  • nice student post!! thnx pj:)

  • FANTASTIC

    YEP

  • very true... thank you!

  • I have loved this song, which was one of the many highlights of the legendary Chicago compilation "Souled Out" (Chess Records). Of note to the many label variations this recording was released on by Chess is the late and possibly last company reissue on Cadet Records; for the single to be reissued at that time (mid to late 60's on the horse, reid-white-blue logo) meant that there was still a demand for The Students years after the original release of "I'm So Young."

  • mm, sweet crackle in my ears. Really beautiful song, and THAT voice!

  • lovelovelove it . . . .

  • Wow... this is great! Embarrassingly, I first heard this by the Beach Boys... a hundred years ago... they did a good job on it too... this is great, great...

  • @tbonewalk That's no reason to be emabarresed. Great thing about you tube is discovering new music and artist adding to your music knowledge. :)

  • It's great finding such a copy but I have to confess that I much prefer Rosie & The Originals singing their version from 1963, or there abouts. I love all Rosie's songs and in particular, Angel Baby (1960)

  • It's great finding such a copy but I have to confess that I much prefer Rosie & The Originals singing their version from 1963, or there abouts. I love all Rosie's songs.

  • Man, this is cool.

  • One of the greatest songs ever.Rock on

  • i never get tired of this

  • Leroy was amazing and he's another singer from the 50's who really didn't get appreciated enough. I hope you'll listen to my version too :)

  • Yes

I have this song on a CD from the Doo-wop collection sung by the Students!

I love this whole CD called Doo-Wop Golden age-1957-1959!!

    Rhino!

    There were 4 CD's

    Beaufiful Songs

  • Just bought a copy!

  • I ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG. THANKS FOR POSTING.

  • This one of my favorite oldies. When I was small my dad would always play his 45's. Me and my sister Gogo grew up on this music...

  • YES!!!

    I LOVE this song!!

That little KID_KYLE does a good job singing this, But this is it here!!!

  • Love this song. Haven't heard it in years. Thanks for bringing back memories of WDAS-FM on sunday nites.

  • Wow im only 17 but feel like was born back then!

  • One of the best Doowops of any year, i hope their in the DWHOF.

  • Great

  • The Students and the Tren-Dells both have great versions of this song.

  • she did and i love her however her cover is really BAD!

  • I've always loved this one ... The Ronettes were mentioned -- their version is nice, but they altered the melody or the chords a bit and it's not as "pure" as the original. The Beach Boys also did a fine cover, but it can't beat the Students.

  • Thank you so much for sharing your collection with everyone ! It's great.

  • soundz like frankie lymon rite??? i think so!!!

  • This is my favorite version of this song.

  • Música linda!!

  • this song is on "Cry-Baby" the movie. i love it. oldies are awsome

  • @twifreak12345 its brill isnt it :)

  • Rosie & The Originals Covered This Song Too Right?

  • I never heard it by Rosie, although she very well may have done it

  • @PJDooWop Yea man, you gotta check it out

  • @PJDooWop Yeah man you have to check it out!

  • @Ipsuhhh She did - the Ronettes too

  • Conducted by Jimmie Coe, he used to play at The Chatterbox in Indianapolis.

  • What a killer song, the Ronetts version is great too.But I have to give it to the Students

  • I have this 45 with the same label. My Vow to You is the flip side.

  • I've never seen this 45 with My Vow To You on the flip. The flip of this is Every Day Of The Week

  • @PJDooWop I.m going to find it before I go to bed tonight. You very well could be right

  • Who sings lead on this song & is he still performing ?

  • Leroy King is singing lead and I heard that he passed away

  • @PJDooWop Yes he did pass. His daughter is still alive. She went to a oldie convention so to speak just to watch . She was asked to go on stage and say hi to everyone. When she told the people who she was (Leroys daughter) they they gave her a standing ovation which brought her to tears. Pretty cool. She just went there to listen.

  • Very nice, but I like it best by the Ronettes !

  • I love The Ronettes version too, but The Students is my fave

  • @PJDooWop I also like the Ronettes version, but my favorite is the Students. I saw the Ronettes in person when they came to our high school around 1962, I also have the students version on 45.

  • Richie (the original bass) is still singing this song, also My Vow To You, and Everyday of the Week. The group Richie and the Students will be in New york the weekend of April 23rd to perform. My wife sings with Richie. They were at the Count Basey Theatre in new Jersey in Feb. The songs are stil great.

  • I met Richie back in '94.. He's a class act. I know (well I should say I knew) Prez really well. The last time I spoke to him he was living in NY

  • We got the chance to meet Prez when we did a familt reunion show a couple of years ago. He's a good guy too. As far as I know, your right, he was in NY

  • one of the best of all times, guys in my neighborhood (NYC) doing this and it was called corner harmony.

  • Top 5 oldies of all time

  • Amen to that

  • the Ronettes do a version of this song, and its not bad......

  • I agree.. Their version is pretty damn good.

  • After seeing the Frankie Lymon movie again recently, just had to check out the kiddie DooWop. This is great! And was this the reference for the Beach Boys attempt at the tune?

  • I would think this was. Other groups did their own takes on this, but The Students has been by far the most popular.

  • You're right PJ one of the greatest, never to be duplicated.

  • i cannot find this song no where...not even on itunes...

  • I'm really surprised to hear it's not on Itunes.. This song was a big hit back in the day and was also featured on the Cry Baby soundtrack.

  • i know...the cry baby soundtrack does not have that song in the cd...its funny because when i type in "The Students" on itunes this german group comes up...do you know anywhere where i can find the song??

  • @ThePwincessbelle I have it

  • Kiddie doo wop at it's very best. Great lead and great harmony. I listen to this great sound and I remember what I was doing at this time of my life. Epitome of great NYC, slow, doo wop. Pure gold

  • In the NYC style, yes. The group is from Cincinnati, although Prez Tyus (writer) moved to NYC about 20 years ago.

  • Great Song!! This is one of my favorite Doo-Wop Songs of all time. This song sends chills down my spine. "I have a girlfriend. She says I'm her only one....." Pure Gold!

  • 10 stars! Without any doubt. You may keep all the rubbish of the Beattrash . This was real music! Thanks for posting it!

  • This song is one of the greatest ever. Brings back so many great memories!

  • I agree.. This is one of the greatest

  • Great post, it's not often you print something this well known but I love it! One of my fave's and the other side i like better (day of the week..)!! interesting pressing and story, i know nothing of this, very peculiar.

  • I'm going to try and take a picture of the dead wax. The label is only the beginning of the weirdness of this pressing

  • Such a great voice!!

  • Leroy King was one of the best

  • Love this tune.

  • It's hard not to

  • I wonder if it came out just after they left Note records label? Before they started blasting them out in mas production.

  • Not sure.. As far as I have understood there were a few years in between the time this was pressed on Note and Checker. The wax is noticably different on this copy than the others I've seen. I will post Every Day Of The Week and I will try and snap a photo of the dead wax

  • I never tire of this. If this isn't a classic, I'd like to know what a classic is! CLASSIC GREATNESS!!

  • Fantastic!

  • Great track my friend.

  • Thank you.. Well really, I should be thanking Prez Tyus for writing it and the Students for singing it

  • Nice rare version. Classic song.

  • Have you ever come across this version before? Osborne's book makes no mention of it

  • No, I've never seen this version before but I've seen a LOT of label variations on Checker. That type is so small it makes it look really strange. Definitely a keeper.
