  • Loved it then love it still just brilliant

  • live life... live it well... to this song

  • This is the best version than rascal flatts

  • best version of life is a highway no doubt

  • beautiful song its fresh out da sea lets live a good life man!!!!!!

  • I know his daughter. She is my friend! i just found out

  • No Bad I Like it

  • Best version EVER! The original always is, n'est pas?

  • @ralphyization Oui bien sur!

  • GOOD MUSIC. Good old fashion music. Didnt need a remake. This song just gets to me every time, his voice , the guitair all of it.

  • why is Katie Perry a suggestion????

  • Chiddy Bang sampling/remix in t-minus 5...4...

  • Always great to hear the songwriter's version!

  • I do prefer the Rascal Flatts version, but I do still think this is a very very good song :) it makes me feel like I could do anything!

  • A perfect example of a spectacular song sung by an un-spectacular vocalist. Tom Cochrane is NOTHING to write home about. Does that mean Rascal Flatt's or Chris LeDoux's version is better? No, it just means he hit on a great melody and hook, not that he's an awesome artist. Because let's face it, he's not...

  • This song would be perfect by listening to this on route 66 in a Mustang

  • Typically, I'd dislike music like this, but there's sometimes you want to jam out to shitty country rock.

  • Why is there an ad for Beyonce on this vid?

  • Chubby Sean Penn...LOL... Hey just joking... Great song...!!!

  • I first heard the Rascal Flatts version, but this one is better. Much better.

  • @Rockmelter have you heard chris ledeoux version i think its the best

  • @clodge631992 It's cool, but this one stays my favourite :)

  • for u Sean Bailey, alias Irish Lover. This song is perfect 4 ya.....dmc

  • 2:03 giving roadhead and wipes face

  • @bushwhacked59 you mean the better version?

  • @dtgaffney1 If you mean by Tom Cochrane than yes

  • The non Rascal Flatts version!!!!

My best friend and I actually have a big problem with people who like the Rascal Flatts version better and an even bigger problem with people that say Rascal Flatts was the original artist of this song.

  • @bushwhacked59

    You too! Thank you

  • Comment removed

  • @bushwhacked59 Why do you have a problem with people that like the Rascal Flatts version better?

  • Did you know that Tom Cochrane was also the lead singer in Red Rider whose song Lunatic Fringe is also one of my favorites.....

  • EXCELENT.....this classic rock song makes me remember my childtime and THE LIFE IS A HIGHWAY !!

  • thank god somebody remade this song bc he sucks

  • @jakethesnake121394 Yeah, not like they still play THIS version today, it's a classic and will be remembered as such, not by Rascal or any of the other covers.

  • @jakethesnake121394 haha it's funny because you're mentally handicapped.

  • @jakethesnake121394 - You're nuts.

  • who else is here cause of michael scott? lol

  • @ri394 holy shit!! you got me

  • @ri394 I'm here because of my childhood

  • @ri394 noo

  • Honestly, The Rascal Flatts version is really good, It's excellent actually but this version will always be the best. But don't go saying that the other version sucks, Rascal Flatts are a pretty good band and they did a good job on this song, Just because another version isn't the original then don't say it sucks. I like both versions of this song and neither is bad in my opinion and thats the way it should be. Artists should always be flattered when their song is covered

  • Volume Is a little low... OK approval. :|

  • Classic rock rocks!

  • makes me angry that the original has less views than the rascall flatts version

  • @Kiwislaya amen!

  • @Kiwislaya Anyhow. got me started...Apologies...still passionate about music after 35 years in the business. All 3 versions of Life Is A Highway bring countless minutes of pleasure whether in traffic, at home ironing, out on the jetty at the end of a summers' day a cold beer, a mellow smoke.. and for every pair of ears there is a heart and within it one's very own scrapbook of meanings, significant moments, hemmed by the art form that like no other illuminates the darkest crevices of the heart.

  • @ThePdeHav the hell is wrong with u?

  • I think ThePdeHav got drunk yesterday...

