@maddadram1 I love the Zephyr version. It's so rare though! And Mom won't let go of her album D: I need to find a copy of their Sunset Rides CD. Airplane, rocks, too. I'm trying to find who wrote the song...not much out there on it. Odd.
I should warn everyone (who didn't know) but this song wasn't the sole reason for Noel's new stuff. Fleetwood Mac played a part becuase while listening to Peter Green's band they made him wonder Noel Gallagher's... blah blah blah could work.
The main reason Signe Anderson left was to raise her daughter. If she hadn't left the Airplane probably would have remained a folky band rather than go into the psychedelic direction they went in when Grace arrived.
Agree that everyone should check out the Zephyr version. However, Tommy Bolin had left the group at that point. Jock Bartley was the guitarist on that album.
@chloewalker8089 Nope, this is Signe Toly Anderson, the Airplane's first female singer. Signe left the group shortly after recording their first album AND giving birth to her first child. She then returned to the Pacific Northwest with her husband and daughter; Signe was quite active in the Portland musical scene for some years:). Grace, who was then with The Great Society, joined the Airplane at Jack Casady's specific request, although the other members certainly concurred:) ---
"High-Flying Bird" originally came from their first album, "Jefferson Airplane Takes Off", the pre-Grace Slick album (Signe Anderson on vocals). "Takes Off" and "Surrealistic Pillow" were my two favorites.
Fabulous song and voice !!! Marvellous and exciting Toly Anderson !! incredible song !!! One day, I will be this bird and flying for ver and ever in the sky !!!!!
@KODIbassplayer Well according to my actual LPs the version I have of High Flyin' Bird is on the EARLY FLIGHT album and it's Signe not Grace..Please check it out!
@somomjavorejesus I thought it didnt come out `til later.I just read an Airplane bio last week,I dont think FlyingBird came out late in the carrer of JA

Signe Toly Anderson performs here probably. But I feel to point out that Grace Slick was really outstanding singing this song at Monterey pop.

I totally agree. The clip of this song at Monterey is still one of my all time favorites...ever!

Nope, that's not Grace. She joined later and did the song at monterey pop festival. I was glad to find this one because it is somewhat of a rarity.
