  • Compensating for the camera mic, I think it's a nice sound.

  • I don't understand why this has so many dislikes. Even through the crappy camera mic you can still tell it's a pretty good tone. It's not even scooped, just sounds really trebly because of the mic.

  • mark v .....anyone.....lol dual recs sound is so worn out, and Diezels rectifing is way more defined and ballsy

  • The Dual Rectifier is by far the best rock/hard rock/ metal amp. No amp comes close to the density and tightness of the Dual and Triple. Marshal is a lot of crunch and no low end. The only amp remotely close to this is a Diezel

  • @cortem762

Gotta admit, the last thing that comes to mind when I hear a recto is "tight". When i think tight, I honestly think of Diezel, Engl, and higher gained Marshalls.

  • god i hate marshall cabs -.- really try your mesa on a orange cab (4x12 the 400watts version) sound much better to my ears

  • @Petrasilchen YOU hate it.. What if he likes it?

  • @SinisterFlames :D ... then he likes it and i don`t, where`s the problem :D as i said the orange hp cab sounds better to MY ears it`s just a tip of me to try these cab :D just a matter of opinion i just said mine :D

  • How much does sound change by changing bottom 4x12 cabinet speakers to for example between Mesa and Marshall? Huge tone difference is Head correct?

  • hey can you plug in 3 guitarsat once in this thing

  • @DECIFERTHIS09 well you can with a morley abc switch but its gonna sound like shit!

  • Add more bass, reduce treble

  • why'd you go with the marshall cab?? i have one too, but i like the sound of a mesa with a mesa. Just trying to get some more opinions and views.

  • holy shit it sounds fucking nice

  • The best Mesa amps are their Mark series. The Mark IV is really good. The Mark V is pretty damn good also. I always thought the Rectifier stuff was too buzzy.

    Diezel VH4 blows Rectifier away.

  • @squirttilithurts Had Mark Mesa's. They are not as "tight" as the Rec's for the current modern sound. Petrucci makes em sing though. The Deizel is a great amp. But for the working musician, they can have reliability issues.

  • man...it's amazing how much better and more organic sounding the rectoverb is. I've used (unwillingly) the other rectos and other than the rodkings the verb's and trems are the only ones i like. it's got monster mids, milkshake thick and isn't flubby. it sounds a lot like my Marshall's but, with balls.

  • hey... nice video... plz one quick question... i want to buy a mesa triple. I am a bedroom player and i want to know if this amp will satisfy me in the house with neighboors...

I dont like other amps except a little bit the engls . But mesa is mesa... so what am i going to do ?

  • @aris17561 It sounds great at low levels too. But it'll shake the windows when you want.

  • I wish I had money like these Youtube guitar players then I could afford all this shit too

  • mi randall rx120d sounds fucking better than this shit

  • mesas rock my uncle has one with a marshall 1960 half cab it sounds great its not that mesa its different and prolly better but it looks the same

  • mesas rock my uncle has one with a marshall 1960 half cab it sounds great

  • Sounds like AM radio. Why do people even bother posting non mic'd clips of 3000 dollar amps?

  • Sounds like its tuned down, would love to hear it in standard tuning.

  • i dont like sound of mesa boogie .. i prefer british sound like a marshall jtm, or jcm800

  • my randall solid state sounds better than this shit

  • awesome 5 cent camera mic sound

  • i'll never have this :<

  • I have a question...

Can a Dual Rectifier get me a great Melodic Death Metal tone (WITHOUT a boost/overdrive pedal)

(ie At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity, old In Flames, old Soilwork)

If so what cab goes great with that type of tone?

What tubes should I use ect.

Gear I use...Ibanez RG1527M 7-string w/stock pickups (though I wanna change them out for Seymour Duncans)

  • @MachineGunMessiah Yes. As for a cab that all depends on what if you want standard or over-sized, what type of speakers, etc. Avatar cabs might be the best route for a cab as you can pick a lot of the features to suit your needs. Factory Mesa tubes aren't too shabby but depending on what tubes you want you may or may not have to swap them out. IMO 6L6 tubes are darker and more complex sounding than EL34's. EL34s are punchier and more midrangey with a nice growl.

  • @MachineGunMessiah

The Rectifier serious are really loose and flubby without a boost... this amp basically has to have a tubescreamer or overdrive pedal for any sort of metal.

  • @Bojiggles1214 I dunno what Rectifier you were playing through, but my guitarist uses a Triple Rectifier and that thing is "balls to the wall" loud, and it's really fat and chunky sounding too.

