The department issued Taser X26 have an on & off switch. Trained officers would have it in the off position while holstered in the opposite side of the belt & would require it to be turned on before using it. The issued P226 pistol would be in safety position which would require that to be off safety before firing. Any officer would realize what device he had immediately when disabling safety or turning on the taser since it also has a light & laser.

i'm from Greece and we had huge riots back about 8-9 months ago in Athens for a cop that shot a teen. the city was turned upside down with at times violent but more peaceful protests. that cop is in jail waiting trial to prove his innocense. cops get away with too much in the states and use the oh safety excuse when something goes wrong on their end. I don't buy the taser argument either. Like you said...they are purposely put on different sides of the belt. Also, in every video where I've seen someone getting tasered (which are hilarious by the way) the officer lets his partners know a taser is being deployed. I'm pretty new to the Bay Area & I noticed a lot of cops here walk around with a big chip on their shoulder. I remember my in Cupertino on Thanksgiving day I went to the video store & was leaving during dusk & as I was pulling out I forgot to turn on my lights but I did it myself a minute later. Cops then pull me over, one standing behind with his gun drawn while my kids are in the back. I was shocked. And they gave me a ticket for $140 dollars. Thats when my view on police changed alot.

genrally, officers carry there tasers on the oppiset side of there side arm. taser grips are wider, and are marked with red or orange on the butt and barrel to distinguish them in an emergancy. Officer yohan messerly should face the same charges as anyone else. I'm sure hed like to think, and will arguee it was an accident, but the video proves otherwise. also conviscating video evidance and trying to cover up the truth further incrimenates all the fellow officers as accessories after the fact.
They admit taking videos as evidence....I might believe "cover-up" if they did not admit that they took them. What's to cover up? They know that everyone and their mother was holding a camera up to them during the whole incident...as you can clearly see in the videos! I don't buy the taser argument either. Like you said...they are purposely put on different sides of the belt. Also, in every video where I've seen someone getting tasered (which are hilarious by the way) the officer lets his partners know a taser is being deployed. I'm pretty new to the Bay Area & I noticed a lot of cops here walk around with a big chip on their shoulder. I remember my in Cupertino on Thanksgiving day I went to the video store & was leaving during dusk & as I was pulling out I forgot to turn on my lights but I did it myself a minute later. Cops then pull me over, one standing behind with his gun drawn while my kids are in the back. I was shocked. And they gave me a ticket for $140 dollars. Thats when my view on police changed alot.

genrally, officers carry there tasers on the oppiset side of there side arm. taser grips are wider, and are marked with red or orange on the butt and barrel to distinguish them in an emergancy. Officer yohan messerly should face the same charges as anyone else. I'm sure hed like to think, and will arguee it was an accident, but the video proves otherwise. also conviscating video evidance and trying to cover up the truth further incrimenates all the fellow officers as accessories after the fact.

They know that everyone and their mother was holding a camera up to them during the whole incident...as you can clearly see in the videos! Dude screwed up and removed himself from that police force, which is probably a good thing. The bottom line here is that there was a long series of events in succession that caused this death...not a murder.

The cop that shot Oscar, as well as the surrounding cops, hesitated after the shot was fired which seems like a strange response if it was something he meant to do.
Looking at their tasers, you'll see they have pistol-style grips and some cops keep them close to their guns. This is all speculation, BUT, there is a CHANCE that the cop, in the fray, had tunnel vision (loss of focus in high-tension situations), grabbed his firearm instead of the taser, and attempted to taser Oscar. Sad really.

The officer will claim he reached for his tazer and pulled out his gun by accident. Oscar Grant with his asking not to be tazed and continued struggling on the ground probably got him shot accidentally.
Why didn't Oscar Grant put his hands behind his back and let himself be cuffed? Possibly because the second officer was choking him with a knee on his throat or chest.
Police procedure that encourages choking by default is criminal training. If you are being choked you struggle period.

During the protesting/riots, Turns out one car was lit on fire near fruitvale.The Police decided to let it burn, there were also reportings of other fires started in the streets. The Mayor came down to talk to the people, to listen to what they had to say. He had police officers following behind him at first while he did this but called them off because they were unnecessary. Besides the fires nothing else has occurred and most the the riot has been pretty much peaceful.

I think we will soon hear that the cop did not mean to kill the kid, rather the cop thought he had pulled out his Taser and was just as surprised as everyone else that somehow the kid got shot.
I think this may all be nothing more than simple yet huge error in grabbing the wrong thing from his belt.
9 times out of 10 he would have grabbed the correct thing from his belt.
