I am a proud Catholic Christian, and I agree with you. The hijab is a beautiful form of devotion and a lovely way to promote humility, and modesty. One may say it is just a ritual but I think it takes a very strong and devoted soul to wear it regularly. I also suspect that the "ritual" changes the one who wears it unlike any other form of secular clothing. Lastly, I wished other faiths would wear it as well. Quran (24:31) - "And say to the believing women that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts and do not display their ornaments except what appears thereof, and let them wear their head-coverings over their bosoms, and not display their ornament...."
The Qura'n does not specifically mention the hair as Arabian women already covered their hair before Islam, but they did expose other parts, such as the chest. So this verse was revealed.
‘O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks ("Jalabib") veils all over their bodies that is most convenient that they should be known (as such) and not molested: and Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful."
I'm a man, I think I could never know how hard it is to wear a hijab in a European country, so I respect every proud Muslima who wears this piece of scarf!!!