  • This song will always be the theme song to 1991 for me, the year I was born :)

  • @FootballMania2009 i found this buy luck today i remmber first hereing this in 1985 lol

  • I'm looking up songs for my road trip in 2 hours. This is definitely going on my ipod. Good quality too so definitely worth a convert to MP3. Thanks man.

  • It's not the fact I like the modern version more because it's well, modern.

But it's a lot louder. That might just be this video though.

  • @SymphonyZero Look up the "loudness war".

  • Look rascalshitholes can never beat tom cochrane kapiesh? OK!

  • I actually heard this version before Rascal Flatts... LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • @xanaphuis With all due respect, this is not a "version", this is the original, that's why it's the best.

  • without rascal flatts doing a kick ass cover of this song, i don't think much people would have even heard of the original. tom cochrane's voice kinda sucks. especially in the verses. i had to stop myself from laughing because it sounds and looks like a joke. gary levox (the lead singer of rascal flatts) has the voice of a god. now i'd have to say that it takes a lot more talent to sing this song well as a cover than to write this song and sing it badly.

  • @jclmedb27 "The voice of a god?" Are you serious?! This rocks so much better than Rascal Flats ever could!

  • @jclmedb27 Tom Cochrane might not have the greatest voice, but at least there's no autotune like on the Racsal Flatts version. Gary Levox isn't godly in the least bit, he's average at best.

  • @DontShakeItUp Autotune is used a lot only because bare-vocals wouldn't suit like the majority of music. :|

  • @SymphonyZero You know there was music before autotune, and the vocals were just fine.

  • So much better then rascal flatts!

  • @nw1578 I agree...

  • Horrid is not a strong enough word to describe this song/video. Just saying.....

  • @MANHATTANBEEFMAN Go listen to Justin Bieber.

  • @ClamMaster2000x I have. He sucks. Moving on...

  • @Birdman123987 You suck.

  • I have adopted this as my motorbike tour theme tune....

Check out my video of my bike trip Europe 2011...this tune fits perfectly..

I have downloaded the album this is from....really catchy....

  • ++++++

  • Wow never realized he was wearing an Indian motorcycle jacket till now... I remember this video from back in the day..lol

  • I am glad I first saw Tom Cochrane's video, because I knew it was a great, great song that summed up my feelings for traveling on the road and for life. Yes, I saw Rascal Flatts perform this live, but it's not the same. Tom, the original is the best.

  • Geez that opening music ad is just awful

  • All the assholes saying Rascal Flatts ruined this song and their version isn't real music, go shove your heads' back up your hippster asses. They did a COVER of this song and you are mad that it got more recognition.. fair enough. But that doesn't make it bad. If you listen to it you might actually realise it's very similar to Tom's original and sounds decent.

  • haha CARS :)

  • this was on my junior police academy 2011 video.

  • why the heeeck wont vevo upload 720? thats unprofessional

  • @GuitarLuf I don't know if emimusic is Vevo. Is it?

  • @ShooobyBrah oh, yeah, that's true... But why is vevo everywhere? it's in the right corner and all over the background. What does it mean?

  • @GuitarLuf Not sure, I'm a bit confused too hahaha.

  • Life is a driveway. I want exhaust fumes alll niiight looong

  • Super song!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm still partial to Chris LeDoux's version.

  • Nobody can play it like Tom can!!!!!!

  • what's with all the covers are worse hurr durr on this video, they're different versions of the same song big deal. Also tom cochrane will get sizeable royalties for rascal flatts' version.

  • @SAJWProductions Nothing is different about Rascal Flatt's version except that they put more 'twang into the lyrics. If you're going to copy it, DO actually change it to make it your own. There is no point in covering a song in the same, exact way that it's already been recorded. (Adding 'twang doesn't count as "making it yer own", cowboy. So sorry.)

  • @brianab31 Rascal Flatt's version, from what I can hear, is sung in a different key than Tom's version. :-)

  • @NoInfringementIntent Sorry, but I do not feel that simply changing the key equates changing the song and making it your own. I need more.

