  • Soulful shit, straight cut!!

  • Dead presidents brought me here...too

  • 31 people have no soul...

  • dead presidents brought me here.

  • goodness gracious!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if music was still this good the world would be a different place

  • We don't talk whitey and blackey in Canada ....and we aren't famous for owning guns...how come U in the States have a problem showing love for music without criticizing the color of a person's skin? We can all save each other from drowning, from falling, from catastrophe...it doesn't matter about color...like Martin Luther said...it matters about the talent within and the color of your kharma!

  • this song jams hard i found out about this song by the movie dead presidents when he came back from the war and went back to the club for the first time soon as he walked in the bass just dropped!

  • rustee allen + sly

  • FVCK YES. THE BASS ON THIS TRACK IS NAASSTTYYY. Much love to Sly

  • number 1 gonna be # 1 ! This my jam

  • if u wanat me to judge you must put a I LOVE CATEGORY you dont like and dislike evrything people somethings you simple songly just hate or love or hate so dont call me nigga whiety so we can all take a stand cause we all family and its our affair i love me so much!!!

  • Wet dog smelling white trash...fuck you and your negative comments about Sly...god is really an asshole for creating you pieces of shit...

  • @effsixteenblock50 he says "I'm through, man"

  • What does he say at 2:42? Sounds like "underwear"....

  • BASS!

  • I always loved how Sly said at the end "Im through wit it man." He knew he knocked it out of the park. Kind of like a rapper just droppin the mic at end. Nobody else can touch it.

  • I love RHCP version, but this is the bomb. Even Sly's other version doesn't come close. Anyone who disagrees either likes the 1st version they hear of anything or they'll never get it. Sublime in it's simplicity, but not as simple as it sounds, singin' a simple song. It is PERFECT. Yeah, there's a 1 & 1/2 minutes of air at the end, whoever posted this. But this is the best version - the one off the album.

  • Medium anybody? :)

  • Sly Stone is homeless living in a camper, google it.

  • @annoythefish SUPPERR old news buddy. Listen to RHCP's 'Rolling Sly Stone'.

  • @annoythefish Read this article too. Still making music in the van he lives in.. Great music can be made in the most unlikely places.. Can only imagine what are ears are missin...Sly where you at...time is a wastin..bring us some Real Music=)

  • Long Live Sly!

  • I just met the saxophonists daughter. And she said her dad, JERRY MARTINI, might play a few songs with my band, Offical Response. Greatest day of my life.

  • ohmygod, I never knew why my parents were like; 'listen this, listen this!!' now I do..

  • i learned this song when i was 13 and i still love to play it today when i got to play it loud in front of a crowd at a high school basketball game( weird right) every girl in the place stopped what she was doing and looked at ME! And suddenly i was the coolest cat around. Here's to the power of funk!

  • I grew up on this song! Sly & The Family Stone was just one of many GREAT black or white talented groups! Love this song...and so glad to hear the young group Pop Lyfe covering it!

  • i got to be meee

  • i remember this first time round loved it then love it now what a tune

  • can't stop listening to this song :)

  • ...with all that's been said.... it seems that Sly.... is as relevant as ever...!....

...don't judge others...we all have skeletons in our closets...

  • This is classic Sly Stone funk! And he was one the the greatest funkmasters of his era. No, I have to correct myself; he was/is one of the best of ANY era. The Chilis, pretty good funksters themselves, know when and who to cover when it comes to good soul. They KNOW. Others would do well to listen.

  • can anyone help me find out the notes for the trumpet part in this song? thanks

  • @dannyivanandkaren i have the brass parts transcribed transcribed if u want them?

  • pcp ruined this group...damn you pcp

  • the first time i heard this song was in the movie "Money Talks". Chris Tucker

  • prince's most important musical influence

  • been an hour or so . cant get enough. from the badass bass groove which hooks you and sly comin in and takes you for the whole show . oooweee

  • THIS WAS SLY'S LAST GREAT ONE! AFTER THIS ONE HE WAS THROUGH! BUT HE WENT OUT WITH A BANG! THIS TO ME WAS HIS BEST

  • Perfection.....

  • Money Talks

  • I wish I was born in 60's

  • @xyzipperX

If you were born in the 60'ies, then you wouldn't be old enough to be the first to hear this music. :P

  • @Danielfaa

    right!!

