  • I agre e that they are one of the greatest duos...great melodies and harmonies together.

  • John Oates looks a bit like Freddie Mercury in this video.

  • Check out the one with Todd Rundgren at Hall's house...nice.

  • Thanks >>.>>> still touching >....

  • This song is the most favolite H&O song for Japanese fans. I love it too, especially live version.

  • great song

  • Daryl and John are one of the greatest duos of all time in my opinion.

  • thom yorke and johnny greenwood.

  • @chimebird I have a hard time seeing them as a duo because of Tom and Charlie as well as some of their other steadies over the years... but if we are going to insist on calling H&O a "duo" then I'd say they are THE greatest duo ever... who even comes close??? ;)

  • @chimebird one of the best??? THE BEST!!!

  • @chimebird one of the best??? THE BEST!!!

  • This is one of my all time favorite Hall & Oates' songs!! Especially poignant considering my boyfriend is a few thousand miles away right now.

Thanks so much for sharing :D

  • love the song...thank you...5*****

  • Good song, but makes me sad. A very close and good friend of mine whom I cared alot had to decide to go far away to school or perhaps stay and here with me... she decided to take school. It was for the best, I did not put up a fight and just told her her life was important, that she should do the right thing. My heart still breaks when I heard this song...

  • @odiemodie1 -- Something similar happened to me. A girlfriend's father gave her a brand-new car. She could keep it if she dumped me. He never met me and I never met him. He didn't like me because I was in the U. S. Army. He was a soldier, also.

I told her to keep her new car and to go to college (he was paying for that, too). She'd probably have a lot of boyfriends in her lifetime but only one chance to go to college.

I never saw her again. I don't know how things worked out for her.

  • @doorgunnerAmerical, My fellow brother in Arms... when life dealt us woes, it seems it is always to those in the Armed Forces. I live right here in a miltary town just outside of Schofield Barracks on O'ahu, in Hawai'i. Your story of your old girlfriend's father is a sad one, especially since he is Military too, but I guess he didn't want his daughter to experience the possiblity of you not making it home from any tour of duty. As for your marriage, for the sake of your own daughter, have hope.

  • A close friend introduced me to "Wait for Me." And I think of him every time I hear this song. I love it. Over time, it has it has come to remind me of my failing relationship with my wife (the marriage was going down hill slowly but surely). I was off in the Army and she was stuck at home with our daughter at her parents' home back in Kentucky.

  • Was that G.E. Smith in the background???

  • Yeah - GE Smith played guitar for them for most of the 80s... in fact, he left Hall and Oates to take up the gig on SNL.

  • @akaphs And he was there for 10 years. :D

  • que buena cancion en la actualidad ya no se escucha musica como esta ni siquiera se ve en los canales de cable, como dejar de olvidar este clasico WAIT FOR ME por este extraordinario duo HALL and OATES

  • in response to Mauipatricia John Oates deserves equal billing because not only does he write alot of the material his backup vocals and instrumentals are key to the overall sound of this duo..by the way saw them tonite and they were awesome live!

  • Didn't know Daryll Hall can play the piano. Great group, great song! I don't get the stage background though? :-(

  • This song originally came from the album X-Static, which featured a song called "Portable Radio", and had an old transistor radio on the cover. The stage backdrop is meant, I believe, to represent the inside of an old transistor radio. BTW, terrific live version of this song recorded in Montreal in 1982.

  • On most of their music that featured a piano or keyboard, it was either Daryl or Charlie (their sax player) playing... Daryl also plays guitar pretty damn well too...

  • I have never seen this before! Thanks!

  • I don't know why Oates got any billing whatsoever. The talent is clearly 100% Daryl Hall.

  • While I understand YOU are entitled to your opinion, you have no human imagineable idea as to what John Oates brings to the duo. There are dozens of things he can contribute to their albums from writing songs, playing guitar, creating and arranging background vocals and many other things in between. I wonder if YOU have ever purchased a Daryl Hall solo album he's recorded? For that matter, how come Daryl's solo albums do NOT sell as well as Hall and Oates albums do? Hmmm...want to rethink this?

  • Most of their songs were written as a duo - in fact, "Maneater" was originally John Oates' baby. Daryl Hall changed the musical arrangements on it before the recorded it.

Listen to the quality in John Oates' voice on songs like "Possession Obsession" and "She's Gone" - and you'll understand why "Hall and Oates" as a duo sell more records than the two of them combined have ever sold as solo artists.

  • haha...oh man...that thing upper right says "music in the key of gay" hahaha that's so messed up! haha I love H&O

  • Love this song!!1979 excellent!!Hall&Oates excellent!!

  • sara jimbo loves you

  • Will always be my favourite and Hall & Oates are the bestest POP Duo for all time1

  • this is another song that sounds like an oldie from the 60's...it's beautiful.

  • The Bassist is John Siegler and the drummer from what I can see is I beleive John Willie Wilcox. They both played in Todd Rundgren's Utopia. John Wilcox started with Hall and Oates and then joined Todd Rundgren's Utopia, John Siegler left TR's Utopia and played with Hall and Oates, funny eh?

  • Just found out that'a Jerry Morrota on drums

  • One of the best duos of the 70's and 80's. You can still hear them on the radio today.

Daryl Hall is a Genius lyric writer. I love them...got all of their music including all of Hall's solos.

  • 2 of my musical influences are Billy Joel & Hall & Oats First because of the lyrical content in there songs Second because the musical harmoni/Beat Third because there spectrum of topics

  • Another one I had forgotten about!! Beautiful!!! Thank you so much!!

  • One of my favorite songs...I don't even need to watch the video, just keep the music on in the background...thanks for posting!

  • One of their best songs. The harmony is flawless and catchy; you can't not sing along. Nor can you not feel the pain he's singing about. Thanks for the great times Hall and Oates! Keep rockin'.

  • ah! Look how young! DARyl, you're supposed to LOOK like you are actually singing, G.E., you are not playing the bass, T-Bone! Who the hell's on drums, Yo?

  • John Siegler and Jerry Marotta played bass and drums in this video. They were both replaced in 1982 by T-Bone Wolk and Mickey Curry and that lineup stayed consistent for many years.

  • yeah, I knew it wasn't T-Bone after I posted - that was the line up I saw q

  • This is one of their best songs. Don't know why it wasn't multi-week Number One mega-hit.

  • WOW! I didn't know they made a video for this song. Funny thing is, its better than some of the cheap ones shown on MTV back in the 80's

  • oh my god there so young here, love love this song!

  • The Live Version is great also.

  • I sooooooooo remember this album/song. But not as mcuh as Abandoned Luncheonette.

What happened to G E Smith? He was with H&O, then on SNL. Where is he now?

  • George Edward Smith is still keeping quite busy. When he is not giving performances with his wife ( Taylor Barton ) he is involved with his new band called Moonalice. They are in concert tonight in San Francisco and will be playing Saturday night( March 01 ) in Santa Cruz.

  • yeah he been my main influence on guitar for a long time and i was a student of his at FPR. great guy really loves guitars, acoustic & electric and knows alot about them!

  • G.E.Smith currently is the lead guitarist for the band MoonAlice.Check out his bio on Wikipedia and you will be amazed at his musical journey.