  • @Bojiggles1214 Also, you were more than likely playing with the tube rectifiers on. There is a switch in the back that allows you to choose between solid state and tube rectifiers. The SS will give the sound you are looking for.

  • @MachineGunMessiah ...this amp has pleny of metal tone...it takes a good ear to set it up the correct way...for cabs i recommend a marshall cab with vintage 30s or an Orange cab as they both have a really nice mid range distortion when pushed by a really good tube amp. if you play metal i advise you to buy the seymour duncan invader pickup for your guitar. just my thoughts

  • @MachineGunMessiah BLS fan ? :D

  • @raquel1234ful

I'm am indeed a BLS fan

  • @MachineGunMessiah Yes it will give you a great metal sound, whether you're mainly a chugger or a shredder. Most shredders that hate on this amp don't know that there is a switch that allows for solid state and tube rectifier choices. If you're shredding a lot, switch to the diode rectifier . If you're mostly a chugger, the tube rectifier will sound really good.

  • Awesome amp. The video helped me to decide and bought one.

  • sounds thin...

  • Sounds nice, but I still prefer my Mesa 50/50 power amp + Rocktron Voodu valve preamp combination going through my Marshall 1960A cab.

  • dat cab ruined all

  • Tone is amazing for metal, just as Mesa is known for, and good playing too, no offense, and I know I can't talk cuz i suck at it too, but the bends dont sound like they were well planned. my friend's guitar teacher showed me the difference between like a well planned bend and a random bend, and the well planned obviously sounded better, you're great, but idk, just trying to give a little advice, and please dont bash me cuz i know i'm not better than you

  • I picked up one of those about a month ago. I'm gonna swap out the 6L6 with some EL34 for a cleaner tone. Solid amp.

  • What is another awesome, affordable metal amp besides this one?

  • @xXlopoXx Randall

  • @xXlopoXx Check out Bugera 333xl,very affordable,very high gain

  • Nice... but you can't beat a Marshall JMP45!

  • So what exactly does a "rectifier" amp do? what makes it different?

  • @graffthemetalhead Simple man its called tube sag. Most tube amps actually use solid state rectifiers but the dual recto's use 2x5AU4 Valves to power the rectifier which the peak sound is not reached immediately like on solid state rectifiers. Its all on personal preference personally I love those rectifier tubes!

  • am I the only one who thinks this sounds kind of shitty?

  • i thing im ganna go for the dual rec.

  • really scooped mids right?

  • Not at all...the knob was somewhere between 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock

  • ah dece

  • @drucifer42301

Oh so it does go to 11...

  • @drucifer42301 its the marshall cab, that cab has a VERY scooped sound, hence why im selling mine

  • @Xxsynysterg8sxX

marshall cabs with 75w celestions making it sound scooped. it would sound different with v30s speakers since its a more middy speaker, although i prefer the 75w marshalls

  • why would you spend that much money? Not being rude, just wondering. Most people wait there whole lives for an amp like this lol

  • Because at the time my credit card limit was higher than my I.Q. Probably still is actually LOL

  • haha. Cant blame ya there man. If I had the cash, id buy one myself!

  • @drucifer42301 epic win!

  • @drucifer42301 I've been thinking about it cause I figure that amp would last me the rest of my life >.<

  • @drucifer42301 LMAO

  • @AustinGoodProduction i have wanted a dual rec since forever i still don't have the budget or room to play it in. so i will be waiting my whole life to get one and dammit it will be worth it

  • @AustinGoodProduction because pros use great tube amps...you really cant know shit about amps if you dont know that this amp is one of a few "holy grail" amps.....noob

  • @honorguitar25 1, hes not a pro. 2. I own A Engl pball, and a mesa mark IV. Noob? Yeah, Im succhhh a noob.

  • @honorguitar25

the rectifier line is far from a "holy grail"...ive owned two different rectifiers in the past, and what ive realized is people who think this amp is the best out there, really havent tried much else.

Try a Hughes & Kettner, VHT, Splawn, Diezel, or Engl and still try and tell somebody that mesa rectos are the "holy grail" lol

  • @gtrball7600 i've heard that same response from people, people thinking that this is the be all and end all of all amp then only end up selling them 2 months down the line.

  • @gtrball7600 How would you compare the Fireball to the higher-end Marshalls..or at least the ones that can provide a really good distorted channel?

  • @honorguitar25 I own one. A Roadster 100W head. Shit is amazing, thought of selling it for a Mark V. But I may as well just get another MESA.