    I wish I was born in,,,40's.

  • @xyzipperX Really? Youre knees and hips wont!..*LOL*

  • just for my sista

  • does my dance

  • Not to be 'that guy', but I almost (almost being the key word here) like the Chili Peppers remix more

  • im 15, i love this

  • @Celebration55 16 here. age doesn't matter :-)

  • I love this song, I always listen to it on repeat every single chance I get, good thing I have the CD, it was on the soundtract for the movie Dead Presidents

  • The opening reiminds me of Temptations' "Runaway Child Running WIld".

  • after listening to this for 40 years, I figured out that Sly's voice is sped up, also the bass pitch is up about 1/2 step. so I guess that means the tape was running slow during recording. anyone?

  • @radcam69 Interesting indeed haven't tried it yet but now I will. How do you know that just didn't have the wrong key? I agree that his voice does sound "chipmunk-like" possibly a result of engineering or perhaps he altered his voice himself during the recording process through some kind of nasally technique.

  • @radcam69 i seem to remember reading that Sly was so demanding with his musicians during the recording of this album that he wore down the tapes with constant re-recordings and overdubs. this caused the sound to be slightly 'dusty' (for want of better word), which sounds perfect for the tunes.

  • number one hit song in all through america!!!..... we need the 70's talent back

  • @katdaddy646 yes indeed u can say that again i just love everything about the 70's

  • Just enjoy the music pussies!!!

  • sly is a genius and his family expresses that.

  • Why are Americans so homophobic? Ever video turns into a battle of people calling each other gay. Just enjoy the song.

  • I see a great number of references to race, there is an old saying "music soothes the savage beast" there is nothing about race in that statement or in music, don't bring race into music it does not belong there, it has no place there and anyone who entertains the thought of race in music is just pure ignorant...

  • this is the SHIT!

  • Groovin'

  • not that i'm gay.....but sly has the voice of a fucking angel

  • @InfidelMC No man! you said it! you ARE gay - you must be!! lol

  • @atomus and youre straight hahahaha

why dont you have sex with girls now cuz your so straight

hey guys check him out haha

  • @leotheloser nah man I havnt touched pussy in years...

it takes a gay one to know one ;)

  • @atomus you are not gay

    you are fuckin straight

    hey guys

looks like we have a straight guy here hehe

    lets beat him up

    ryt guys?

  • Back when black music was great! Before the garbage known as rap.

  • 27 people should clear a mine field by running across it

  • I listen to this song because of the serie named Cold Case.. I don't really like this kind of music but damn this is a hell of a song!!! I like it it's really good.. powerfull. Recommended!

  • Larry Graham on bass pulls you in on this song. Sly's voice contributed to a lot of artist imitations including Lionel Richie with the Commodores and the Ohio Players.

Gotta love that bass with Larry!

  • @ewoo23a That's not Larry Graham on bass it's Rustee Allen, Larry's hand picked replacement

  • Larry Graham on bass pulls you in on this song. Sly's voice contributed to a lot of artist imitations including Lionel Richie with the Commodores and the Ohio Players.

Gotta love that bass with Larry!

  • Wishing I was black right now.

  • @FrizAtHome lol man you dont have to be black to enjoy this...but i do see what you mean lol

  • ALL PRETENDERS PAY HEED THIS WAS TRUE FUNK

  • Sly was like, did u know that this existed in ur soul. Ima peel back tha layers and show u whats there. Music is so deep and powerful. He went deep in black folks soul and brought back some stuff we didn't know was there.

  • Is This The Original! ;) I Like this Song!!!

  • @AlPacone

Yes indeed. It was covered in 1985 by the Red Hot Chili Peppers

  • My mother told me this story about how she went to a Sly & the Family Stone concert in West Virginia when she was young and Sly came on stage high as ever, sang three songs (this one included), said "Goodnight everybody!", and left. She said it took the crowd a long time to figure out he wasn't coming back, but it really was one of the best concerts she ever went to. lol

    <3 this song!

  • Is this the original? Everyone shud check out the rhcp cover

  • @jewsmakingmovies I did, didnt care for it much since I grew up with the original.

  • @bladesaint21 First time i listened to this i dint rly like it in comparison to rhcp but this is good both versions have their strong points

  • Is this the original?

