  • if i had a phone like that i would do the same thing

  • Funny love it

  • Micky's just Awsome that's why.

  • where is peter?

  • @doriwiljt Peter had already quit the band when they performed on this show. Peter always seemed like the happy go lucky kind of guy but he was the hardest one to get along with... even more than Mike!

  • That's what you had to dial to get an outside line back then, huh?

  • I think Mike is just trying to adopt a serious-musician demeanor. Mickey actually looks a bit like Beethoven with his hair like that.

  • FUNNY AS SHIT!hahahahahahaahahahahahahahaahaha.....

  • What machine is that they are using? I've never seen one before. HA!

  • Haha, Mike swipes his hair back at the end like that was such exhausting work XD

  • See, they DID play their own instruments!

  • they are CRAZY!!! LOL! I lovem!

  • This is how Mike Nesmith's mother was inspired to invent white out!

  • @bcrkris Not Write Out, Liquid Paper!

  • @ThePaddyjoejr1 Wtf its the same thing

  • haha i recorded it on my phone and now its my ringtone hehe! everytime my friends call i never answer cause I always want to listen to it and then i start craxking up laughing!

  • beep beep guys!! outstanding contribution to pop music goes to......the monkees!!!!!

  • So funny!

  • Why did Mickey have such a flat face?

  • Mike isn't really playing, his receiver is still on the cradle.

  • And you think the other two ARE playing? LOL!

  • Pretty phoney if you ask me!

  • Pretty phoney indeed . . . Goulardifan . . .heh-heh-heh

  • See?! Who said they didn't play their own instruments? Wait! The touch tone is taped, isn't it?

  • Peter left to start a band called Release.

  • Wheres PETER?????

  • i think this was followed by donnie an marie years later

  • OMG that is the most hilarious fuckin thing :)

Plus the guys look hot as hell :)

  • ...and everyone said they couldn't play their own instruments, lol.

  • aw Micky has the biggest smile.

  • I love Micky's smile

  • Nice to find someone else who does ^-^

  • thanks

  • This is like Jerry Lewis's typewriter skit.

  • I don't believe this bit is from the Glen Campbell show. Dolenz's hair was way different than on when they performed the hits medley and "Tear Drop City." I could see his hair being changed around for this skit but it seems like they would've changed Mike's and Davy's hair styles around as well. Regardless, a funny bit from whatever show it came from.

  • It said on the DVD that this clip was from the Glen Campbell show. I guess the makeup people decided not to change Mike or Davy's hair styles around...the could've slicked Davy's hair back maybe...

  • The Monkees had a comedy skit on the Glen Campbell show, but the skit centered on how they had actually been around as a group since the 50s. This bit could've been another skit that didn't make the final print. However, the Monkees did some other TV shows in '69, so the skit could be from one of those shows, in particular an ABC show called "Turn On" which was infamous for having been cancelled after only one episode.

  • Add to the above: I'm not sure as to whether the Monkees had already filmed their guest appearance for the show "Turn On." I've heard the show filmed their appearance prior to the show's debut and before the show was cancelled. The show's main character was a computer that cracked the jokes and intro'd the guest stars, sort of a computerized "Laugh In." Little wonder the show bombed in the ratings!

  • Yeah, you can tell The Monkees' heart wasn't in it to do this skit.

  • They seemed to have run out of good ideas at this point.

  • Silliness lol...classic Monkee silliness *thumbs up*

  • Is it just me or is Mike the only person who can look that serious while playing with a phone?

  • It probably because he'd had enough of the silliness.

  • Micky looks like he;s having fun, Mike looks bummed out.

  • I think Mick could have fun doing just about anything. Mike's too cool for the silliness.

  • I agree with you.

  • @Skippygddss Mickey's just a better actor.

  • @SLCPunker101 What are you and Skippy talking about??? Mike looks like he's having a blast putting on a serious character. Look at him exagerating the seriousness of what he's doing. He knows he's being funny.

  • @DavidTyler1

Yep. He looks like he's playing the "bass player" role - you know, stand there next to your amp unmoving, watching the carnage.

  • @msbfd Hey.... I AM a bass player and I do a lot more than just stand around next to an amp unmoving. I'm wireless and run all over the place not to mention that I have a hard time standing still while I'm playing anyway.

  • @DavidTyler1

well, he means the cool john entwistle kind of bass player.

  • I think Mike was putting on this oh-so-serious act for the skit. :)

  • lol, Is it just me, or is Micky really getting into this?

  • Hence the reason they were called Monkees! Funny Ass CLip!

  • Its actually called DTMF (dual tone milti frequency) designed to allow telephone signalling over wireless links. When it reached the telephone exchange, it was decoded so the analog switching equipment could translate the tones to pulses to find the called parties exchange. Today, nearly all exchange utilize digital switches so its no longer necessary to go through this translation.

  • America was way ahead of the rest of the world, telephone-wise... in England, we didn't get touch tone until about 1988.

  • ER - PETE WAS ON THE PHONE

  • This is great! But... where's Peter?

  • He was off with the hippies, man.

  • I think this was after he quit. They made this hilarious, but weird movie called 33 and 1/3 Revolution per monkee and Peter quit like a day after that was made.

  • I think this was after he quit. They made this hilarious, but weird movie called 33 and 1/3 Revolution per monkee and Peter quit like a day after that was made.

  • The Movie was called 'Head' and yeah, it was weird. 33 1/3 RPM was a tv special done at the end of '68 and Peter quit after that. NBC liked the special so much they put it on opposite the Academy Awards! The special tanked, and that was pretty much it for the Monkees.

  • This is hilarious & cool!

  • where is Peter? too early for him to be doing his prison stint.

  • Peter quit the group in late 68/early 69. The rest carried on until early 70 when Mike also quit and for the rest of the year, Davy and Micky performed as a duo! No kidding, the last Monkees album before the 80s reunion was called "Changes," and it featured just the two of 'em...

  • ahh the good ol days

  • That is hilarious. Not only were The Monkees pioneers of music videos but apparently they were also pioneers of electronic music. Take that, Kraftwerk! ;)

  • Reminds me of 'The Push Button Telephone Song Book'.

Wonder if you can still get it?

    Great clip!

  • Mosy families did not have push button service until years later.

  • LOL -- LOL -- This is just too cool! I love the clip! Beautiful music boys -- just beautiful! (they should be in the Telephone Hall Of Fame -- lol)

  • drugs were free then?

  • See - they did play their own music!

  • LMAO

  • LOL!!

  • Uh... wow.
