  • College degrees are worthless in this country. These companies rather hire someone with experience before they hire a person with a degree. College education equates to more money compensation from companies. Companies are trying to save money.

  • haha did you see that dog!

  • I hope I'm not sounding harsh, Cocoangel1. All we're saying is that there are forces at work that make life difficult or impossible in some cases for one to reach one's goal. The youth that are struggling are doing whatever they can to just survive in a society that could basically care less about their livelihood.

  • To Cocoangel1...There are people, a lot of people, who are doing their best to change things and uplifting the youth...As far as the young 12-year old boy is concerned it is sad to hear him say that, but one needs to consider why he or any other kid would think that way, and use that information to help them. We can't simply compare and contrast other people's successes and failures with our own because not everyone came from a positive environment.

  • To Cocoangel1...It's not only about blaming the "man". It's about a lot more. It's about the education system being full of holes and faults it's ridiculous. It's about living in a society where no matter how many degrees, credentials, or money you have, if you are a person of color, you are STILL considered the looked upon with suspicion and hatred. It's about knowing that you or your history means very little or have no value in a white dominated society.

  • This is a two part problem: the educational system and the parents and community. They are not showing kids the right path and parents are not involved, not interested and aren't helping kids to improve. Instead we are all standing around complaining and pointing the finger.

Kids are sent out on a boat with no paddles, Just a damn shame!

I tell my nieces and nephew all the time "Just get that piece of paper ( BA,BS, MS, PhD) so you can get your hustle on and do whatever you want to do!"

  • One very good example: " A young boy abandoned by his mother, father is an alcoholic, that me and my cousin have kind of adopted. I asked him what he wanted to be when he grows up.

The boy replied: " I want to be doctor and lawyer but if I get a girl pregnant then I will work and then finish college."

Now how warped is this, to have a boy at age 12 who is already talking about having kids before finishing junior high school, going to college and having a career.

  • Me and other educated, successful American minorities need to help younger kids.

It is a huge struggle to get through to today's youth even at very young ages. Their parents, siblings and peers do not take the time to invest in the education of their kids for their future.

  • Hey Supreme,

Okay I understand what you are saying but when are we as the "oppressed" people going to stop blaming the man, government and our past for our problems that we have today. I hate to be like Clarence Thomas and say "pull yourself up by your bootstraps", but no one is going to give us the knowledge and success. If you want it, you have to step up and take it! We need to teach kids how to fight with their minds and that failure is okay and to not be discouraged.

  • @cocoangel1, I dont the point of this video was to place blame on "the man". Point blank...ALL factors(external and internal) have to be examined when discussing whats wrong with todays youth. Not only what they "put out" has to be improved....but so does "what goes in". No human being is an island and asking someone to :"pull themselves up by the boot strap" in todays real world is less than genuine.

If we want the youth to do better...we must teach them better(with or with out schools)

  • @VallaeBoy Exactly, that is how I feel. And as far as the bootstraps: My mother hates that phrase lol. We have so much opportunity and access to education is everywhere. The kids nowadays have no excuses for not succeeding! I'm not saying you have to do it alone..the job market, business and global trade is way too competitive to be waiting for a sunny day!

Bottom line: Either we teach our kids to compete intellectually, watch their finances and gain some skills or we will be left behind.
