  • I thought they did really well! And we're only cadets :/

  • makes me fkin laugh watched this vid and reading some of these comments anybody would think that every one is a pro at music well davenport nathaniel am 22years served royal irish and have played all over the world shut the fk up you know nothing tehy done a grand job and there only kids would love to get you on my parade ground would rip you apart

  • i would like to add cause it took me a while to actually watch this video i didnt know existed ... Besides getting deafened by the pipes the bells are heard and it would of also helped if all the bells knew highland cathedral!

  • Bravo Zulu, damned good effort.

  • guess what this was our first big performance and i thought we did well even with having learners within the band at moment in time. Plus we didnt have long to practise the full routine and had to change it at the last moment! GO US.. nORTHERN ARE SCC BAND or as the random at the metro fest said North Sea Area Sea Cadet Band !! Whhop

  • Petty Officer, show me a clip of your band doing better. Remember that cadets are very young people, and do not have the benefit of years of experience and practice that professionals have. I've been playing drums and fifes for 10 years now and I appreciate when cadets put on a good show.

A good senior sailor will re-enforce the strengths and instruct to improve areas of weakness.

  • The sea cadet band put on a display for the british legions annual beat and retreat. this was not a sea cadet beat and retreat it was 2 performances TO add a little bit extra for something different from pipes. The cadets gave an excellent performance considering that there is 3 different units that come together a few times a year and the routines they were taught had to be changed on the day due to the size of area they had to parade in and the times they had to play. WELL DONE TO ALL INVOLVED

  • I am a Petty Officer from London area and the display was ok, but needs alot more practice. The stick drill was not in time, when playing music if your going to have bell lyre's make sure they are heard!!! And one thing which is really bugging me, you CANNOT in your info call that a 'beating the retreat' because the very basic format for a 'beating the retreat' is a quick, slow, quick and maybe a drum solo. But apart from that it was good.

  • What is on u tube is only a part of beating the retreat - and if you know band routines you would have known that.

  • @SuperMarcusc so your a p.o what unit you from then?

  • @rockandrollercoster I am not a PO. Perhaps you are referring to the PO from London. I am a LT and the Northern Area Band Administrator or 2i/c. I have more videos of the band but are too long for utube.

  • ok this was a beating the retreat but what the sea cadets done is not the actually beat the retreat they put on a display the combined band on the pipes, etc. was the band to lead the beating the retreat. the sea cadet band was a combination of 4 units and yes you are correct more practise is needed but i think you should watch the whole display before you pass judgement as the display as a whole was a extremely professional and judging by comments from national staff is competition worthy.

  • @davenportnathaniel considering the band are AMATEURS, only meet up 3-4 times per year ,and had to lkearn new routines on the previous day, they done bloody great !! I know this as all my 3 kids were there and i am a member of the band staff !!

  • Im one of the Marine cadets in the band and to be honest i thought they did a bloody good job and we dont need people getting us down as we had nothing but praise from doing it.

  • @davenportnathaniel OMG NAT! I was looking on vids for my friend, what a coincidence! You best remember me right... From royalist ages ago with sam :) That is soooo weird

  • @davenportnathaniel You Sir, are a pedant & dickhead

  • @davenportnathaniel what unit you from?

  • well done guys BRILL :) x

  • the side drummers play too loudly and generally monotone. bell lyre used in conjunction with the solo piper would have been better during the march.

  • Yes you are correct

  • i believe the sea cadet drum major on the right is charlote coupland. i may be wrong

  • WOW!!!! i hate massed bands sometimes when they too many people in them and it looks messy but that looks out standing welldone to the sea cadets u rule and i am a marine cdt side drummer

  • woop woop my friend is there! yay go grace! xx u play that bel. :P xx

  • Nice video, I was there with the Jedburgh Royal British Legion Pipe Band, as this was the RBL Scotland Annual Beating Retreat too. Lone piper was from Stromness RBLS band. There were about 8 RBLS bands taking part from across Scotland, we enjoyed listening to you guys from the SeaCadets as well, thanks.
