The Hobbit movie is going to be terrible: The book is a bright, merry story--Jackson will take matters into his own hands as usual and make it dark, blue and dreary. The poetry will be sung in some absurd, weak fashion. The dwarves will be filthy and hairy creature-like things rather than strong, stout, healthy warriors with rich beards and Scandinavian appearance. Smaug will surely look like he's out of a horror film rather than fantasy--I'm starting to make myself angry, time to shut up!

In all honesty, and I think the vast majority of people agree with me, I am EXTREMELY wary of the production of the Hobbit unless peter jackson is DIRECTING it. If he isn't directing it, there is a chance that it could ruin the series. Even if a hobbit movie was made that was of average quality, think of how that would effect the entire lord of the rings series as a whole. It would tarnish the lord of the rings that jackson started, since the other movies were far above average quality.
