@SuperLewisJames The idea is that he's getting more tan as he goes out into the desert. Some of the earlier drafts show that it was supposed to happen while he's in the desert watching the sun, but I suspect because the movie was so butchered that got lost so it's all unclear.

Maybe that was the point as he was so pale, he turned salmon pink after only a couple minutes in the desert? Still, I liked black and white better.
