Portugal had stifled England and Germany... that month Vidigal, Bento and Costinha were impossible to surpass... in this France only did something because of Zidane, and for me this was the game were one player made more difference in a big tournament ever since Maradona in 86! @987costa Zizou is one of the best ever, at 34 yrs old he crapped on the future WC champs Spain, Brazil who had Kaka, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho & Robinho! Then crapped on Portugal in the '06 world cup and justifiably was the player of the tournament.
Yes Scholes is a great player and does not crave the limelight, he reminds me of Andreas Iniesta another little genius who is also camera shy. But Ineista has achiieved more at 26 than Scholes or Zidane did. Still out of the 3 i wud say Zizou is best!

@987costa Scholes gets plenty of credit he doesn't get as much as Zidane obviously because Zidane is one of the greatest footballers of all time.
Zidane has not got as much credit I believe as players like Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo. They got far more credit from the english media than Zidane ever did. Yet neither of these players have appeared in a world cup final.
Despite Spains victory in the summer i still feel the world cup lacked someone of Zizous greatness!

Great video. Zidane and Figo both were exceptional in that match. Shame France won it with a penalty that never should have been. Would be cool to see all the stuff Figo done on the ball in that match compiled too.