  • I will give 27 people the muthafkcin biznezz...im serious....this song is the best!!

  • 27 people didn't want Sly to stay

  • Two words: FUCK YEAH!

  • who plays the bass?

  • @SmileySmileAM I think it was Rustee Allen...

  • Muy Grandes!

  • blesss yoouu slyy andwat fucken sick bass

  • First Time Hearing this song... I like it!! :) There is so much Racism in the world can't we just enjoy each other and everyones Talents? Color means nothing to me! There are great Ppl you are missing because you don't want to talk/ get to know them because of color...

  • when I was little I did a karate routine to this song at my karate place

  • What's with all the racist shit? Why are you people ignoring the fact that there's an incredible funk song playing right now? Shh. Listen. Groove.

  • @DanDanTheBassman I'm a 49 yr old white guy and i listen to this song at least once a week.... Rock/Funk the fuck on sylvester you GOD of MUSIC....Appreciate what you are listening to people... in 200 yrs this will be mozart.... beethoven.... chopin.... bach..... mmmmmmmmm!!!

  • @milesneedham you are absolutely right, Sly is a "starving artist" just as these guys were in their day. It's the legacy that endures.

  • @DanDanTheBassman Racist people are too stupid and feel out of place when on a video not relating to race so they start a spat involving race so they can feel important and acknowledged rather than enjoying the music and learning. Answers your question?

  • THE FIRST SONG I PLAYED ON THE BASS AT AGE 8! LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!!!

  • this shit slap even tho im young thiz my shit

  • looooooooooooove this song

  • @teehonky if u want a white man to leave u the f@#k alone

a chain him up in a dungeon

b dont feed him or give him water

c tell him AFRICA has arrived

d after his suffering behead his a%%

**now how u like that tee**HONKY!

  • @dimondgurlable hmmm ....none would work on me..since I assume you're a black person, you couldnt POSSIBLY do all those things to a white person anyway..most blacks turn YELLOW at the sight of a white man

  • @dimondgurlable white people produced this nothing but a DANCING NIGGER doing a few tricks like a well trained poodle

  • @reinhardt01 Hold on to that thought...because your wrong on so many levels...Sly produced it(pretty sure hes black).....He doesnt dance(he wrote/arranged/and produced/played the song)....and youve obviously never trained a poodle....it takes alot of practice and patience,It can be quite difficult...Now,please return to the stoneage my caveman friend

  • Fresh is one of the best albums I've ever heard, even if it's without the original Family Stone line-up. Maybe the last great, classic album Sly Stone did (after Stand! and There's A Riot Going On, etc..). Thanks for posting this

  • so awesome

  • best song ever!

  • man, ain't no school, like the oldschool...

  • @uedaniels

Quote from the Incredibles right? hahaha

  • awesome song

  • One of the sickest basslines ever made in the history of basslines

  • @virgo825 I agree most definitely.

  • @virgo825 that's the great Rustee Allen who replaced Larry Graham.

  • @radcam69 I always thought it was Rustee. Some say Sly played bass on this track.

  • @bassistdc I thought it was Bobby Vega.

  • @virgo825 Oh Yeah! Only Verdine White (E,W,&F) could do it better!

  • @virgo825 I love the bassline on this but there aren't any tracks on youtube where I can really hear it. I listened to it on a tape and I could hear it on there. Do you know where I can find it online with a loud bassline?

  • @SeaOfOceans it usually echoes off the walls of your moms vagina

  • @1000rtodd Mature.

  • @SeaOfOceans I can hear it very well when I use my headphones

  • @tacoque at least MY mom has one

  • well what a fantastic old classic and one i always forget about.. thanks cheripie for reminding me about this toe tapper and obviously u drumming till dawn for uploading the beauty x

  • I just realised I'm an asshole...

I've been listening to the RHCP-cover of this thingy for years now and never knew it even was a cover.

Both versions are really good. Back then, when the Peppers were actually good... those were the good days...

  • @isntmynametoolong Haha, I was doing the exact same. RHCP are still awesome though. The music's different, but i think they're just as good as they were back then..

  • @isntmynametoolong Aw, you're not an asshole.

  • one of the best old school song of all times.

  • One of the best bass lines ever. Soo funky it ain't neva been fresh!

