E.E. Bagley seems to be inspired by (south) German Army marches, which he might have learned to know during his time with the Germania band in Boston. You can hear the influence of German A r m y band music from 1:46 on - it's obviously! In Germany we divide into two categories of marches: Army (military) marches and concert marches. National Emblem is the ONLY American march I know, which really reminds me of our ARMY marches! Greetings from Germany!
@canepazzoTannen84 To me too, Loved the Dirty Dozen, on my DVR at home, cant wait to watch it! Was on AMC over Memorial Day Weekend. Along with many others!
Euphonium's didn't hit the High High B flat in this recording? Whaaaat?! I am not impressed by that, since I hit it and I play Euphonium. Still, it's a good march.
From 1:46 on is awesome! I love it when our band (The USAF Band) plays it during our lawn ceremonies. Always gets me excited to be there to do that mission.
Oh, the monkey wrapped his tail around the flag pole; To let the wind blow; Up his hole. Then the people came to see the icy wind blow; Up his ass hole; 'Side the pole. Then the monkey laughed Oh ho ho ho ho hoo hooo; To let the people know; That it was time to go. And so they all went home; And came back the next day; To see it all again! Oh ho ho ho.
The National Emblem Marchh was written in 1902 by Edwin Eugene Bagley from New Hampshire. He wasn't satisfied with it and made a number of revisions to it over the next five years before getting it published as sheet music. The tune caught on with brass bands all over the USA and miliraty bands started playing it. John phillip Sousa called it one of the five best marches ever written and his Marine Corps band played it regularly. In 1918 some now-forgotten soldier made up a lyric...
The lyrics to the second section of this march became an instant hit with American troops during WW1. As Bagley lived until 1922, I'm sure he heard them but I'm not so sure he approved of them. At one time nearly every American serviceman could sing the first verse, but no one in today's military knows the words any longer even if the music is still familiar. Here We Go!!!
My highschool band is playing this! I love it! GO USAF!!

Who would have thought that it's first title was -"Monkey's Wrapping tails around the flagpole" would become our National Emblem March.

This music recalls me a precise quote:
Pinkley: [impersonating a General] Where are you from, son?
Soldier: Madison City, Missouri, sir!
Pinkley: Never heard of it.

I simply love this march however there was absolutely no contrasting dynamics in this performance, didn't mean to sound pretentious...

@2000TA I'm a Navy vet and it always reminds me of going to sea. It kind of has a nautical sound to it at 2:04 . I love it nonetheless.

To let the wind blow

Right up his hole...
