this guy alessio bax is a great student, completely malleable as a musician, opened to and considerate of new ideas, but not without his own distinctive voice. barenboim is a fantastic teacher, i never realized how deeply he thought through his playing until now. incredible master class all the way around. not like some of the other master classes w/ famous musicians where it's just the teacher screaming at the student and the student trying to show off for others.

Baremboin shall be a genious?
No...in any case, he is only a mortal like us!
But, he only reads&tries maybe to it what Beethoven wrote! There is a very big distance from these pianists to Barenboim.Unfortunatelly he doesn't care for a global structure of a Sonata. The version (Fugue) of this pianist is really boring and doesn't keep the real thema & song of each voice! If you read the Urtexversion in detail you'll find the same&more than Baremboin
I think so much of Barenboim's genius lies in the fact that he THINKS the music through, and, of course, his ability to LISTEN, both being such essentials, though, we so often fail to train ourselves properly in regard to either.
"The silence louder than the sound". Absolutely great. I wish I had Barenboim as a teacher. But we can learn something from these videos. Thank you for posting.
lol at [1:42] What better recommendation could G Schirmer possibly wish for ".... Some Funny Edition..." ( at which point I have to admit to owning a copy myself - money was tight at the time)
Daniel, the dynamic that you have to know ist "piano" not "largamente". And it is not enough to say tenuto alone, you habe to remember the pianoof takt 8. You have a transition of tonality, and the pedal stills pressed until the final accorde of left hand. This accorde ends the tenuto!
what i wouldn't do to hear barenboim say "BRAvo" to my playing, holy crap...

Each detail is important, when structure is done

@ichbinpabloaguirre All people are mortal, but some of them are prodigious and some retarded...and most of them mediocre...

moment! "largamente"?
do not forget the legato of takt (9) and please do not forget the "unity" of "Tempo I"
ichbinpabloaguirre 2 years ago
ich lieg richtig, ich hab den urtext vpn meinem lehrer.
takt 8 schlag 1: tempo I sld vorgabe
takt 9 schlag 1: tenuto
sonst steht da gar nichts.!!
annokrat 2 years ago
Ganz einverstanden! Es steht nichts außer was du sagst!. Ich hab auch einen Urtext und lernen nur damit!
Frage mich warum andere haben "so funny editions". Die werden trotzdem verkauft, obwohl keine Gültigkeit und auf keinem Fall Ernst sind!
