And this is the reason I still have a cassette player in my car! I just wore out my Kenwood and glad I kept the Sony in storage, to keep playing my Maxwell mixes.
These Radio Mixes I think are an important part of "the times" and should be preserved and shared like this... thanks for recording the tapes, and sharing them with us! I have some deep in my storage from San Diego, but I don't know who the DJs were...something like "hot mix" or "Super mix"... done very similarly to these tapes. I happened to record the new year's eve countdown...
This video was posted on a facebook page named - HISTORY OF HOUSE MUSIC. I don't know who running that page but....they don't know jack about House Music, ESPECIALLY Chicago House Music. I am officially putting them on BLAST as POSERS.
@lrmxr1 ....why is it wrong to say this is part of the history of house? Surely it would be wrong not to include this in the history of house?? wouldnt it be like sayin larry levan was a no-one???
Thee original hot mix five were: Kenny 'Jammin" Jason, Mickey "Mixin' Oliver, Ralphie "Rockin" Rosario, Scott "Smokin" Silz, and Farley "Funkin" Keith. Get it right my old skool people!
hey Iross49 - nice comment - check out - player1 by Nick Holder Chicken Lips remix - that came out in 2009 and is of the old house sound - in case you were wondering Chicken Lips are actually Bizarre Inc who made many unbelievable tracks in the early 90s. 2010 is the way forward for proper house - here we go!!!
Thee original hot mix five were: Kenny 'Jammin" Jason, Mickey "Mixin' Oliver, Ralphie "Rockin" Rosario, Scott "Smokin" Silz, and Farley "Funkin" Keith. Get it right my old skool people!
Actually, the original Hot Mix 5 consisted of: Kenny "jammin" Jason, Ralphie "the razz" Rosario, Mickey "mixin'" Oliver, Steve "silk" Hurley, And Farley "funkin" Kieth as he was known back then. But you are right. They don't make House Music like this anymore!
Wow I remember those old Maxell cassettes. Talk about old. The 90 min ones played so long they often sweated and stuck to the rollers.
I recorded tons of the old mixes off WGCI, WBMX and even B96. Those were the good old days of music. The crap they play today isn't even worth 5 mins of time.
@TechieXP I still got crapload of WKKC 89.3 Mixes from 80s thru 2006, And I got Crapoad of B96 Street Mix w/ Bobby D, Julian Jumpin Perez, Tim Spinnin Schomer, Brian Hitmix Middleton, Mixin Mark, Bad Boy Bill, DJ Marski.
@qwandiddy - Wow, sounds like a nice collection. Bobby D was my favorite back then. I don't like any of the new music, its just noise. My biggest collection is his stuff, but I have a bunch of 80/90's mixes from other Dj's. Visit energeticsounds and you can get stuff from many of them. Also this site - deephousepage is a good place to get mixes from the old Hot Mix 5
@TechieXP :) you took the words right out my mouth, I used to go home early on Fridays just to record the radio stations so I could listen to it at school :)
They dont make house like they used to.why does the 'dance' music of today hurt my ears so,i used to love these underground mix tapes, they were like gold dust, they were years ahead of their time, bring it back......
And this is the reason I still have a cassette player in my car! I just wore out my Kenwood and glad I kept the Sony in storage, to keep playing my Maxwell mixes.

All the dance music today on mainstream radio sounds exactly like this --- only this is better. Music hasn't changed much.
