@doriwiljt Peter had already quit the band when they performed on this show. Peter always seemed like the happy go lucky kind of guy but he was the hardest one to get along with... even more than Mike!
haha i recorded it on my phone and now its my ringtone hehe! everytime my friends call i never answer cause I always want to listen to it and then i start craxking up laughing!
I don't believe this bit is from the Glen Campbell show. Dolenz's hair was way different than on when they performed the hits medley and "Tear Drop City." I could see his hair being changed around for this skit but it seems like they would've changed Mike's and Davy's hair styles around as well. Regardless, a funny bit from whatever show it came from.
It said on the DVD that this clip was from the Glen Campbell show. I guess the makeup people decided not to change Mike or Davy's hair styles around...the could've slicked Davy's hair back maybe...
The Monkees had a comedy skit on the Glen Campbell show, but the skit centered on how they had actually been around as a group since the 50s. This bit could've been another skit that didn't make the final print. However, the Monkees did some other TV shows in '69, so the skit could be from one of those shows, in particular an ABC show called "Turn On" which was infamous for having been cancelled after only one episode.
Add to the above: I'm not sure as to whether the Monkees had already filmed their guest appearance for the show "Turn On." I've heard the show filmed their appearance prior to the show's debut and before the show was cancelled. The show's main character was a computer that cracked the jokes and intro'd the guest stars, sort of a computerized "Laugh In." Little wonder the show bombed in the ratings!
@SLCPunker101 What are you and Skippy talking about??? Mike looks like he's having a blast putting on a serious character. Look at him exagerating the seriousness of what he's doing. He knows he's being funny.
@msbfd Hey.... I AM a bass player and I do a lot more than just stand around next to an amp unmoving. I'm wireless and run all over the place not to mention that I have a hard time standing still while I'm playing anyway.
Its actually called DTMF (dual tone milti frequency) designed to allow telephone signalling over wireless links. When it reached the telephone exchange, it was decoded so the analog switching equipment could translate the tones to pulses to find the called parties exchange. Today, nearly all exchange utilize digital switches so its no longer necessary to go through this translation.
I think this was after he quit. They made this hilarious, but weird movie called 33 and 1/3 Revolution per monkee and Peter quit like a day after that was made.
I think this was after he quit. They made this hilarious, but weird movie called 33 and 1/3 Revolution per monkee and Peter quit like a day after that was made.
The Movie was called 'Head' and yeah, it was weird. 33 1/3 RPM was a tv special done at the end of '68 and Peter quit after that. NBC liked the special so much they put it on opposite the Academy Awards! The special tanked, and that was pretty much it for the Monkees.
Peter quit the group in late 68/early 69. The rest carried on until early 70 when Mike also quit and for the rest of the year, Davy and Micky performed as a duo! No kidding, the last Monkees album before the 80s reunion was called "Changes," and it featured just the two of 'em...
That is hilarious. Not only were The Monkees pioneers of music videos but apparently they were also pioneers of electronic music. Take that, Kraftwerk! ;)
