Question: Do you know if you have to play for the games? Will they all be free or will some be free and others you have to pay for or do you have to pay for all of them? Also, any idea how much? Thanks
How good is the battery? I'm pretty sure I want this but I DESPISE short battery life. Ironically, the short battery on my 3DS doesn't bother me(probably the charge cradle that fixes this).
you and ashens should team up it would would be shakesperian in badassery and magnitude and yes i know you live in different countries but you sounds like a sarcastic horse and he sounds like a friggin office worker zombie killer whom likes to hide in a pub IT MUST BE DONE!
what I want to know is how will this compare to the PSP? Will it be as powerful? Also is there any point of buying this (other than it doubling up as a phone) rather than just waiting for the NGP?
@Skyrift lol angry birds xD. Download modern combat and N.O.V.A. much better :O the Will add a game Thats calld backstab its a Clone of assasins creed.

@legoHALOcreater9 you fuk tard its a fuking phone with psp buttons ... u just download the games online fuk .. i hate stupid people like u . GOD!!!!!!
omg look at the the short ways of saying this phone: playstation phone psp xperia play xp playstation xperia omg psp is another thing xp is a computer that sucks and psx is a japanese ps2
If you look at the most phones showcased at MWC, you'll know, that this phone is already outdated because of the old single core processor and old adreno 205 GPU. And about the name, I think, they didn't name it "playstation phone", because they fear market cannibalization between xperia play and psp ngp. Anyways I'd like to see how usable the analog sticks are.
i'd like to know: data plan charges? Online game play on a ps network? Ability to watch television : hulu, netflix, etc.? ability to keep an online file of downloaded games? ability to access ps3 remotely? comfortable feel in hands for both gameplay and phone calls? web browsing speed? texting speed, and ease of use? usb port? port for connecting to the television/ps3?
Personally I just want you to pick at everydetail, hows the design, does it feel good in your hands, could you stand to hold it a certain way for more then an hour with no difficulty's, how does the screen work is the battery life any good at all, more importantly its switch times, playing a game, and bam you need to set an alarm for a meeting, how fast is that switch to phone mode to game mode. That is what I would like to see.
wow that seems awsome i cant wait to see when you actually do the review hands on, i love your videos, the thing i wonder the most is launch titles that will be released with the phone
Not because i'm a fanboy or anything, but let's face it, who wants a phone combined with a console? i mean, what will happens if you run out of battery because of playing you have no phone.
And also Nintendo only dominates the Handle Consoles, the House Consoles they always end in second place.
Blunty, i buy consoles for games, graphics and multimedia is something apart, i want Sony to think something else than graphics and multimedia, i want games.
just saying. Android doesn't give random dessert names to their OS versions, it's according to alphabetical order and named after desserts (obviously). You noticed that the first versions were named (although rarely) Bagel, Cupcake, Donut, Eclair and FROzen YOghurt. Now they have Gingerbread. Love your videos Blunty! Been watching since you talked about Halo 2 xD
hi blunty I bought a psp go and have a decent collection of games bought off of psn am i able to transfer my psp games or do i have to use android games??? cool vids mate XD
All I can think about is the poor title on this video. Bugs the heck outa me. ;P You put preview, so that led me to think you had the device and were showing it to us as a preview before the release and real review, but this was a preview to a preview so we can see the device previewed and then reviewed after the preview.
Now if you aren't already putting a WTF reply in the comments. Have a cookie. :)
This looks excellent, cheers for the preview Blunty!, Definatley excited to see the gameplay controller, theres nothing worse than the touch analog play, I imagine with more effort going into the games is going to command quite a higher price tho, which is to be expected, guess we'll know closer to the time.
So maybe I'm just being somewhat close minded about it all but whats the point of buying the phone to played full on games when sony already has the PSP(and soon the NGP/PSP2) as a portable gaming system. I guess a phone is somewhat easier or more conventional to carry around but your mainly buying it for gaming function then the PSP just seems like a better way to go. Plus now I can just see alot of sony exclusive titles appearing on this unnecessary device rather than PSP.. which annoys me.
How well does the "controller" type part of the phone feel in your hands? is it flimsy, weak? Like its made of cheap plastic or what? Wouldn't mind knowing, I hate things that feel to plastic and flimsy. (:
That pad is perfect for SNES games... If you can run some kind of emulator off of it. Other than that, I honestly cannot wait to see what kind of games it will pull off!
So this is a pre-preview, I suppose it's tweaked my curiosity but the wait will be interminable! Might even forget about it! Erm, cheers of a sorts! Lol
@CygnusX1981 "looks like a device that will help to redefine the mobile gaming experience" .... dude.... you sound like a press release.... one that was written by a hack ;P
@Blunty3000 Haha yea I know man, I am just really tired of angry birds and a lot of the other lame mobile games that are out there, so tired of them that I don't even play them. If this device is as awesome as promised, I want to certainly give it a chance!
The videos i can find on this phone don't show many/ if any features of the phone its self. Its all targeted at the gaming part of the phone... which isn't its only function :( Im from the UK and when you make a video on this product i hope theres equal focus on the phone part as well as the gaming part. Also any news on the Playstation tablet and Iphone 5?
