  • your max flat really is only 325? i find that hard to belive id imagine you could do at least 340 350 no arch considering what i seen you do in some of your videos

  • its varies for everyone a close grip is usually can be anywhere from 5-30 pounds harder. If you close grip 325, shooting for 335+ might a reasonable to shot for.

  • well I haven't been feeling 100% on the bench press movements, my left shoulder has been holding me back some, maybe if it wasn't bothering me I could press more, I never really tried maxing flat at the start of a workout, the 325 I did was after a max arching attempt so I wasn't 100% for it. Maybe when I am feeling better I will but this just as of now.

  • so your close and reg max are pretty close only 10 lbs apart the reasonn i asked was cause i close gripped 325 the other day soo i figured id ask you what yoru max was to maybe get an idea of what i should go for but im almost postive i wouldnt get 360

  • yeah I came along way on this exercise, my max was before this was like 290, so I made some great gains on this one, I am hoping for a 350+ close grip in the future and 405 raw bench press.

  • hey the camo dude was a kickass spotter, i could care less what he wears as long as he spots good!

    My close grip bench is usually 15-30 pounds lighter then my normal grip bench, 12 inch grip on close grip, and 28 inch grip normal.

    If the 5-3-1 doesn't work out I may consider critical bench, your program, or the johnie jackson program, all this time i really just kind of did whatever i felt like lol, so I think it is time to try something new. I am hoping to hit 385-405 within the next year.

  • i wouldnt be surprised if you could do 340 flat backed normal grip. you definately had 320-325 in you today with close grip.

  • I think yesterday when I went flat I just had a really off day, because my normal grip is usually 15-30 pounds stronger then my close grip, I think on a better day with a normal grip I could get 330, but I want to shift into the 5-3-1 next week, and use 90% of 315 for close grip, and use 90% of 325 after O get done doing 2-3 cycles with the cambered bar.

    hey by the way that gym that held the bench press contest is planning to throw a full meet in november, squat, bench press (touch and go), and deadlift.
