires premium fuel. They are also running pretty high compression on those motors with the direct injection, say 10:1. Nothing new under the sun!

  • @moparmadness74dodge even direct injection is actually not new. mitsubishi has been using it since 1996 followed by nissan and toyota.. at that time, major countries outside japan can't use it because of high sulphur in their petrol..

  • FuckerOnlyRunsDownhill. ford.....

  • just saying using V8s as a daily driver is not very fuel efficent. If you have a lot of tools or heavy stuff to pull around its a good engine, but not as a run around to shops.

Ive a small 1.1 litre punto to do all the shopping and motorway use.hey it not the most powerful car but returns 35 mpg town use and 58 mpg highway use. costs hardly anything in running costs!

  • Germans have used direct injection for years, FSI is pretty good example;high power output with lower emissions. VW TSI units have shown that high power can be extracted from very small engines. Has anyone in the US ever seen a 4 cylinder 1.4 litre engine?let alone one that makes 180 hp(new seat) Ford is a dying dinosaur, old technology and slow progress is why its going under! I think the US needs to think hard about developing smaller, fuel efficient cars.Their more fun anyway

  • wow bright idea, oh wait to late considering that part of why GM,Ford, and Chrysler is going under. we want more small displacement cars that are fuel efficent and still fun and comfy. GM though got the best MPG from a V8 i've seen though with 29mpg hwy 22-24mpg average with the 04gto and about the same in a 6spd firebird/camaro. don't see many V8's getting 18-29mpg or 18-28mpg like gm does

  • Heh, nothing revolutionary about that. Throw in a turbo and a compressor and use a small displacement 4-cylinder engine. That's just what VW has done.

  • and audi ;)

  • RIP ford.. just more of the reason they need to just be let the hell go. all marketing. it's a reg turbo with intercooler, the Japanese have been bussing fords ass for years with um.

  • Look closer and you will see that BMW FORD and many others doing this oh and you missed the most critical part tboned86 its direct injection. They inject gasoline into the cylinder the same way they've been injecting diesel for years its a huge leap in gas engine technology since the down draft and side draft carbs of the early 1900s.

  • EcoCharger? ...Nothing but marketing hype over pre-existing and old technologies.

  • What? It's just a normal turbocharger! I don't see anything different.

  • yeah but like..a tiny breeze adds 0.0000000000000000003 more horsepower

so u just HAVE to pay shit hole ford another few grand

  • Ok looks like regular turbo system to me. This is a stupid commercial. Re-inveting the wheel?? I think so. Hey lets re-name a the supercharger to "EcoCharger while we are at it.

  • Ok .

  • Looks like a regular turbo to me.

  • i compleate understand now thanx

  • We're not going to be able to save any substantial amount of fuel with ecoboost are we?

It's again just about power and not about economy at all.

Same bullshit over and over by these loser domestic companies.

  • It's direct injected and turbocharged.

    A Turbocharged 4.0 V6 making 300 horsepower uses less fuel than a 5.4 V8 making 300 horsepower.

  • i highly doubt that makes sense otherwise america would have caught on a long time ago.

a turbo stuffs more air int he engine so more fuel can be burnt so more power can be aquired per stroke. so its the same amount of fuel burning to give 300HP in a 4.0l engine and a 5.4L engine.. i think the biggest savings will be in the power to weight aspect. a 5.4L engine will be heavier than a 4.0L wouldn't it. more weight = more fuel needed to move the car

  • This isn't News. Why do you think new engines have features where they can cancel cylinders at low load?

A smaller displacement engine operating at higher load is more efficient than a larger engine operating at low load.

The Turbochargers allows you to use a smaller displacement engine to maintain fuel efficiency but maintain the advantages of more displacement which is more power.

  • blah blah blah

    basically

    non turbo=chyeah whatever

    turbo=fassttaaa!!

    ok if u rock up to a mates place wod u rather a 5.4l V8..or a 4.0l V6?????

who gives a shti about fuel the planet can go fuck itself if it doesnt like it

    greanpeace can lick my arse

  • I don't think there's supposed to be a difference. They're just trying to emphasize on hooking up a turbocharger with the EcoBoost to let people know that it will have more power and fuel economy. Also, it's good to know how one works too.

  • does it just blow air inwards hence having a turbo before combustion happens and then suck it out again like an ordinary single turbo would??

  • Turbos do not 'suck' exhaust out. The exhaust side acts like a pinwheel (red), being driven by the energy in the exhaust. It does create 'some' backpressure. But this energy drives the compressor side(blue) which is like a fan, which forces additional air into the engine. The additional power created by the additional air more than makes up for the slight amount of power lost due to increased backpressure and driving the (red) turbine.

  • oh ok thankyou, that kinda makes more sense than how i was viewing it in my mind. cheers

  • ford thinks everyone forgot what's a turbo just because they haven't used heavily it since early 90s like sierra and escort...

The last one was focus RS. Their current ST has a volvo turbo engine.

  • Don't forget the Probe GT.

MMUC made their engines and IHI the turbochargers.

    (Auto Alliance Inc. formerly MMUC)

  • I think it has to do more with emissions... looks like it injects air into the exhaust...

  • it works just like a regular turbo charger.......?

  • yeah what's the difference?

  • the point of EcoBoost seems to be combining a turbo with direct fuel injection, rather than just turbocharging a smaller engine than american customers are used to, to give not only the same power and lower emissions/fuel consumption, but also improve low-rpm response, a traditional weakness of turbo engines versus large-displacement natural aspiration. despite ford's marketing, the technology is only new to ford: any audi turbo with the letters "FSI" has worked like this for the past 5 years.

  • Mark has it, the direct injection that is curiously not shown means that more boost and leaner mixtures/advance can be run due to the cooling effect of the injection. Its pretty cool that an American company is finally implementing turbos to increase efficiency on a wide scale. I'm no fan of the US auto industry, but bravo Ford.