for a start, i havent bought a new phone in about 3 years. i dont buy a phone for games, internet or for the camera i use my phone to txt and make calls but if there is a deacent library of games and it doesent drain my bank account i will definitly be getting one because it looks freaking sweet.
When the phone launches will I be able to put games that I've purchased digitally for the original PSP on it, or is it a completely different entity with no backwards compatibility?
My current plan finishes around August, so I'm starting to look around for a new phone. This is going to be pretty fucking high up on my list, as a first impression it looks SWEET. What i'd like to know about includes (closer to release) pricing, and how sturdy it is, as it's going to have to last me two years.
what i wanna know is r they gonna bring out psp games to the phone or be able to download them similar to how the pspGO was cause it would be pretty cool to play god of war on the the xperia .
If Sony is smart, they will offer this in a contract subsidized version around usd $150-200 at multiple carriers besides just Verizon. Get this thing into the hands of as many ppl as possible not do the typical Ericsson thing and sell the Persia for $700 unlocked only.
In my opinion, having dedicated controls for games is the single most useful thing they have thought of.
Blunty, you have pointed out all the horrid thing's that I think when I rarely play games on my iphone 3GS, the simply do not work.
Perhaps this will spark apple or even a third party producer to create a controller that plugs into the iphone or works via blue-tooth for dedicated controls.
The PSP phone would be far more successful if it used the UMD discs again though: cont:
because having to buy games online and download them to your devices restricts the user in so many ways.
for example, the games will need to be purchased via online payment of paypal or a visa debit/credit card.
so the kids/people who dont even have bank account's will miss out.
Each game will be huge in file-size and depending on how big the onboard memory is, I suspect that the phone will only have enough room for about 3 games, 1 song and 2 pictures.
plus they will have to be downloaded to the phone before playing which is the worst idea of all.
you would have to be in a wifi area to download a game which will take quite a while , but if your not in a wifi area then youll either use up your mobile data usage, or you just wont be able to get it.
A phone/ gaming device of this caliber should not be so restrictive, its supposed to be easy to obtain, easy to buy for and should work straight away.
I'm interested in knowing what happens when you are in the midst of playing a game and you get a phone call, does it ring, vibrate or simply have a little pop up. Also does it continue to run the games in the background, will it pause for me or will progress be lost, and lastly how does it effect batter life using both games and phone.
IMO Im happy with my iphone....yeah iv got a ps3 and it would be great to have more powerful games but I have dead space and NOVA and shadow guardian to play on my iphone so im very happy. Its cool but I dont think it will be worth the price for me as of yet....
Will there be any games worth playing on it? How will we get the games will it be downloaded or UMD disks or cartridges? I would prefer some form of physical presence when I play a game so I don't have to screw around with unreliable and expensive Wi-fy downloads. I hardly play my PSP now because of the complete lack of good games for it. The only ones I bought were the Star Wars ones. Battle front just kept getting worse and worse. Force Unleashed was ok but not as good as the console versions.
Can the battery be replaced easily? How will games be distributed? Is it PSP backwards compatible? (Like I bought ff7 for psp/ps3, will that work?) Thanks.
Hi, I would like to know if the xperia play or psp phone will play what games? High end games design for smart phones? standard psp games? or share a new library of games with the upcoming ngp. Thanks in advance, really like your videos!
@ashekist1 According to sony, they will be introducing psp gaming to other android phones with gingerbread firmware as well. So i think it might be a point to take note.
I'm expecting it to be incredibly expensive just like everything else Sony makes. for example when the PS3 first came out $600 I am also expecting the same for the NGP which is why (unless they're both under $325) I won't be purchasing one. That is unless I win the lottery of course. lol
I'd like to know about how the actual functioning of the phone is. I'm not about to get excited and buy something like this saying, "it's a game console and a phone!" And then a realize it's had hardly any work put into the phone, making it basically a small PSP. That would piss me off.
My question Is how will ur signal bars work or how do u get signal for texting or calling ppl with out wi-fi and I would really hate it if it was used like a track phone;( (paying)
@For a start you won't block the screen of the game you're actually playing, secondly they appear to have little "rims" around them and a tactile center point so you won't have to keep looking to make sure your thumb is in the right spot as you do with the on-screen attempts at this kind of control, thirdly, they'll be specifically designed and calibrated to be controllers for your thumbs. You see, it's quite different, and superior in every way.
i want to know how much they are selling it for and how much it cost to make..im getting a sneaking suspicion that sony are undercutting what they put into these and are looking alot like they are going to become the next sega
I have a sony erricson and a psp right now and i really like them both, infact i couldn't imagine life without them. Now if they combined both of those together and some how screw it up i will find the president of sony and rant to him for the rest of our lives about screwing shit up
perhaps a silly question, but will there be a way to pause a game - use the phone to do whatever - and then re-enter the game where you paused it (without having to reload the entire game I mean). It's just a practical thing, are we going to have to save and exit, then quickly call someone we forgot earlier to call, then re-load the game up again? So yes "minimizing" the game will be useful.
It still isn't enough 4 me... i will wait for the new psp vita...

