  • ...and then you plug the PC into the electrical mains.

  • Didn't get anything out of it.. Better next time.. If you can..

  • He sounds like a bootlegged dick head lmao.

  • Got Crack???????????

  • Fuck expert village.

  • old computer... also expert village make like 1000 vids on like 1 subject, and in about 10 videos u kinda get the message of wat they tell u

  • Because that was helpful...

  • one word, FUCKEXPERTVILLAGE

  • wow...this is really funny.

  • expert village is a joke

  • "how to build a home studio" WHAT THE FUCK.first you need that equipment first.. seconds expertvillage is for retards

  • nice fucking computer mate

  • What a WASTE OF TIME...........

  • dislike this

  • heya friends ... some good info here ... we just posted a bunch of clips w a world-class acoustician and room designer. Check it out and hope they are helpful ... our channel name is SecretPros ... good luck w your music! =)

  • so you need a preamp and a INTERFACE

  • @jem462 - many interface have pre amps ... most do!

  • @secretpros

Most have for only 2-4 channels in the back and 2 in the front for your mics only and the rest for midi, but most audio interface, have a fiber light pipe or ADAT for a 8 channel preamp, for expanding analog inputs, which is better then the way this guy show you, as you get 96khz/24bits or 48khz with no loss in audio quality

For most people a audio interface is all you really need, just buy one with the most inputs and with a good DAC, but get one that has a fiber lightpipe.

  • thank you! simple and easy very nice tutorial

  • yeh i dont see why people have to bag these helpful people. i need help with an issue whos willing to step up.? who thinks they know more about setting up a recording studio than this dude. cunts.

    thanks.

  • Type PRIZE before youtube and hit enter

  • He's a nice guy and could possibly be in jail if he didn't get into setting up a studio.... even though it's only short, a tick for me

  • i dont know where expert village get these guys, i dont think ive ever seen a useful expert village video

  • i have mxl usb condenser mic...i want to use it record my own songs but when i plug it on my laptop i can hear my self with the mic on the head set but when u play the video its like i dont have a mic its the same as when im using my laptop through its build in mic.. do i still need something else in order for me to record my own songs with my mic.. u can check my video so ull know what i mean..hope u can help me

  • shitassqualityvillage

  • speaking IN behalf?

  • so what is better? XLR microphone or a 1/4" microphone?

  • @TVHighjacker typically most XLR's are balanced, but you can buy balanced 1/4 inch jacks (the have two black lines instead of one) but just because you have a balanced cable doesnt mean that your get a balanced signal coming out unless the inputs of your mixer/audio interface are balanced as well. but it doesnt really matter i personally always go for XLR as it provides positive negative and ground, hope this helps :)

  • you should go to recording school, they teach all this stuff and you can mix for big name artists when you graduate!

  • @chrislpp i'm still fixing lawnmowers for a living .

  • My problem with Expert Village videos are that they are all only at 1min! A Minute and 25-30 if you're lucky! They leave you with so many questions un-answered! Aaaargh! And then they don't answer back!

  • just buy a alesis mutimix 4 ($80-$100) its a mini mixer, can hook up a guitar, 2 mix inputs n has phantom power

  • @shampainTV alesis is horrible gear. u dont record into a mixer you fucking idiot.

  • @TheTelepathetics

take it easy, didnt say i was a pro. in the learning process of studio setup.

    what you recommend instead?

  • @shampainTV sorry i was being a dick. i wouldnt get a mixer though its not important. its good if u just get like an audio interface and plug ur monitors into that. audio interfaces allow you to multitrack, mixers are more for routing audio not recording guitars and stuff. what u do is u get the audio interface, then you plug a good dynamic mic into it (like a shure sm-57 which costs 100 dollars) and u can put that mic up against the speaker cone of ur amp and record ur guitar and bass (cont...)

  • @shampainTV but that works best if u have a good amp. if u have a poor amp u can do the DI method where u just plug ur guitar directly into the audio interface and record, but it doesnt sound as good. The audio interface as i said before will usually have inputs for ur headphones or monitors, always make sure u mix with a good pair of headphones or monitors. to record ur audio u need a DAW which is basicly just a computer program that u can record onto. I would get logic express or logic pro

  • @shampainTV if u have a PC get like cubase or something. but yeah to record well i would get this

-logic express or whatever (a good DAW)

-A computer with over 2ghz of RAM and alota memory like a macbook pro

-An audio interface (m-audio makes good ones so does steinberg look them up)

-Good amps if u can afford it

    -Good mics

the shure sm-57 mic is really good for everything but mostly guitar, if u do alota softer vocal stuff then use a condenser mic for ur voice too. but mixers arent important

  • @shampainTV p.s. make sure when u mix u don't plug ur monitors or headphones into your computers sound jack.. ALWAYS PLUG MONITORS AND HEADPHONES INTO YOUR INTERFACE, YOUR COMPUTERS SOUNDCARD CANNOT HANDLE THE KIND OF AUDIO UR USING IT FOR TRUST ME I'VE HAD BAD FUCKING EXPERIENCES

  • hi my name is idiot on behalf of idiot village

  • can you help me? i need a software for my cubase le4... for windows 7.. thanks..