Just as an example: Spiderbait's cover of "Black Betty" = significantly different than the original.

  • @brianab31 Absolutely nothin' wrong with that. :-) Everyone's entitled to their own opinions. I just felt the need to state what else was different from the original besides the twang.

  • @NoInfringementIntent they are actually both in the same key.

  • @bobsterfish Actually they aren't. :-) If you play them either by overlapping them or play one piece by Tom and the same piece by Rascal Flatts, you can tell the difference.

  • @NoInfringementIntent umm..which versions are you talking about?, both are In the key of F Major, get a guitar or piano and try it yourself. Unless you watched a version that was slightly sped up or something?

  • @bobsterfish Maybe I was thinking they were in a different key because Rascal Flatts' version sounds slightly different to Tom's; my apologies, apparently I was mistaken. :-)

  • @NoInfringementIntent No worries, i was just a bit confused by your comment that's all.

  • @bobsterfish Sorry about that; glad we got it straightened out, though! :-)

  • these are real people... wow, never seen before in music videos

  • One of the great driving songs of all time, thank you Tom, oh and BTW I heard this song on the sing off, but they were referencing some people called the rascal flats or something, who are they?

  • nvm it did

  • (what im about to say has nothing to do with the song) this song brought me to an ok ad and an amazing song

  • Rascal who? Who the f*** are those guys?

  • Tom Cochrane brough me here.

  • AMAZING! :) u r great.. jeep it up, and dont let any1 get 2 u. U r on ur way.

  • I'm only a teen, but this is the version I love. It's waaay better than the Rascal Flatts version.

  • song still makes me want to pull down top roll down windows let blonde hair blow and drive VERY FAST!:) lol via beachfront. lol lol

  • This is a excellent song.

  • I honestly like Rascal Flatts' voice more.

  • Rascal Flatts ruins things

  • Where Have I heard this before? By rasel Flatts this is 2 yrs after the orginal by rascell flatts

  • This is my song. I wish I wrote it.

This is what rock and roll is really about, freedom and the open road.

  • @MrMattRocker Yes, along with Rebel Rebel,Kashmir, Waterloo, Penny Lane, Changeling, /....etc etc the list evolves every few hours... Tom Cochrane wrote a killer song ( he's a damn fine writer )and I am not one for shiny polished productions but the RF version.

  • @ThePdeHav .man the way the singer dude times the chorus vocal,,,not to mention those harmonies...I know it's cool to back the original but like the RF version the single release was backed by a major label and the public voted by parting with their cash or taking the time to illegally downloading the RF version...

  • @ThePdeHav ife Is A HighWay is American Country Pop at its brightest best. Uts a bloody pop tunes and thus lends itself to a tight high production value sound. The song dictates it;s own terms...always...this isn;t a Bob Dylan or Woody Guthrie protest song or a small story of middle a America sung in verse; no this is poptastic pop. Nothing wrong with that, not at all. Met Tom when I was working my way up paying my dues at Little Mountain Studios - on E.8.St back in the day.

  • @ThePdeHav The Studio is now call Mountain Studios and the late great and sadly missed Bruce Fairburn moved it to the North Shore, Vancouver. If you can die leaving behind just one song that gave happiness to millions of ears and hearts you're doing well. So many producer / writers, even with a Grammy or Two leave little more than a few hundred co-writes; some chart and in many cases are forgotten for ever despite making money for the writers invovled

  • @ThePdeHav To have your peers cover your song twice and for people to debate the merits of a song released three times is hugely rewarding I hope for Tom. For me money is important but nothing is sweeter than peer approval, when Elton John or Tom Petty, John Lydon, who ever, and these arent references to my career; just been in the room when these guys have given sincere praise to a no lesser talent but one less known by the public. All of us at one time or another get to enjoy this reward.

