This is a fabulous cutting-edge digital camera great for taking pictures, but not so good for taking video clips (particularly slow motion). The 12.5x optical zoom is exceptional and coupled with this the Multi Frame SR Zoom (separate to the digital zoom) makes the overall zoom 25x with clarity. ...

Hey, I have another question. How do you upload your footage from this camera. Do you sue the mini USB wire? When I try to upload, even when filmed in hd the footage becomes very grainy.
I have the same camera but I have a bit of a problem. When I am filming in 120 fps after about 30 seconds of filming, when the video is watched over many frames are skipped and it creates a laggy video. Any ideas?
@dataguttene Because the higher FPS = much more data is required and if you keep the resolution high, it goes up even higher, thus requiring higher end camera and memory card. To keep costs down, the resolution is lowered as you go up in FPS. Hence why high quality slow mo vids you see on TV are shot with cameras that cost thousands of dollars but show great results, its a trade off.
If anyone wants to shoot high-speed HD - I bought a Sanyo Xacti HD1010 for $350 in summer 2009, it shoots 720p HD at 60fps (yes, that is frames, not fields), example: /watch?v=nbaXwkJTEBk&t=1m00s It also does 448 x 336 300FPs, I wish it did 640 x 480 120fps like this one though :)
@AndromedaRoach The followup HD2000 (or FH1) does 1080p60 down to 192x108@600fps. Looks like they degraded the 448x336 to 240fps and 720p to 30fps, however. Strange that a video camera manufacturer decides to do less usable video than Casio (in particular, the 30-120 mode).
Thank you for posting this VERY educational video. I have been waiting for someone to do a simple progression of speed changes that also illustrate the degradation of resolution at the higher ttwo speeds (420 and 1000 fps). :-)
@adamothirteen According to the manual, it stores video as Motion JPEG AVI, IMA-ADPCM audio (stereo). That means all frames are independent, it can be cut anywhere, but on the other hand requires quite high data rates. It takes 720p30 at 30Mb/s (megabit, not byte), VGA at 10Mb/s, and high-speed modes at 50Mb/s except 1000fps which is 25Mb/s. That's also why there is an awful lot of "haloing" in the 1000fps clip - if they didn't compress it more than the others, it would look better.
Fantastic. Thanks for the video. My brain is exploding inside.
I saw this video many times and have a few questions to ask.
1. Did you jump 5 times to get the different fps shots? I guess not. How do we get different fps settings for the same video?
2. The camera actually moved from left to right as you were jumping. How did you do this? The person holding the camera must be really good at his/her job.
3. Is the lighting good enough or did you use special lighting?
i would really appreciate it if u could tell me how you enlarged the clips and what software u did it on as i want to know how to make them bigger for the movies i make, because the resolution is small on 240 and up
Excellent video to demonstrate the qualities of the high speed video. I can see anything above 240 fps has terrible quality and wouldn't be acceptable for much. I have been debating the merits of a high speed camera and how I know I won't use this feature much. Thanks for posting!

Why does the quality of the image degrees the slower you go?
VinnyLT9000 1 year ago
@VinnyLT9000 because it takes time to capture large images, and when you only have 1/1000 of a second, you can't make it 1080p

420 is pretty much the highest (useful) slow motion fps for this camera, because 1000 fps is just plain blurry and it is only a strip of video.