When the phone launches will I be able to put games that I've purchased digitally for the original PSP on it, or is it a completely different entity with no backwards compatibility?

You know, if you abbreviate "Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY", you get "SEX PLAY".
That make the name sound more appealing, doesn't it?

My current plan finishes around August, so I'm starting to look around for a new phone. This is going to be pretty fucking high up on my list, as a first impression it looks SWEET. What i'd like to know about includes (closer to release) pricing, and how sturdy it is, as it's going to have to last me two years.

what i wanna know is r they gonna bring out psp games to the phone or be able to download them similar to how the pspGO was cause it would be pretty cool to play god of war on the the xperia .

Oh! Forgot to ask a question:
What's the battery life like if you just use the smartphone features?
'cos the main reason I don't have a smartphone is 'cos they die in a few hours, as opposed to my stone-age phone that lasts 3 days.

I concur. Xperia Play is a dumb name.

Xperia not Persia. Darned autocorrect.
gatsu08106 1 year ago

@DJignyte :cont :
because having to buy games online and download them to your devices restricts the user in so many ways.
for example, the games will need to be purchased via online payment of paypal or a visa debit/credit card.
so the kids/people who dont even have bank account's will miss out.
Each game will be huge in file-size and depending on how big the onboard memory is, I suspect that the phone will only have enough room for about 3 games, 1 song and 2 pictures.
plus they will :cont :
DJignyte 1 year ago
@DJignyte :cont :
plus they will have to be downloaded to the phone before playing which is the worst idea of all.
you would have to be in a wifi area to download a game which will take quite a while , but if your not in a wifi area then youll either use up your mobile data usage, or you just wont be able to get it.
A phone/ gaming device of this caliber should not be so restrictive, its supposed to be easy to obtain, easy to buy for and should work straight away.

Would it be possible to install (or hack it to) use old PS games? how compatible would it be with psp games/playstation 1 games/playstation 2 games

They probably didn't call it the PlayStation Phone because than it would have been abbreviated the PSP

Its cool but I dont think it will be worth the price for me as of yet....
swerob00 1 year ago
Will there be any games worth playing on it? How will we get the games will it be downloaded or UMD disks or cartridges? I would prefer some form of physical presence when I play a game so I don't have to screw around with unreliable and expensive Wi-fy downloads. I hardly play my PSP now because of the complete lack of good games for it. The only ones I bought were the Star Wars ones. Battle front just kept getting worse and worse. Force Unleashed was ok but not as good as the console versions.

That would piss me off.

if the sticks is still a touch pad.. how is that different from sticks on a screen?
Digger318 1 year ago
@Digger318 your thumbs wont block the screen.
machstarfox 1 year ago
@machstarfox but will it feel natural like a real stick?
Digger318 1 year ago
@For a start you won't block the screen of the game you're actually playing, secondly they appear to have little "rims" around them and a tactile center point so you won't have to keep looking to make sure your thumb is in the right spot as you do with the on-screen attempts at this kind of control, thirdly, they'll be specifically designed and calibrated to be controllers for your thumbs. You see, it's quite different, and superior in every way.

I have a sony erricson and a psp right now and i really like them both, infact i couldn't imagine life without them. Now if they combined both of those together and some how screw it up i will find the president of sony and rant to him for the rest of our lives about screwing shit up
1jathavan 1 year ago
perhaps a silly question, but will there be a way to pause a game - use the phone to do whatever - and then re-enter the game where you paused it (without having to reload the entire game I mean). It's just a practical thing, are we going to have to save and exit, then quickly call someone we forgot earlier to call, then re-load the game up again? So yes "minimizing" the game will be useful.
