The main reason Signe Anderson left was to raise her daughter. If she hadn't left the Airplane probably would have remained a folky band rather than go into the psychedelic direction they went in when Grace arrived.

Check out the Zephyr album Sunset Ride from 1972 with Tommy Bolin (RIP) and Candi Givens (RIP). Best version that I've heard. Many other great tunes.

@chloewalker8089 Nope, this is Signe Toly Anderson, the Airplane's first female singer. Signe left the group shortly after recording their first album AND giving birth to her first child. She then returned to the Pacific Northwest with her husband and daughter; Signe was quite active in the Portland musical scene for some years:). Grace, who was then with The Great Society, joined the Airplane at Jack Casady's specific request, although the other members certainly concurred:) ---

"High-Flying Bird" originally came from their first album, "Jefferson Airplane Takes Off", the pre-Grace Slick album (Signe Anderson on vocals). "Takes Off" and "Surrealistic Pillow" were my two favorites.
