  • Well I don't really understand why a soccer mom needs 4wd, but I live in East Texas and believe it or not my trucks 4x4 has gotten me outa more than one bad situation

  • Guess where my parents lived when we had a 4.0 litre 2007 Jeep, a 6.0 litre Audi Q7 and a BMW M3?

No, you guessed wrong-we lived in Blackheath, London.

  • HAHAHAHA We'll convert that from Euro-Babble into English.. (all while giving the finger!) hahahaha Love that British humor !! hahahaa

  • If he lived in Alaska instead of England, maybe his review would be different.

  • If this was Top Gear then he would've run over the wooden gate, done a few dougnuts, shot a cow and then lit the car on fire at the end of the show...

  • them land cruisers are still not cheap to buy used in the day of 1.40 a litre but they do convert to lpg quite nicely.

  • and Jeremy Clarkson owns a Range Rover xDDD

  • Check out how cheap that fuel is!

  • @snackajacques Just so you know that is in Pounds, not dollars.

  • @Mavrickr Yeh. I'm from the UK. Super cheap!

  • That's an imperial gallon! US gallon is 3.78 liters or 7.6 MPG.

  • lol at the women saying it's safer. HA they are even more dangerous in a womans hands

  • Im sure for those women it feels nice being up high when driving, but lets say, god forbid everyone drivies suvs and pick ups, then you wouldnt get to look look down and be above other people in normal cars, and the part about feeling safe goes away too to since suvs lose their size advantage when crashing into another suv.

  • Im sure for those women it feels nice being up high when driving, but lets say, god forbid everyone drivies suvs and pick ups, then you wouldnt get to look look down and be above other people in normal, and the part about feeling safe goes away too to since suvs lose their size advantage when crashing into another suv.

  • that discovery didnt have abs jeremy, thats why it stopped so poorly

  • @xRAMxDOD I think everyone knew that bit how silly would he have looked if they had used a 2000 td5 disco like mine and it had stooped miles sooner than all the others. Just one of the problems with file if a 4x4 is doing good its a 4x4 / jeep if it is doing bad it's a land rover or a range rover. Which should be the other way round just people don't see it like that.

  • Wow! Look at the petrol price! 76.9!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol @ "euro babble". Unfortunately, most of the modern world uses the metric system for obvious reasons, minus the two countries with superiority complex ;P

  • Every school should have an offroad course to entertain the kids, parents could pay to do this and money goes to upkeep of schools? The teachers could show the kids why they need to learn transposition and algebra.Regards LandRoverPETER and yes most schools have green areas that need an extra edge.

  • There's nothing a SUV does that a pick-up truck or minivan cant do better. A pick-up is way better at towing stuff, and a minivan is better at hauling kids and cargo. The only reason people buy SUVs are tough, outdoorsy image. Clarkson was dead on about the people who drive them.

  • This just makes me pissed. My mum and dad are thinking of hiring a range rover to do some off roading and i dont like it how someone ells gets killed in a crash in their small pathetic hatchback. Fuck these soccoer mums and their SUV's!

  • Me and my dad were driving home, and a driver driving an Acura MDX hit the gas too early at a green light. He slammed straight into the Hyundai Sonata in front of him, annihilating the Sonata's rear bumper. The SUV didn't even have a scratch on it.

    Proof of concept right there.

  • Did you see the price of that? 20.85 Litres for only £16.04, wish it was like that now :(

  • 76.9p heh that takes me back. Shame we are never going to see sub £1 a litre prices anymore... *sigh*

  • The top two comments are similar... Funny..

  • Please can someone tell me the music, when Jeremy leavs the road at 3:03 ?

  • @AlejjSi Road to Nowhere - Talking Heads

  • @R33Racer Thank you ! :)

  • Lol, anyone find it ironic how the people they interviewed who drive ''offroaders'' were all women? I guess he's trying to make a point by saying women buy them so that they're ''bigger'' than everyone else, not that they have any legitimate purpose on actually owning one.

  • @toyoracing89 unless of course we're talking WINTER

  • @swassbruh You didn't really pay attention to the underlying hints or clues as to what he was trying to get across. A lot of people buy them for their own ego, not for their intended purpose. But, then again, this wouldn't be the first time JC has made a sexest and rather arrogant statement about someone about something lol.

  • @toyoracing89 it's true, he does say random but funny shit. i think that's just the comedian in him. honestly yeah of course there is tradeoffs to the size. seriously my brother in law has a f350 super duty that is jacked to the nines, a super exhaust and chip mods. he works out on the pipelines and makes mad money to pay for this monster, the startling thing is he does need it to get him there because of the chinooks they get out by the rockies. I don't know what is with canada and f'in snow.

  • @swassbruh Lol, snow and pancakes. Yeah, I mean there are quite a few people out there who buy 4WD's for their intended purpose. But there's a lot more of people who buy them just because they're bigger, or it gives them this image of ''tough''. Half of these rigs you see out here with 6'' or more inches of lift are just trailer queens that they drive back and forth to work. They've never seen a hard days work in their lives.

  • 76.9 p wow lol

  • Its soo stupid how all the soccermoms drive SUV's so if they crash they're fine but they do total the other person. SUV's are very dangerous in a womans hands.