  • @ThePdeHav Wishing you all a very Happy New Year. If you are hurting as a result of the current economic climate, write a song about how you feel and play it to your friends, Music performs many functions; it heels, bonds social groups, - big and small, school yard to Nation. More people are realising that it there is no shame in enjoying making music with friends no matter how badly or average the sound made. With only 700 producer / writers actually making a living right now; fame and the bull

  • @ThePdeHav is a flimsy motive for making a noise, For Every Gaga there was a hundred thousand ~Goo Goo Gagas. She ( co writes ) her own tunes and it tells on the second album - incidentally was recorded on tour - a brilliant economic model espoused by PRS - Homeless, on an Endless tour and record when you have the time, after you;ve found the time to write a decent song - few can write on the road - I can't for one. Music should be free and so should housing, designer clothes, drugs, food

  • rascal flatts version just came up on pandora. I immediately had to come here to hear the right one.

  • rascal who???? who listens to that???? i like real music.

  • Why are some of you dissing Rascal Flatts just cuz some people think their better? I don't see any comments saying they did a better version. The only thing Rascal Flatts did was revive this song. This song was released in 1991 which means people during that time might not have been into country songs. But since this version isn't recognized, at least it is now because of the Rascal Flatts. I bet some of you wannabe good guy gregs only found out about this version cuz of rascal flatts. peace out

  • @bobbie0415 finally a voice of reason

  • @bobbie0415 There are comments saying the Rascal Flatts version is better...

  • @Sareena123323 Well who cares about their opinions? The only opinions you should care about is yours and the ones who admire Tom Cochrane and his songs, seeing as we're commenting on his video.

  • Chris LeDoux's version is alot better

  • I had never heard this song until Cars. I listened to the Rascal Flatts version for a while but every time I heard this song on the radio it was THIS version. I grew to love it MORE than the cover song that I had heard first. Now my friend only listens to Rascal Flatts cover. I always tell him, "If it wasn't for the original, then that song wouldn't exist." Always give props to the originals. Without them, we'd have no covers, which are better or worse in some cases. In this case, it's AWESOME!

  • @Samdelay97 That's right! For me, I heard Tom's version first. So , anyone else is a cheap copy. This is a case, of the original ROCKS!

  • @ralphyization Agreed. :)

  • @Samdelay97 I totally agree with you. I love the original I knew the song before Rascal Flatts, but I also love the cover song version. So I guess its a win win situation

  • @3crockpot Exactly. There are many cases where I love the cover songs more than the originals and vice versa. In this case, I adore both, but I love Tom's the best. <3

  • one of the best songs that represents America written by one of the best Canadian musicians, irony much?

  • give me give me give me give me yeah !

  • ...old man pedo...

  • Proud to be Canadian.

  • Happy 20th anniversary! This must be a recent classic because this song STILL sounds great!

The original still rules over the Rascal Flatts version; theirs is too happy while Tom Cochrane sings the way he wrote it.

  • I have nothing against the song. In fact i love it, its the best one I've ever heard, but in Rascal Flatts' version. They ruined the song by making this video and Rascall Flatts' cover just covers up for the shame of this video.

  • Have no love for Canadians and this video sucks, however the song is fantastic and I've always had a soft spot for Tom.

  • @cantrememberchit- you have no love for Canadians but you have a soft spot for a Canadian. Wheres your logic and class?

  • This video is pathetic!!!! I didn't see anything good in it. Rascall Flattss' avershadows this piece of crap by like 1000000 times. Who listens to this kind of stuff? And what kind of an idiot directed this video?

  • @shoya72 just......just get out....now

  • @shoya72 im a nice person. i dont usually hate but fuck u

  • this guy needs to speak up

  • i just realized that this guy had the early version of the Bieber haircut lol.

  • I remember going on lots of road trips with my parents, back when I was a kid and always listening to this song :)

  • The fat man & the dwarf... beautiful imagery.

  • reaction: epic

  • Classic

  • There are two types of artists in the world; people who play music and those who write it; why mention rascal flatts on a beautiful piece of are like this. Tom is both a more charismatic singer, and has a better voice. Plus the music in the background beats anything flatts will ever record. Not to say rascal is bad, just not closely up to par with Tom. Let this music live forever!

  • @loccowierd LOL your ignorance is astounding.