  • @honorguitar25 "because pros use great tube amps..."

LOL so all pros use tube amps huh? well, dimebag darrel used solid state randalls to record all of pantera's albums. listen kid, stop calling other people noobs when you don't even have a clue.

you're just another one of those people who jump on the tube amp wagon and shout "OMFG THROW THAT SHITTY SOLID STATE AWAY AND GET A TUBE AMP!"

  • @AustinGoodProduction People spend six times what this amp is worth on cars, fake tits, hair implants, jewelry, drugs and women. so if that is what makes people happy more power to them. I myself would rather have a Marshall major 200 but I am just old school like that.

  • @AustinGoodProduction dude i'm 15 and bought this amp today i've been playing for 5 years but if you save your money for awhile and sell crap that you don't use you should have enough

  • @garrettmiranda Anyone CAN buy the amps. I just don't find mesa's worth the money at all. My AXE FX sounds better then the real thing, and it has a ton more then just one amp.

  • @AustinGoodProduction yea its all about what sound you as a guitarist likes

  • @AustinGoodProduction why not? people buy expensive cars, houses, etc... why not an expensive amp? you have to own one to appreciate it's value.

  • Comment removed

  • agree completely. wtf are those chords at the beginning

  • They are dissonant chords.

  • You know what? I just watched your videos, and you're right...you win. I bow to your superiority.

  • Lawlz. ya dude I recorded those a super long time ago and I'm better now if you're being sarcastic. Plus I have a whole new set up and I actually started caring abut tone.... I just wanted to be fast, and I sucked at it.

  • youtube wars!!!!

  • I do really like your tone actually :)

  • @drucifer42301 lool, i didnt know u were being sacarstic

  • @DontWetYourself this is correct

  • @DontWetYourself DUde you just got owned. You can't go around telling people they suck when you cant prove you better

  • @DontWetYourself Yea the dudes just letting us hear the tone... sheesh

  • @DontWetYourself seriously? Come on man.

  • @DontWetYourself Ha, you are joking right? You are a freaking tool and a half.

  • 00:30 is a brilliant riff :)

  • Where are your settings at in this video?

  • how much bass did you have on this?

  • @clayhe i bet he did his best he could

i went to check out one today to see it for myself. fukin shiiiit. so synthetic.

  • Guys when I use the output as my volume on my Recto, where should I adjust the send/return knob at the back of the amp.

  • I just played a Dual Rectifier Solo head yesterday, through a Marshall 4x10 cab, and it blew me away. My little amp head if I had about $1400.

  • ok someone please help me... i have a mesa boogie triple rectifier with a mesa boogie 4x12 cab and honestly i cant get it so as good as i think it should.. can someone please please help me out, perhaps some setings, maybe i just have the settings set bad???

  • The eq is interactive so when you turn up the treble it automatically cuts the bass a little and visa versa.... makes it hard to dial in sounds but it gives you heaps of control. Set everything at 12 o'clock (not your master volume!...... yet) and go from there. Also make sure it's on the solid state rectiier setting if you want it to sound heavy. Also what do you use it for? They're massive amps, maybe 150 watts is too much power and you aren't able to crank it enough to let it open up.....

  • @665nxtdoortothedevil i play alot of blink 182 green day sum 41 alot of punk rock stuff... but i cant quite get the sound i know it can make.... how much of a difference is there from channel 2 and 3? also what is the solid state rectifier? lol no gona lie i never heard of it :/

  • They are quite similar tone-wise but 3 has more gain, if you want it to sound similar to those bands i'd crank the gain on channel 2 more-so than cutting the gain back on channel 3, set the midrange somewhere between 3-5 <---scooped]and bass and treble between 6-8. On the back panel there will be a switch where you can choose between silicon diode or tube rectification, make sure it's on silicon diode (solid state) it'll tighten the tone up. Turn the amp off before you switch it though.

  • Those eq settings are just a place to start, the tone you're looking for should be somewhere between there, make sure you make really small adjustments, also if you're not cranking the master volume past half way it isn't gonna sound great and i cant think of many situations where you'd be able to with a triple rectifier.... unless you're playing pretty big clubs at-least. If none of that helps you might need new tubes.

  • @665nxtdoortothedevil great thanks man im gonna work on it!

  • No problem dude, good luck....