  • You expertvillage fucks really don't know nothing about a home studio. Matter of fact everything you said is oppisite of what you really do.!

  • these videos are so uninformative

    they suck ass

  • Expert Village...because most people shit money.

  • the audio on this "microphone connections" video is so awesome......w.t.f, im glad all these guys hang out in the same village. horrible!...

IDIOT VILLAGE! i don't mean to be so cold, but this is ridiculousness! i did learn something tho, never click on any "EXPERT VILLAGE VIDEO!"

  • NICE AKG C414....

but I would never connect this mic to crapy Mbox ....

  • fuck this all too much money

  • I can't see so straight Dad....is that George Martin sitting over there?

  • @posthastey lmao

  • OMG, now I see why everyone hates these guys, these videos are totally worthless.

  • "Expert village". Is this some kind of ironic joke?

  • this is retarted. thankyou for telling me how to plug wires into obvious places

  • i have a co1u but its usb.

and i wana buy a mbox mini 2.

is there any way i can connect my co1u to an mbox??

  • Gonna front end that cheapo A/D converter with that nice pre-amp? The pre-amp will never be able to perform at its peak quality. The cheapo A/D converter will distort before you even start to get any gain out of that pre-amp. Recordings are only as good as the weakest link in the signal chain. This chain looks like a jet engine in a balsa wood bi-plane.

  • RetardVillage...

  • AAAAH NO!! NOT THOSE FUCKIN' CUNTS OF EXPERT VILLAGE ..THOSE ASSHOLES KNOW NOTHING!! can these "guys' get BANNEND from YOUTUBE??

  • How come all of expert villages 'tutorials' are such shitty quality?

  • no wonder these guys all live in a village together

  • i just got a shure sm58 but it's useless since I can't plug it in anywhere...what do I need?

  • Comment removed

  • @jtiemrry you will need a PRE AMP. This will go into your computer. You then plug in your Shure sm 58 into the pre amp. As your Mic has no power it needs the pre amp to boost the signal. Not all pre amps are the same tho best to google and read up on them 1st. I 've got a Behringer Mic 800 :)

  • @Nicpetelogan ok,ty bro...

  • @Nicpetelogan d00d I have another question...Before I buy a behringer mic 200 what do I need to connect it to my pc?ty:)

  • he did it wrong, he plugged in his preamp into the built in pre amp in his audio interface, your never supposed to plug a pre amp into a pre amp

  • where did these people came from.,.,are they slaves??

  • Can someone tell me why he has his monitoring system in the corner of the room?? He might have half an idea about connecting equipment but obviously has zero idea about acoustics! That is one of the worst spots to mix... So in saying that, take this guys advice with a grain of salt!!!

  • people, calm down lol. there nothing wrong with bypassing a pre amp. theres reasons, so take it easy on the guy. but i do think its a shame that hes running a 414 through that box...gross

  • yea man seriously, misleading info going from preamp to preamp and other mistakes or just tips that arent even explained...and these teasing 1 min videos that try to pull you in so you benefit from marketing...

  • Why the fuck are you going from a preamp to a preamp?

  • I think he's doing that because his USB interface doesn't have phantom power.

  • hadlock - I'm pretty sure it is an Mbox, And they do have Phantom power and a Pad! I'd say the reason why he is using a pre-amp is for that particular flavor! You can get some really nice pre-amps out there. The Mbox series doesn't offer any flavor just an honest A to D converter. Although not sure what type of pre amp he has you'd hope it was a half decent one if he is using an AKG C-414.

  • nice computer buddy!

  • this guy is a fuckin idiot

  • @1202abcd how is he an idiot? everything he said was correct. I'd have to say you're the idiot for not recognizing that and for being so ridiculously ignorant.

  • @1202abcd lol

  • Well first of all nothing you record through the mbox is going to sound good. It's just a real piece of junk.

Technically the peramps on the mbox are also line inputs as well as mic inputs. In the situation he's in where he's going through his 610 it would be used like a line amp. Normally you would go in to the -10 line input out a pre but i don't know if the mbox has that or not.

  • @JFlowzYDaniel Well he's really not hooking it up wrong. He just doesn't know what he's talking about.

  • This guy isn't much better than Tad Donely.

  • what kind of control interface was that?

