@duttz52, I remember the Broughtons from the early seventies, used to appear in Cornwall where I had a milk round, roadie was Smiffy who gave me a hand from time to time. Often think of those great days; young, couldn't give a shit, etc. :)
Does anyone know the story of the album cover! There's a woman's legs in that slaughterhouse but what is all that other stuff? This must've been controversial at the time.
I used to see this band in the country club when i carried the dj jerry floyds gear for him great times the roadie was called terry always wore crushed velvet trousers came to our flat in golders green for a puff anyone else still alive from then drop me a line DUTTZ52 here
This is the best song ever written for me.... so much more meaning than we were meant to understand..... this is the stuff great songs can only dream off
Hey Edgar; remember that huge tall dude that had to give you the hug when you had the concert in Oslo @ John Dee few years ago? Photgraph were taken as well :-)
@PAULLONDEN I hated as a young boy all the HARVEST label albums I couldn't see in local shops where I lived or shops like Woolworths, that were on show on the inner sleeve of Harvest albums we had, like Pink Floyd. We had to travel 20 miles to the city (a big deal in those days !) to see the actual good prog rock albums in cool smaller shops in the city centre. I also had Old Gopher on the Harvest compilation album PICNIC in 1972, which also had Floyd's EMBRYO
Without a doubt!!! This is the best song ever written about us. Not just the music, but mostly as a poetry. Incredibly close to what all of us need to hear.
To be honest, this is perhaps the only song that I remember the lyrics from, from the 1970s. The lyrics of this song are great, and even better; the EBB is still King!
They rose up in a column Hundreds upon hundreds And twice that many wingspeed Four miles across Stretched a million miles high The living pulsing column In the lady of the sky Feathers thrashed together Locked in that huge one I knew no-one could see it And now that it was gone I rubbed my eyes and tried to find A reason for the flight Exodus escape or was it just for me to see Like the mating of the earth and air Like water is to flowers The envy of her friends
The smoke hung on the skyline The city fell in silence The sunset ripe and mellow Was the light to write some thoughts by Her children watched for father From their window in the wall Said a prayer for Grandpapa And maybe many more Somewhere in the distance On a road so far away I heard the sound of life Though the people left for home Three birds flew off a building Standing proud against the sky Many more flew with them Spiraled upward like laughter Faster harder
i love this song so i think i will contribute by giving the lyrics to the song =) The air was thick like honey Looking from the room The room had open windows To let the springtime through Evening stood by watching At the side of summer's promise The flowers in her garden Were the envy of her friends How far are we from dying Is it nearly at an end How far are we from dying Is it nearly at an end

somewhere around the middle of the 60s the band appered at the Underground Club in northampton.after the show ended a few of us got in the van and off we went to where i cant remember ,but i remember one of our mates ,dawn came along too ..
Wow - how amazing to hear this again after many years. And to hear comments about Buxton festival. One of those pivotal times in my life was watching EBB do this whilst enjoying my first proper acid experience. Spent all my money on drugs so had no food then Red cross came in with free sandwiches! Magic memories!
Great song from the 70's. And i think that the melody from Neil Young's "Like A Hurricane" sounds a lot like this one here. EOR was released 2 or 3 years before LAH, so maybe Neil was influenced by these guys.
Wanted to see the Broughtons since I was 13. Missed them at numerous festivals for 30 years and finally got to see them a couple of years ago in Sheffield. Worth the wait!!!

I love Edgar. The EBB played our school end of year concert 3 times 'cos we loved them so much. They never did Evening over Rooptops when I saw them though. That song stayed with me for all these years as a masterpiece. I bought the album on CD about 5 years ago and now it's on my car system and I can hear it anywhere I go. Thanks Choobydoo, and thanks Edgar.
Ooppss, I forgot something. Many, many thank you Choobydop, for adding this video and I thoroughly enjoyed your side show... Well done a Five Star Salute to yaw...
Dam, it's brilliant to hear this track once again. Another nice daze down memory lane... I have replayed this over four times... Just before I left England in 74' I could not get the original LP from my mate hands back then after he played it and introduce me to them...Hey Patches, yaw still out there brother?