  • @665nxtdoortothedevil

A dude who seems to know his Mesa's.. I'm also in need of some help, I just recently got a dual rec and I'm having a hard time achieving tones I know it can get. I'm going for a nice melodic/hardcore/metalcore type of sound, that's what our band is, I love Killswitch Engages tone (that's the tone I'm trying to achieve) and I use a Boss NS-2 and a Maxon OD808 to tighten my tone. Any suggestions on possible EQ settings that would get me close to that tone?

  • @Bojiggles1214 you need to buy some SD Blackouts!

  • @665nxtdoortothedevil

Also when you say you need the master cranked at least past 12:00, do you mean the output, or the master control for that channel? At home I usually have my output around 7:30-8 and my master (on channel 3) around 11:30 12ish. At band practice I can usually crank it more but how loud does it have to be actually before the true tone starts opening up?

  • Yeah the single output volume that governs all the channels is the one you want to crank, past halfway is ideal but as close as you can get is fine, but at the same time you still want the channel volume high too, like if the channel volume is on 2 and the master is cranked it kinda defeats the purpose (i definitely dont want to make it sound like i know it all though, there'd be better places to get advice... i just figured if i could help out i would)

  • I usually have my gain set to around 1 on my 3rd modern channel so I know what you mean about over-saturation can ruin your tone. But thanks for the advice.

  • The other thing i would say is you're almost always more distorted than you think, like to other people ears you may sound over saturated (same goes with treble) like i found when i turned the gain down i got the tone i was looking for, alot of my problem was oversaturation and lack of clarity but once my ears adjusted to less distortion i realised how much better the tone was. An overdrive makes a huge difference but use it like a volume boost, set the gain low and the volume high.

  • is all about the overall output volume you have. more volume you got, more power you use to push the limits of the power tubes and amp gets cranked. the point your amp gets cranked depends on the power of the amp, so if its a triple rectifier with 150watts, youd probably need an output level which is too high you cant even stand in front of the cabinets. thats why people usually prefer 50-100w alltube amps for gigs even maybe 30's over 150's if they dont have a power attenuator.

  • for tube power amps, the saturation comes in at around 11:00 on the global master volume. Turn the input gain down and turn that up to get a more gutsy sound at low volumes.

  • By input gain do you mean the channels master volume..?

  • yeah.

  • @Blink182PunkRocker just keep tweeking it takes month before you start getting the best of sound u like if you cant do it sell it and get a simpler amp mesa aint the best there other brands that match it bogner engl ect

  • Comment removed

  • fuck you, engl is shit, why do you think every good metal band uses mesa over engl

  • Comment removed

  • before you go and pay someone out, you should learn how to fucking spell, because it's discraceful that you can't even figure out that there's a B after the M in DUMBASS instead of a P... and why's mesa so crap then if metallica, cannibal corpse, cradle of filth, as i lay dying, bullet for my valentine, and numerous other bands use them? if popular bands use them, then mesa must be pretty damn good...

  • thats false logic. just because some popular bands use them doesn't mean they are good. the only way to know if you like something is to try it out

  • if they weren't good, why would someone bother paying heaps of money for them? it'd be a big waste of money to buy an amp that's shit

  • and yet so many people think that mesa's are the be all and end all of amps, and i don't find them to be very great at all really. people waste money on amps they find to be shit all the time. thats why you always find people selling them on your local craigslist

  • That doesnt mean anything...i have seen Bogners, Framus, Engl, and even Diezels on craigslist. THe recto isnt the be all end all of amplifiers...but it is a pretty good amp....its all about finding your tone and tweaking the amp

  • Metallica uses marshalls, mesas, and kranks in the studio, As I lay dying use randalls, and BFMV's lead gutiarist uses a peavey 6505 dude the only thing mesa they use is their cabs. Mesas don't cut through the mix that well their not all that (they are good amps though not saying they aren"t but they dont sound that good by themselves) and just because gear is endorsed by big names does not mean quality (*cough* Krank *cough*).

  • to further this- the metallica boys have never had good tone anyway (lets be serious, they scooped the shit out of their tone in the 80's to disastrous effect so that the bass and bass drums are inaudible on their albums) and death magnetic further proves they don't know shit about tone. as i lay dying uses marshalls live. Mesa's are way overated. the top end sounds sizzly and they don't cut. 5150's are wayy better metal amps along with engl's, bogners, diezel, rivera knucklehead, vht, etc

  • last time i checked..... they don't............ for example- jeff loomis used to used mesa's and he switched to engl

  • that's not shit, that's just different !

  • Shut the fuck up, have you ever even played an ENGL? Doubtful, you've probably never played a Mesa either.