  • looks like a mbox from digidesign complete shit when recording a guitar i think the firestudio mobile is way better u should chek it out

  • do i need a pre amp fore all my mick fore recording drums and vocal or can i use a mixer

  • you can use a mixer like xenyx 802 (behringer),802 is a mixer whit 2 inputs for mic

  • Depends on if your interface or whatever you're using has them built in

  • @neikophotoskate Most mixers have preamps built in (all I believe)

  • u attached your mic to a preamp first then from that preamp to mbox.....I think mbox have its own preamp???Am i right or wrong??

  • Yeah. But it doesn't have a good preamp. He's hooking it up wrong in the video as well.

  • den how is it suppose 2 be hooked up ?

  • He needs to go into the line input not the mic input.

  • @RainKingRec no he needs to jump off a really high bridge

  • Everytime I come across something from expert village, I just get so irritated about how "expert" it is. But now I actually find this amusing haha

  • Atleast he's got a decent pre.

  • nice monitor, what is that 1980 CRT..geez,

  • I really don't like when people see a video intended to help others and just compain about how bad it all is

  • If people arn't honest about how bad it is how will people that don't know its bad know its bad. I agree that more people that actually know what they are doing need to put some stuff up.

  • @froggydude29

really? i guess we should applaud people on doing a bad job, because were all children.... be able to take criticism if you plan to tell people that you are an EXPERT...in conclusion fuck you because fuck you.

  • @froggydude29 would be nice if it actually helped though

  • @froggydude29 Because "Expert Village" is an oxymoron. Because it's sad that people who don't know what they're doing to begin with are watching this guy and all of the other 'village' idiots stumble through English. Because it's the "love-everything-be-nice" people like yourself who are the reason people become so upset.

  • @BurnsidesMusic

People who don't know how to do it, are watching a how-to video. ( I see how this could be very disturbing.) People who already know how to do it, are watching anyway, so they can feel superior. What was your point again?

  • @froggydude29

You can rephrase your sentence. Change people to kids.

  • @froggydude29 "expert" village videos are pretty bad though.

  • @froggydude29 fuck you these videos sck they dont teach anything

  • That's cuz it IS in his bedroom. Notice how to make a HOME studio. Apperantly you can't read.

  • i agree to all of the comments in here...plus CLEANLINESS is not optional lol

  • Yeah, this information is very noobish stuff, though I don't necessarily think you HAVE to have a hardware mixer to have good recordings, this minute long video can't possibly be the hail mary to recording problems. Come on, 'expert village'?

  • I have learned that "expert" village has nothing to do with expert advice at all.

    Always use a mixer.

  • EV sux. How can you teach stuff like that in 1:24? Like really, somebody's gonna go "Oh, yeah, now I've got a home studio! Gee, thanx!"

Spend some bux on some proper vids, you cheep-azz twerps.

  • urrgh...

does he really have a turntable sitting on top of a speaker????

enjoy ur feedback and rumbling samples...

  • loool lmaof you almost killed me

  • heh heh yeh, these vids are pretty shit really, most of the comments are pretty harsh and rightly so...

one of these vids is on "how to dress for making hiphop" WHAT THE FUCK MAAAN??????/

some spazzola posing in bling-i kid you not!

"yeh i think the track needs more white sneakers" pfffffffttttttt!!!!!!1111!!!!!!

  • your comment made me laugh..two thumbs up

  • Ugh I hate "Expert" village

  • moronvillage

  • @Mrsmackthatassful

    Clever.

    o.0

  • heres my probl, i have a soundcard that i use for recording guitar and bass but now, i wanna record vocals but my soundcard didn't have a microphone input so where will i have to plug the mic to record ?

  • try getting a mixer. use xlr to hook it up and get a y adapter for 2 rca to 1/8" stereo and hook it up to your computer mic in

  • Not a control interface. "Audio interface" will be correct in this case. The main purpose of it not to control something, but let analog audio signal get in and out digital domain

  • I`ve seen a lot of people that use a mixer and a interface.. do u have a mixer or do you just use the MBox?

  • to start it all, people that have home studios didn't buy a preamp in the first place. Good preamps are expensive. They also call the video MICROPHONE CONNECTIONS but didn't get into the types of cable....

    Expert village my ass...

  • And FYI, helpful this video may be, it is also misleading. Forget all the preamp, cable and all hype. All you need is a good SOURCE, a decent mic, a standard interface, and I guarantee you could pull off better sounds than some others will do in a decade. See where you priorities are, if the source you are recording is not good in the first place, having the best of equipment will simply do nothing to make things better. Priorities!

  • For anyone still reading this thread of endless comments, please go somewhere else to find answers. YouTube is not exactly the place to learn pro audio regardless whether people are right or not.

  • AMEN!!

