  • There was more inter-tribal warfare then people think.

  • LOVE EACHOTHER ....FOR X BEING SNAKE.

  • Dear Scorberg, Malick actually studied philosophy at University. Do u realise what that means in terms of what u have just claimed to be Malick's underlying message in the film? You may be misplacing your views with Malick's here.

  • @funkeykong Just because you study philosophy and not theology doesn't mean that you are not inclined more towards religion. Bishop Fulton Sheen wrote his dissertation on the Blessed Mother but got his PHD in philosophy and not theology. It is a plain fact: Malick is a Catholic and always was. Look it up online (it may take you a while though). Malick was going to write part of his dissertation on Heidegger, who was an existentialist, but was influenced by Plato, Aristotle & even St. Augustine.

  • @Scorberg I thought Malick's family was Syriac Christian and just sort of "adopted" catholicism when his grandfather came to the US.

  • @snillocgrom In all honesty the man is very seclusive and not much is known about him. I think his father is of assyrian descent and Christian. I think his mother was Catholic though, that's where his roots came in.

  • kiedy szaman wyplywa do angli zeby zobaczyc 'boga o ktorym ciagle mowia' i wraca na koniec filmu na koniec streszczenia(: miodziowa projekcja

  • You can see why the natives of this continent fought so hard to keep the land. So untouched and wild and free. Now people are rebelling against their own civilization cause it brings us so much sorrow and doubt.

  • Terrence Malick is a Catholic. This opening voice over is so critical to the rest of the film. The film can read as a biblical history and analyzation of our world. "Spirit" at the beginning of this is refers to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is one with the Blessed Virigin, so Malick is placing Mary at the center of this film. And being a Catholic, my interpretation of what Malick is getting at with this film is the importance of Mary and he shows it through Pochantas.

  • @Scorberg I can't reason u'r view cause I've forgotten the film, but very insightful observation dude

  • @Scorberg

"Spirit" @ the beginning just refers to the great spirit. Wakan Tanka, don't you know natives american history and culture ?

  • each time, i watch that opening, i shiver and i dream of an earth with no pollution , with respect of nature and peace. Maybe i'm too naive. Love . Maybe i'm not?

  • @Nikkafan why sure, because you know what its like living like ur ancestors hahahah

  • just reminds me of how far america has come from those times...with today's oil spill -- and plenty of people who still think sucking black liquid out of the depths of earth is still the solution.

  • I suspect that The New World portrays Native Americans in a highly accurate light in comparison to other films - beautifully strong and well adapted to the physical demands of living in a natural environment.

Much like how Office Space portrays Modern Americans in a highly accurate light - victims of an unnatural and technologically-based environment lol.

  • we're all so disconnected... but we dont have to be... can u feel it sometimes.. the depth in urself is the depth of life... bask in it

  • i like disneys pocahontas best :).

I know this is different kinda.

  • yeah there's no talking trees

  • I doubt my little nephew would appreciate Malicks take on Pocohontas!!

  • land is for all not one, two, three or more but all. there should be no lines on the map. there should be no greed for if all worked together the world would have all the food and clean water we need. and our health would will be better because we would all care for each other and work in safe enviroment for a good cause and so would have no need for money. This would be love.

  • I share your sentiment, but it totally negates basic human nature. We, as a species, are covetous, deceitful and wasteful - and yet we do have the capacity to do exactly what you say. But you must realize, even in your star trek utopia, that there are villains.

  • @ulmovarda A wonderful comment! And so very true.

  • you would enjoy the 'making of' on the dvd

    xo

  • This was the only part of the movie I liked ... haha

  • I knew I was in for something when I first saw this opening of the movie.

  • The sounds... So beautiful!!

  • Can it be any longer? Great clip, though.
