  • I drive much of this every day now. Down through Pope Valley, Franz Valley, Wooden Valley. I've got pics up on my latest vid - Southern Cross, "Realize". They played at the old theatre in Calistoga once or twice.

  • Love it out there. Has a very wild feel. I've been hiking/driving around there for fifteen years. The birdlife is incredible. Too bad so much of the area is privately owned as is so much prime land. And they call this a democracy.

  • It would be nice if landowners would allow some access, but in this litigious society it is probably a fantasy. This country was founded on the principle of private land ownership. That and religious freedom are some of the main reasons for establishing the colonies. Our government is not a democracy in the strictest sense a la ancient Athens. It is a republic, a representative democracy.

  • When I started making my commute that way, I passed a great blue heron wading in a cattle watering pond on that long straight stretch just north of 128. It left in November, but now there are a bunch of geese. On Lake Hennessey I see what look like cormorants, but the only fresh water cormorants that I know of live in China.

  • Hi, my folks live on Chiles Pope Valley Road. I love driving that road toward Silverado Trail, but taking it the opposite direction and turning onto Lower Chiles Pope Valley Road is equally scenic and beautiful, especially as you bend around Rust Ridge winery.

  • Yes, the Lower Chiles Valley Rd is quite nice, too.

  • Cool Video. I used to live on The ranch that lies north of the Y in the road at the Lake when I was a young boy about three or four years old back in the Fifties and early sixties. I believe it is now called the Circle 5 Ranch. At least it was the last time I was There. Any way Great video.

  • Thanks. I'm happy you enjoyed the video. I don't think the road has changed all that much since you lived there. That part of Napa County evokes a sense of timelessness.

  • Then you need to go up Old Howell Mtn road, or maybe the other direction thorugh Pope Valley, toward Middletown. I particularly like the landscape around Guenoc winery.

  • That's a good run. I do go to the Guenoc area on rare occasion. It would make a nice eVid. Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching!

  • Used to take people one "SNIPE" Hunts up Howell Mt. Road. And The old Partricks Cemetary.

  • Hi Ken,

The best way to reduce reflection of your dashboard is to position your camera as close as possible to the window. Just make sure it doesn't hit the window while hitting some bumps in the road. Placing your camera on a stand on your dashboard has a couple of other pro's: not having the camera in your hand, and a less shocking image for the viewers :)

  • Hi, CarnagerSDV. Thanks for the good advice. I will see if I can implement them on my next daytime eVid.

  • Very nice driving. Until I realised that you had added the soundtrack after I thought you were a very fast driver! It might be an idea to experiment with that one time and take it to extremes!

  • This is the way I do all my eVids, with a voiceover added after the fact like a narration. I like the way you do it, too, I just haven't done it that way yet.

  • And I would maybe do it your way, but I can never remember afterwards what I wanted to say! Two exceptions were the seal film "Sealy Phocas" and the penguin film "Hoppy Feet" from South Africa, where I added on the narrative afterwards in order to do my "David Uncleborough" spoof of Attenborough.

  • Another beautiful e-vid from Ken b! I would like to lose myself in this area!

  • Thanks, corronco. I think you would like it here. I am told that the weather here is very like that in the Mediterranean region. Warm days and cool nights with dry summers and wet, but not too cold winters. That's why grapes and olives grow so well here.

  • You forgot the disclaimer about not operating heavy equipment while watching. 8)) nyuk nyuk. Reading the history of the valley while speading up the video was a little disconcerting. Nice view though.

  • Hi, Amiduffer. How could I forget that?! I'll have to watch my disclaimers in future! :) I'll bet you didn't know I could drive and read at the same time. ;) Thanks for watching!
