Well, over a score of other ethnic groups - like the Abkhaz, Bashkirs, Chechens, Chuvash, Kalmyks, Karalpaks, Karelians, and even the Germans (look up the Volga German Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic) - actually had their own autonomous republics (not simply regional autonomies).
And of course, besides the demographically strongest Russian group, there were 14 other ethnic Soviet Socialist republics (with the highest possible degree of autonomy).