  • im sure everyone can figure how a mic cable goes into a mic pre-amp where it is actually labelled mic-in lol

this is for the really dumb people.

the manual of these equipment would even tell you how to do these connections!

  • lol

how much is the control interface?

  • are you on about audio interface? if so then read the rest ov the post...

a control interface on its own can cost around £30 to £100+ depending on what you are after.

theres a behringer one thats about £30, good place to start.

but you will also need a pre-amp and you can get a decent one for about £70+ for beginners.

then what you will need to do is connect the pre-amp to the audio interface and that goes into the computer.

you can also get audio interfaces built into pre-amps..

  • thanks man

  • your cables suck

you'll never hear the real character of this mic and this pre with such shitty cables :-)

  • i agree, so much character can be lost with crap cables.

this is really just for "beginners"

  • Comment removed

  • kinda nice info

  • The info on here was useful to me so fuck all you derogatory ass haters. If you hoes on here that keep talkin about how bad & uninformative thus video is know so goddamn much then where's your shit at.

  • it sounds like a talking instruction manual...

    and nobody likes manuals...

  • sometimes you might need to use a manual :)

  • Check out

Pro Tools: Studio In A Roadcase

    :-)

  • Its a bloody preamp..... absolutley nothing 'expert' about that...

Expert village, never fail to unimpress.

  • A preamplifier (preamp), or control amp in some parts of the world, is an electronic amplifier which precedes another amplifier to prepare an electronic signal for further amplification or processing. The preamplifier circuitry may or may not be housed as a separate component.

  • why all the anger people?

  • All the anger is prolly bc this is supposed to be EXPERT Village, not another Wiki loose- based tutorials, by ppl who aren't qualified to be listed, here, on EXPERT Village.

It has made ME pretty damned angry, m'self!

Maybe I should submit something, to them, about rocket science!

  • spoken like a champ.. these videos are more for TRUE BEGINNERS... even if you have some skill in the area they are talking about.. you would know otherwise.. I dont know how many guitar lessons Ive watched from expert village where they 1. teach you the wrong way 2.. Teach you the stupid way and 3.. Just sound awful; while doing... are you gonna take lessons from someone who doesnt sound good?? I dont think so lol

  • iv noticed that every vid by expert village is shit. seriously 139,067 vids. no life

  • you do know that most of these vids are like 3 years old.

  • A preamp is the same as a mixing desk isn't it?

  • hahaha, you have much to learn young padawan

  • Well go on, explain it to me, big head :P

  • big head?

if you think a mixing desk is the same as a pre-amp then you have HEAPS to learn.

even people with a tiny bit of knowledge should know that sort of thing

  • Well good job trying to explain the difference.

  • a mixer is a device used to combine audio signals of different levels and then to send the mixed signal out to amps and then to speakers. or just to mix signals to the right level to record at.

a pre-amp on the other hand is the first stage in the amplification process and it amplifies low level signals up to medium level signals to drive power amplifiers. or boosts a signal level up to something adequate to record with.

good enough for you? can you see the difference now? i hope so

  • The guy below is right, you still didn't explain the difference...

  • can't you read?

a pre-amp brings a signal up to a usable level for recording or live sound. and a mixer combines several signals and mixes them to the right levels for recording or sending to an amp for a PA, and it has several other functions too

they are 2 completely different things. with 2 completely different purposes, and i have given you their basic purposes and uses

  • Well, a desk still amplifies the analog signal before its sent to the interface, then the comp, so their pointless really...

  • whats pointless?

you have to have a pre-amp at some stage. it might be the pre-amp that is built into the mixer or it might be the pre-amp in the interface.

the point is, a pre-amp is different to a mixer, mixers have pre-amps in them, so do audio interfaces. or you can get separate pre-amps.

you can use the pre amps from a mixer for recording with an interface. but that doesn't magically turn a pre-amp into a mixer

  • heres the problem bro.. Interfaces have preamps in them.. Mixers have preamps in them.. using a completey seperate preamp can definately help your sound out.. if you dont like the sound your mic gets then you have to buy a better sounding preamp to make it more clean.. built in preamps are good for the price but any serious recording requires an external one.. if you want sound quality

  • Gotcha :)

  • Dude this guy is an idiot. Plugs a 2k+ preamp into a mbox mic pre??!! Thats suicide man. People really do not know the importance of good A/D converter nowadays...

  • he is using a 2k pre-amp so he doesn't have to us the crappy ones on the interface.

  • Macs FTW!

  • haha

  • when was this stuff made>?

  • Lol studios are sooo expensive :((

I wish it would be cheaper.

  • it can be just him me up ill teach you how to build one for under 200 bucks

  • any shit talkers on here have an grammies?

    NO!

so keep looking up videos to bash

  • use the TRS input on the mbox, works best, avoid the mbox preamp.

  • look at your computer R u kidding me
