@EddyBergman Oh! I'm glad you liked it (again). It's been ages since I've watched my own videos. I'm annoyed at how YT messed with the quality on all of them during one of its upgrades. They look terrible now!
@zebidee55 Oh yeah, I never watch my own videos back. I feel too embarrassed =) Yeah the old videos have gone way back in quality. I deleted most of them from my channel(s). I am happy with the HD format though. It looks really awesome. I remember how everyone was against the widescreen player on youtube when it was first introduced, but I was all for it even then. Now no one would want to go back to the old one I think.
@EddyBergman yeah, I've set to private any of mine that had the sound muted, but I haven't done anything with the lower quality ones. I guess because I haven't done much with the channel recently, I haven't been paying that much attention to the old videos.
@zebidee55 Yeah, I haven't seen you around in my subscription box, I guess that's why I twittered you. To sort of poke you in the ribs and say 'Get yer camera out and make more videos!!' hahaha. Hey and if you find yourself in the north of germany (or even Holland) anywhere within a 100 kilometer range of Groningen then please give a shout. I still wanna meet up when we can!! I'm the only one that has never seen any of our little group of friends. :(
@EddyBergman oh definitely! I've been trapped in Germany this year due to my girlfriend's illness. We were supposed to be in Amsterdam in May, about a week after she was diagnosed, so all the plans for the year completely went on hold.
@zebidee55 Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't know she was ill at all. This has all gone by me because i was in that bloody clinic I guess. What's wrong then? Is she okay? (Better PM me the reply to this as it's none of other peoples business I guess)
um can u add me as a friend and watch my vid and whos eddie anyways i liked it alot so ima fav it 4 ya and subscribe so can u subscribe 2 my channel plz by jorda 171
Eddy is a good real life friend of mine in Holland. His username is EddyBergman.
Just letting you know, very few people will respond to sub requests here. The best way to get subscribers is by making videos people like. Do that and they'll find you. I did like your video by the way.
anyway I was at the War Memorial in Canberra Australia, And they have a Small Ataturk Head in the Darkest corner with Bird shit on it. and a paragraph of Info, In Turkey WE HAVE A FUCKING ANZAC WAR MEMORIAL CENTRE AND SHIT were is the respect
I totally agree with the sentiment, if not the way you put it. Ataturk is massively respected here as one of the greatest military and civilian leaders of the modern era, so in a way it surprises me that there's not more about him in the War Memorial itself.
No worries - a lot of us go there in school and don't really appreciate it until we go back as adults. Glad you liked it, and thanks for the favourite!
Thanks Curt - I forgot this would overlap with your studies a little. Glad you liked it.
The song was written from interviews with soldiers from the war and went to No. 1 in Australia. There was a recent remake by hiphop group The Herd. I still find the song incredibly moving.
Hey there! This is a great video, the music and footage go really well together. My friend/previous roommate is studying abroad in Canberra right now, how cool is that? :)
Oh cool Andrea! Wow - Canberra eh? Man, if I could choose where in Australia I was sent to study, it probably wouldn't be my first choice, but I guess the Unis there offer the best courses in International Relations and stuff.
Oh cool! I love the big American museums. If you ever get a chance to see the Smithsonian in Washington, allow at least a full day for just the Air & Space one. I haven't even attempted their other museums.
Thanks Kerstin. I know the subject matter isn't everyone's cup of tea, so I was hoping the song would provide some context. Yeah, the wall is very moving - the names just go on and on...
Yeah - that poster was kind of freaky. I really wanted to keep it in in editing.
The wall is a memorial with the names of every Australian killed in war. The shot you see is about a third of one wall, and there are two main walls (it's behind the archways in one of the opening shots). The flowers are paper poppies and are a symbol of remembrance. Families put them next to the names of loved ones who have been killed.
The poppies (specifically corn poppies) are used as a symbol of the end of war because they grew over the battlefields of Flanders in WWI. Poppies thrive in disturbed soil, and after the horrifying level of shelling had stopped, the churned up battlefields were carpeted with the red flowers - the red of the blooms replacing the red of the blood.
This is a very serious topic as your sidebar indicates. Many of us hold diametrically conflicting opinions on the subject of war and questions regarding its necessity. It is probably better if I keep mine views private.
Thanks for sharing. My knowledge of Australia is extremely limited, but I am aware of your nation's contributions to many war efforts: not the reasons but the sacrifices your youth made in these conflicts.
David - I have no problem at all with you having a different opinion on a subject, especially one as important as this. I welcome a differing point of view, and if you look at my channel you will see a playlist for Polyphonicircle, a discussion group formed by ThreeofThree specifically to open up debate on different subjects. I will absolutely back your right to your own opinions.
As for me, I can see the times when war is necessary and I would argue strongly for a solid defence force. I am proud of what Australia has done and continues to do around the world.
I come from a multi-generation military family, so in a way, warfare has fed and clothed me, given me opportunities to see the world and made me the person I am today. It would be naïve of me to think that I had not personally benefitted from conflict.
That said, I find the process of it infinitely sad.
Thanks Rich! Yeah, it is a great museum and well supported by the public with donations of any military memorabilia they have. They also have extensive photo libraries and other history online, so people can look up photos of relatives during various wars.
Not being Austrailian, I didn't recognize the song but we have similiar song in the USA dealing with war and age 19. (Search YouTube for Paul Hardcastle 19) Nicely done video, my friend from "Down Under". :) 5/5
Ah, thanks for that - I knew the song but hadn't heard it for years. It's hard to fathom just how young these people were. I've heard a similar statistic that the average age of the crew on an Aircraft Carrier is 19.
Thanks Jordan. I kept this deliberately shorter than it could have been because it's easy to get bored with stuff if you're not specifically interested in the topic, so thanks for saying.
Wauw Michael, that was a beautiful video. What an interesting place. I could spend hours there. So much to see. And all those airplanes. Heaven. It's more like a museum then a warmemorial but I guess it has to be, to show all the different conflicts that Australia was involved in. Thanks so much to make the detour to film this for me. That was so thoughtful ^_^
I'm so glad you liked it. Yeah, even though I've been there many times and this visit was just to film, I still wandered around for several hours. There is roughly twice this much raw footage which I may upload as a private video for you.

Cool video thank you for sharing. It takes a noble person to say what Ataturk said after the war. I have seen the movie "Gallipoli", great movie.

I totally agree with what you say about Ataturk. His attitude is a shining example of how leaders should regard war.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.
- In Flanders Fields, by John McCrae
