Mavis sounds great! Go lady do your thing. I loved me some Staple Singers and Mavis had her rmoments where she wasn't always the best but she sounds great here.
No, this song, was written, and first recorded, by a Gospel Group, called The Consolers. I think it was around 1963, when students, were marching with Dr. King, and the parents were so worried.
I love this song, and I love Mavis also. I have been a follower of them since I was a teenager. Just celebrated my 68th birthday, and I still love them(Gopel Better), but never the less they are and always will be one of my favorites. God bless Sister D
Happy Birthday...this ones for you! Every time I watch this video, I get chills. It was such a magical performance! Props both to Mavis and her guitar player Rick Holmstrom...

NO ONE CAN EVER TAKE MAHALIA'S PLACE BUT SOMEONE MUST CONTINUE TO SPREAD THE WORD. ONLY ONE CAN DO THIS JOB AS MAHALIA DID. THE MIGHTY MAVIS.

Mavis just reaches in and grabs you by the heart. You'd have to be a hard, cold man or woman not to be moved.

I was in the audience, although further back where there wasn't as much chatter.
Thank you for posting this so I can periodically refresh my memory how well Mavis performed at Strawberry after all these years.

Thanks. Yes, she was awesome as well as the rest of the band. Enjoy! I also posted Freedom Highway which rocked and soul'd!

The crowd sounds so rude, why attend a concert and talk while this great singer is singing...