  • why else would i be saying mesa's fucking better than engl if i haven't played both? yeah, i might've said that mesa's are better than engl because alot of good bands use them, but there's a reason for that...

  • Ya, it's called preference. Both Mesa an ENGL are on par with each other quality-wise. Also, Mesa has been around longer then ENGL.

  • engl has too much treble and presence and i know that mesa is better though i havent played mesa ever :D

  • For me it is not so much that they are American made but that they are a Local company less than 20 miles from my house.

    I love Mesa Boogie.

  • the tone sounds like 3 days grace...

  • Very choppy sounding

  • That is the exact same setup I want. I use an Ibanez RG7321 check out my page.

  • better guitar player please

  • Mesas never really sounded that great to me. Especially for their price tag. I prefer Soldanos, although they are really expensive too, they sound way better

  • framus cobra sound good

  • All the recordings of Framus Cobras i've heard sound awful imo. But I have a really selective taste. I like hot rodded Marshall sounds with tight and punchy low end. Like Soldano and Splawn for example. But the Framus is something i personally think is way to overpriced

  • i think they are harder to set up, my friend Joe Taylor from cycle of pain and doro pesch uses one live it sounded really good, maybe it doesnt sound good at low volume

  • I played one at Guitar Center last night, I was amazed how good it sounded at a low volume, compared to the Marshall JVM.

  • Now i know im going to be B.S. for saying this, but i was stuck between this amp and the jmv 410h. I found imo that the JVM actually had more gain then the Mesa, so i went with the JVM. Im sure i will add a mesa to my arsenal in the future however.

  • Marshall, Sunn, Orange, Fender, Mesa, greatest amps out there

  • Can someone explain to me why the **** they're so expensive.

  • I don't see why they would be cheap.

  • Because they are made in America by people who give a damn instead of an assembly line in Korea.

  • Because of the wattage, more watts = more money, it's 150 watts of tube power, which is absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary unless you're planning on playing on the clean channel at a volume that would deafen anyone withing a 1-mile radius, and most ppl do not get Rectos because they plan on doing that but because of the drive channels which they'll never play at such volumes therefore they wasted their money and should've gotten a Single recto (or Dual if they want rectifier tubes)

  • i prefere engl tbh

  • wow learn how to fucking play your guitar...this sounds like ass

  • Dude I think I like what I am hearing, more brutal than the mesa oversized, I have one, it is just in your face BASS, did you try the mesa cab? I might trade it for the same cab as yours, I have a Dual Rect.

  • I got a 30 watt behringer to replace my 15 watt sucky crate and that 30 watt for me is LOUD!!!!!......it's also got built in effects 99 to be exact...

  • Digital module amps are getting real good. But something about digital distortion that I can always pick out. Tubes cannot be replaced for that warmth and tube saturation. Its just those amps cost way too much and are a bitch to maintain

  • I actually prefer the digital sound over the tube sound occasionally. For example the fender vintage sounds horrrible to me while some higher end line 6 products sound like perfect metalcore material to me. But i love the modern sound of the mesa 3xrec.

  • high end line 6 are usually tube amp, like the spider valve and stuff

  • Yeah, the Vetta II

  • never heard of it. illl check it out. bogners are awesome too

  • Nvm. Those are tubes. But there pretty damn sweeet.

  • That's got almost like an all that remains kinda sound bro perfect metalcore tone for sure

  • The Vetta II?

  • -_- a triple rectifier is a tube amp

  • what are you eq setting for this? sounds awesome.

  • So what band you in?

  • And unfortunately its those bands that get given amazing gear for free... but its those same bands that in fiteen years time people look back and say "Why the fuck were we into thAT shit?" whereas I never ever heard anyone say that about the eagles or early metallica, So i think eventually the public do click on... it just takes them a little longer! But fuck ya only live once... Giid on all these pop bands that are doing well... Im just jealous.

  • lol, that's not true at all. people who like a certain music when they're younger will usually like it for the rest of their lives.

  • Like how you love the cock?

Thats not what Im talking about. people grow out of corny music all the time when they realise its corny...

  • oh good one, dude i have no problems with gay people so the "loving the cock" comment doesn't offend me. most people like bands their whole life, look at the people who still listen to foreigner, van halen, lover boys ect. corny bands, still much beloved.

  • one thing that i would like to add now, is that i went to a guitar center and tried a triple rectifier and pod x3 live side to side with the same exact settings. and it came close, very close actually, but to get the sound to really match i needed to add EQ to it.

  • wtf's on the right of that?
