Youre the first unbiased trainer I've heard. Every other trainer I've listened to either in person or on the net has had something negative to say bout p90. I think it's because it takes away thee potential client. Why pay a trainer $1200 for 3-6months when you get something similar for a tenth of the cost
From a P90x participant, there is no such thing as "Muscle Confusion." Your muscles don't have consciousness. There is adaptation response which is why changing the workout every few weeks (or every day if you like) is beneficial to hypertrophy. However, diet is the key factor in transformational changes. It's also the hardest part of any exercise regimen.
Muscles always adapt if you dont stress them enough. If you do these workouts your body will adapt and plateau. The way they have you break this cycle is to continue increasing weights, not to do different exercises. Even if you continue to do different exercises your body wont get stronger just because its being "confused" lol. Your body doesnt get confused. If this worked...doing different exercises would make you stronger regardless of weights. A load of BS.
I am also a personal trainer and have been for 18 years. "Muscle Confusion" doesn't make any sense. I'm not knocking the workouts, except to say they may be a little vigorous for the average person but take it all with a grain of salt. You can create consistent variations in your workouts on your own by adding intervals, functional training and postural modification. Scott...you might as well have just marketed this as a tutorial.
Pretty good video. Very informative. However, it depends on your body also. I`ve seen people get ripped off of Cross Fit, and others with free weights. I`m no expert but I`m just calling what I see.
@vme1111 I am a big fan of small group training sessions such as "Cross Fit" among other. The biggest difference with the small group setting is the social aspect and the competition.People love to compete and some people need that social aspect to push them a little harded then they would push themselves.
@vme1111 continued......When you have somebody busting their ass right next to you,you cant help but to work a little harder! When you look up at that board and see scores a little higher than yours, you want to be on top!
@Zearoph Depends on the supplements? I personaly like to have a protein supplement post workout and a BCAA(branch chain amino acid) suplement prior to my workout. You really have to be cautious when using a supplement because often times you might not get what you think you are taking. And often times extra "crap" is added that you dont want or need. If you have specific supplement questions feel free to email me.
This review was extremely biased selling yourself as a personal trainer. You didn't mention any specific details of the actual work outs and whether you thought is was effective. You didn't mention Tony Horton, in fact there was nothing in your video that shows you've seen more than the infomercial.
@harleemorgan Sorry you did not like the review. However, you are way off base with many of your comments. There is absolutely no selling of "me" as a personal trainer. This review was not about Tony,it was about the term "muscle confusion".I actually bought P90X because so many people were asking me about it,and my wife uses the program. What did you want to hear about Tony? I also did mention that i felt it was an effective program if you were consistent with doing it, if you are not, it wont work.
@harleemorgan I didn't think it was biased at all. I also did not see him selling himself. He gave great advice and it is all supported by the literature put out by his certifying body, the National Strength and Conditioning Association. My NSCA-CPT instructor who also has her CSCS said the exact same thing concerning P90X when we discussed it in class a month ago. If you want, you can subscribe to my videos where I am doing P90X AND selling myself as a personal trainer. :-)
one of my best friend is studying to become a personal trainer and we got to discuss one time, about how efficient P90X really is he told me "P90X doesn't work, Its better to hire a real personal trainer". Well since he the one studying the muscle I listened to him and hired him for a session. I was sore for two days, I enjoyed it but...I didn't feel like it was the best way to feel energized (something was missing). I decided to try the P90X, I told my self I would only do it for a day or two.
@bettebob I ended doing the P90X for a month and felt so energized. And I began to talk to him about it, he said the same stuff he said ealier about P90X. I asked, Why?? don't you inspire yourself from this kind of thing in order to maybe sell a program he told me that the people who made the P90X didn't have any diplomas and that they just took the best in other programs and made it one. Well isn't that good.
A program that finally understood what people wanted. He told me it made his...
@bettebob Job harder. Because P90X has been so successful that when people don't like the way the trainer does things, they go to P90X and give bad rep to trainers. He told that he has met many trainers who don't give a good training, by only working on the strong muscles ( not to lose the client - my opinion) and that didn't explain exactly what the trainer was hoping to achieve by giving him or her (the client) that workout.
when I pay for something It better be worth every penny.
This trainer is unbiased? In my opinion this program kicks butt. It doesn't seem like you have really reviewed the program thoroughly. You say you do a chest exercise once on monday, and then never again. Check out the program and see that you do a few rounds of each exercise, get a little confident, and THEN the program switches. There's no way a personal trainer can give you these results for the same price. P90x is taking your clients and it angers you.
@Farve4ever589 We are talking semantics here....P90X uses the term "muscles confusion", and what they are talking about is the bodies ability to accommodate to the stresses placed on it. By changing exercises frequently, therefore "confusing the muscles", the body will not accommodate to the stresses placed on it as fast, therefore preventing plateau, resulting in better results. This is proven fact, not myth.
@socotto have you ever heard of progressive overload. heres an example i will bench press 220 this week doing 6 reps in my first set. next week i bench 220 and able to do 10 reps. the week after that i am able to do 225. adventually i will reach a plateau just like everybody else will due to genetics unless steroids were used. i could replace bench pressing with another workout but as long as i reach progressive overload i will be making gains either way.

This review actually felt quite biased. Also you just went on & on about how the system was "nothing new" without going into how the system will work for a person who follows it thoroughly and what realistic results they can expect vs a gym/trainer. this felt more like a personal opinion then a clarified review.
@ToilsBadonkadonk ....the common denominator for success in this program or with a personal trainer is consistency in your exercise and nutrition. I personally still prefer to go to the gym to train for the variety offered at most gyms, such as kettle bells, dumbbells, cable machines, medicines balls, etc... But again, P90x can be a good alternative.....
@ToilsBadonkadonk Thanks for your comments. You are right, this video is strictly my opinion. I titled the video "an unbiased opinion...." because I have no relationship with the people from P90X. I refer to the principles and theories as "nothing new" because being a personal trainer with over 10 years of experience, it is nothing new for us. P90x can be a very successful program if followed thoroughly and properly.
isnt another way to simply confuse your muscles is by just increasing the weights or doing different movements....haha i mean simple things like that....p90x isnt ground breaking.
@BEAKSTERSIX when you want to increase your max on the bench bottom line is you have to bench! But... you might want to tweak things by working with dumbbells for a while to give your pecs a different feel and work the stabilizing muscles too....... then try a "pyramid set" to increase your bench. start with a weight that you can do 15 reps for set 1, then set 2, 10 reps. Set 3, 6-8. set 4, 4-6 reps..increasing the weight each set.
@BAopus1 No doubt, this guy totally needs to clean his room. Is this guy a personal trainer or does he sew for a living. What is with all the sewing supplies?
Great honest comment. I'm going to start changing my workout, that happened to me. I've been doing the same exercises for 3 months and now I hit a wall.
thanks for your time scott. no bullshit there. ill check out that bodies for life programme and see how it compares. im not familiar with it. p90x is great cause its 12 dvds and is a complete programme with full website and all the tools in place. thats why its such a strong success i guess, and rightly so. nobody else took it to the next level, and the workouts are excellent.