  • Yeah YEEEEEE AH

  • I LOVE SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE AND I USED TO GET WOOPINGS OFF THIS SONG, WHEN MAMA HAD COMPANY...LOL

  • Lord have mercy. I thank God for folks like Sly and the Family Stone and this music. Is that Larry Graham on the bass. It's bumpin' to no end. It makes this song.

  • @mcpm4 The bass player is Rusty Allen. Graham had left the group.

  • I remember this song came on, in Money Talks

  • i'm like 15 years old but my grandad used to baby sit me n play this kinda music all the time, they just dont make music like this any more this is back when u had to have talent to get a song on da radio

  • ...

*thanks the person who introduced me to this over and over and over and over in my head*

    C:

  • Black folks don't make this type of music anymore, everyfuckingthing has become hip hop bullshit and know body plays insterments anymore. It has all become smack my bitch, slang my Rocks, and shoot the cop.

  • @malcolmisenhower

Hip-hop isn't bullshit. What they play on the radio is not hip-hop. It's crap.

  • @jstewart713 word up

  • @jstewart713 Personally I like this as well as stuff that gets radio play.

  • @jstewart713 Say it again...I don't think he heard you...

  • @malcolmisenhower not true, have you even heard of the roots. They have real bass players, real drummers, real keyboardists, and even real tuba players. Don't listen to hip hop that's on the radio and look up alternative hip hop, witch is much better than mainstream

  • @malcolmisenhower This kind of music is still made. The record companys don't

    get behind it.

  • i was there in the 70's.... sly u da the man... i enjoyed that era... you rock......

  • My favorite song of all time---lyrical arrangement is pure genius. other people try to remake this song and look bad. these vocals can not be duplicated!

  • Yeah I'm 23. The funk runs through my veins though. It don't matter your age or when you were raised. Funk is alive.

  • I absolutely love this ... God that's why I love the 70s ahhh I wish I was alive through that era ... it was simply amazing.

Thank you so much for the upload ... I love that sick bass line it's amazing!!

  • lmao, Sly says at the end of the track, "I'm through man", and they kept it in the master. Now that's some funk for ya! RAW

  • I was watching David Blain on TV one day and I heard this in the background.

It blew me away cause I heard it when I was 15 , listening on the radio

Working in the summer time on an ice truck. Man it was the funky-est.. anybody ever

    heard. I think 73? What memories !

  • Hehehe Larry Graham made that bass line thats why you like it :)

    I like it too.

  • Remember on Dead Presidents when Larenz Tate's character walked in the club after being in Vietnam lol....this wat they played....he was coastin thru the club lol

  • Luv back then when the rythm of the song was out front and the band played on pace with that. That slick jazzy almost unheard hat holds the pocket so smooth on this without notice until SLY at 1:50 screams and riffs on the piano a little after. THIS is not a big concert orchestrated piece. RHCP 's version is extremely well done {not surprised em boys iz bad!} Sly was unstoppable then.

  • This makes for a great music in Dead Presidents when Anthony makes his first trip back to the bar since Vietnam.

  • Hahahaha.....doesn't Lil Wayne sound a bit like Sly? lol

  • @Kwaminho God I hope you're kidding : )

  • Im 21 and I play this for the girls my age and they love it!! They undress them self!!!

  • "im tho main" lol....sly was a smooth ass mutha- SHUT YO MOUTH!!!

  • THEY NEED TO BRING BACK THE FUNK...

  • WOW this too good for my ears lol thank god i found some good music

  • how are u comparing sly stones with rhcp?!?!?!, dudes.. theres no comparison to do... ii mean... HEAR this!!!, iam not saying that the rhcp version is worse, iam talking about hearing the basics.. nothing more, nothing less... srry bout my english, iam from argentina, i speak spanish

  • SOLID GOLD FUNK JAMMMMM !

  • This so much better than Lil Wayne!.. Just joking, I'm just sick of comments like that. Sly is Funky as funk.... that's mine

  • RHCP`S COVER IS WAYYY BETTER

  • Rustee Allen played the bass on this classic.

  • nice but, rhcp cover is fuckin' better XD

  • Damn!!!!!!! Jammmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • bahahah my friend made me listen to this song and its not the worst song ive ever heard, but its pretty far down there xD

  • Nothing beats Funk.

  • Moda dka this betta than shit we hear today!THUMPS UP

  • I love this song

  • cocains a hellava drug!