  • @TeamAlecAmerica Look, kid, allow me to remind you that you are the one trolling me for simply supporting the artist of the video that I (and you) am presently watching. Plus I'm not creating any arguments by stating that I'm ignorant. Let's also take into consideration that you have "all time low" as the main video on your page, yet are criticizing music that you have no reason to criticize. If you don't like it don't listen to it and go listen to pop-punk. Have a good day.

  • @loccowierd I see what you did there, my child. Wow you checked my page? you must really care about this guy. Sorry, I'm not concerned with what's on my page, I favorited it because it was a good song, because I don't have bias. Good music is good music. I never said I didn't like the song, I think it's alright, but I simply like the Rascal Flatts version better. Have a nice Thanksgiving :)

  • I want it LOUDER!!!

  • 100 ppl got drived over when they tried to play at the harmonica at the highway.

  • rascal flatts version is way better

  • time machine! :D

  • This is the only version; have never heard Rascal Flatt's version.

    This is the original.

  • This is the only version; have never heard Rascal Flatt's version.

  • wow you people think this version is the original?! then look up Chris LeDoux he does the ORIGINAL version of this song not rascal flatts or tom cochrane. this is just a dumber version of it Chris LeDoux does the ORIGINAL version.

  • @razor12331, Um yeah:

"Life Is a Highway" is a song written by Tom Cochrane, from his 1991 album Mad Mad World. The song was Cochrane's most famous song, as it was a number one hit in his native Canada. The song also peaked at number six on the Billboard charts in the United States in 1992. The song has been famously covered by Rascal Flatts for the Cars soundtrack, as well as by Chris LeDoux and Jerry Jeff Walker.

  • @razor12331 Uh, no.... this song was released by Tom Cochrane (HINT: He also wrote it) in 1991. Chris LeDoux covered it in 1998.

  • @razor12331 The Internet can be your friend if you let it. It can provide you all sorts of information, such as who wrote and performed the original version of "Life is a Highway." Give it a shot.

  • @razor12331 get you facts straight written and performed by Tom Cochrane in 1991

  • NO ONE LIKES REVISED SONGS. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL!! GO BACK LISTENING TO THEM GAY JAPANESE KPOP GAY DUDES! YOU GAY FUCKS!!!!!

  • sorry but the rascal flatts version is 100% better , this guy cant sing for shit!

  • @JunkBinable rofl you know how old this is?

  • @JunkBinable rascal flatts have confessed to using autotune, just to let you know.

  • @JunkBinable You were proably born just right now, so dont say a FUCKING FUCK! about this song.. this is the original... the new sounds gay,,,, ugh

  • @JunkBinable sorry kid, you can insult anyone else but tom cochrane, if you say that he cant sing worth shit, then stay off this fucking video and go listen to the gay rascal flatts version, even though they confessed to using autotune,

  • @efjable i think that's hardly true. He's open to as much criticism as anyone else. This is a good version, but I like rascal flatts' cover better. if they used autotune, it was probably not very much, I've seen them perform this song live and it was great.

  • This ORIGINAL version will always be better than the Rascal FATs.

  • fucking pathetic that this video does not even have a million views and the rascal flatts version has 17 million. WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE? music is TRUELY lost that just proves it right there. the bands that do the covers dont even make a effort to show that they didnt write the song and just try to take all the credit and make money. ridiculous.

  • @MrKushandBongrips420 amen brother. amen.

  • @MrKushandBongrips420 AMEN!! Makes me wanna vomit every time I hear Rascal Flatt's version. PLUS, this version is a decade old and I still have to suffer through a damn commercial to hear it. WTF?

  • No auto tuning, a harmonica, great female backing vocals and no crappy chorus, the original... the best!

  • im sorry this fucking sucks he sounds to shy

  • @Mooseguy15 But at least he doesnt sound like a Rascal Queer, or should I say country-style-singin-auto-tuned-fag-Flatts?

  • @Mooseguy15 no, you sound like a FUCK!

  • @SuperGreenbone this song sucks
