This was probably from 1964. Near the end of the clip, Ernie announces an upcoming movie on "Masterpiece Theater," which was his Saturday show - which didn't exist in 1963, it started in 1964. Also, by 1965, Ghoulardi was usually broadcast in color.....so I'm guessing this clip IS from 1964.
@videoholiccollection Interesting. The reason I said '63 is because elsewhere in this video he makes a reference to JFK calling him something like "Smilin' Jack" (or a similar cute nickname). It seemed to me that even Ernie Anderson wouldn't have done that after November 1963. Although what you're saying about Masterpiece Theater makes me wonder. The mystery continues.
Man we were so lucky to have had Ghoulardi in cleveland as kids :D! I remember the jiffy pop popcorn to go along with staying up to watch Ghoulardi on Friday night :D
The best description I ever heard of the whole Ghoulardi phenomenon can be found on the commentary track at the end of the DVD of BOOGIE NIGHTS. Paul Thomas Anderson(Ernie's son)wasn't there from 1963-66, but still nails the essence of what his dad was doing on Cleveland TV all those years ago.
@chubbycheeks2..Ernie Anderson said much later in an interview (about the poker joke) If he had thought half a second of what he was going to say, he would never have said it..
You could be right about this being from '65. The guy I got it from had no idea when it was taped or even why. The reason I said '63 is because in another segment of the tape Ghoulardi pokes fun at John F. Kennedy. I can't recall what he says. But it didn't seem the kind of thing you'd do on TV after Kennedy died. And the comment seemed to imply JFK was alive. I think maybe he called him "Smilin' Jack."
@doubtboy I think you're right. NO ONE would take a shot at JFK after he died...Which already sounds like a bad joke. I did'nt mean it that way . No one would for many years , anyway. Even Ghoulardi had his limits.
Thanks for sharing Boo Radley , and remember what I told you ,kid. "Oxnard".
I think this one is from 1965, because he didn't pick on Parma before that year. In 63 when it all started, it was the expressions "Turn Blue" or "knif". In 64, the boom booms came out.
Ghoulardi was one of a kind.I remember so many skits he did during his heydey as well as his masterpiece:Parma Place(12/17/65-3/4/66).Parma Place was so controversial it was forced off the air by the people of Parma-but I am one of many who will always associate the song Who Stole the Kishka with this Certain Ethnic suberb.
Ghoulardi was awesome. I was 8 years old in 1963. In Cleveland, the two best shows for kids was Ghoulardi and The Hoolihan & Big Chuck Show, three if you count Barnaby for the afternoon cartoons. Great stuff in the days of black and white TV.
i'm 62 live in lorain ohio remeber this & him like it was 2day - could not wait for the weekend & ghoulardi - how he blew things up were a riot

"Hate You? Never! Want to see you again."
Well thanks very much Knif. Now, i....what?... I read it wrong? It's supposed to be:
"Hate you--never want to see you again."
Well, that's better. For a moment I thought you were sick.

This had to have been '63, because in '64, Ghoulardi started wearing the lab coat, half shades, and the wighat.

There's another video on here with Big Chuck & Lil' John and they show parts of this video. Chuck says it's from 63.