  • @Regret696 mate even a supermarcket trolley is friking dangerous in the hands of a woman

  • @Regret696 any car in a woman's hand is dangerous

  • @Regret696 You're dam right!! Dam women driving huge vehicles to save their own lives yet the only one they should be afraid of them is themselves.

  • @Regret696 Isnt almost everything? ALMOST.....

  • @Regret696 Woman drivers, no survivors.

  • @Regret696 What do you mean "if they crash", it should be "when they crash".

  • @Regret696

SUVs aren't even safe for the drivers. If you hit something with any kind of speed you're just going to roll over and die a fiery death.

  • @Regret696 better than a minivan, which is outdated, dangerous, and not mini

  • @Regret696 anything but a plastic knife and a spatula are dangerous in a woman's hands

  • 16.04$ for a little over 20 litres. Try that today

  • @patch74 What! thats giving petrol away. At present in Ireland petrol it is at €1.52 a liter thats that is $9.32 a gallon basically 10 dollars a gallon , So people in america have to cop on with this " its very expensive stuff" ITS NOT EXPENSIVE IN AMERICA AT ALL! Petrol prices need to at least double in america! then ye can start crying about it.

  • @22b4 were used to paying $1 a gallon it's $3.50+ were i live and thats cheap the price is up over 350%

  • @dankebuddha also in canada its $5.30 a gallon

  • @22b4 Keep in mind that most of us make about $25,000 a year or less, and we have to pay thousands more in health care and other necessities. Our budgets are strained, trust me. $9.32 a gallon would see everything come to a halt.

  • he was using his middle finger to calculate @ 0:51

  • heres a better way of putting this off road cars are for country people like me!!!

  • Jeremy Clarkson is trying to troll off roaders?

More like ignorant Britain middle-class babble.

  • @axelnemeth it was a joke. he was "babbling" about them being idiots to add some humor when he said he has an offroader too... i think hes not the ignorant one here

  • How are they useless if u live on a farm

  • you guys can all fuck off saying off roaders are useless and not needed you dont even know why we probebly need them and i have a 4 litre jeep but do i care........... no so stop having a go at us for having them its our choice to have them not yours no go charge up your battery powered shit box

  • press 3 and wait for a couple of seconds... jeremy clarkson jizzing in his pants

  • The Jeep Compass or Patriot can do all of that and they get 25-30MPG

  • @Daikenhunter uhh more like 15-20mpg if ur lucky

  • @elbinar if you're getting only 15mpg in a Compass your doing something wrong. I average 24mpg and I'm pretty aggressive.

  • No other 4x4 will do for me but the Range Rover. My Dad had a Discovery and a Defender when we lived overseas though and they were bloody good vehicles. But the Rangey is just so comfortable and refined. But an LPG might be a good buy haha!

  • can someone tell me the name of the piece of music that is playing from the beginning of the video till 0:18 ? Thankyou

  • I didn´t know that the Landcruiser 80 came with a Petrol engine. Presumably just in Norway that one was a Diesel only, if it was.

  • Wow, Jeremy Clarkson had a TOYOTA LANDCRUISER. Bet it was more reliable than his land rovers....

  • This is why I'm happy to have a 1.2L 16V 6 speed Fiat Punto, that does 52 MPG if driven nicely and carefully. Sure, in town it's not that great, it does about 45MPG, but it's still really reasonable, and the car still gets me to where I need to go.

An SUV/Offroader doesn't make me feel safer or superior, has a higher insurance, eats more fuel, is harder to park, and is simply not fun!

  • talking heads rd to nowhere!so shut your mouth lol

  • Can anyone tell me the name of the song that starts at 1:39? I recognise it from years ago but can't remember the name.

  • @87tubechrisd it's world shut your mouth

    watch?v=aMPTZL_IC1Y

  • @87tubechrisd "World Shut Your Mouth" by Julian Cope

  • Jeremy doesn't know what engine he has. If it's a 24 valve, it's a 4.5 litre. Good for about 14mpg. Still the important thing is Jezza chose the right 4x4! I do find it humerous that given the clearance between Jeremy's head and the roof that it's his kid getting knocked about.

  • 0.01

  • whanna see a monster? come to iceland =D

  • that is not a beast that i barly a toy. in the US i drive a chevy 2500 HD its got a 6.0 leater V8 and i love it. not only would i not out pull it i could do it in 2 wheel drive. lol You UK guys can keep your cute lil toys ill tack a real mans truck.

  • @UN4GIVENx666

I'm sure you'll still love your gas guzzler once petrol over there hits 8USD per gallon.

Personally I am quite happy with my tiny econobox that gets 60+ MPG on petrol.

  • @UN4GIVENx666 ure messed. IN THE UK WE CAN GET A 6 LITER V8 RANGE ROVER

  • @UN4GIVENx666 yeah but your truck does 9 gallons to the mile

  • Stone me. £0.77p per liter. Those were the days. (about 4 years ago I think)

I paid £1.32 about 3 hours ago and that is cheap in my area in the UK.

  • @nogdog472 really, i paid £1.27 for a litre, unless you are talking about diesel

  • @dahorn100011 Alas no. Diesel has always been more expensive. £1.36 today still, that means £6.099p per gallon.

For our ex colonial allies at today's exchange rate, £6.099 = $9.86 !!!

Or put into very simple terms, based on...

30 mpg, that is £0.20 per mile or $0.33

20 mpg, that is £0.30 per mile or $0.49

10 mpg, that is £0.61 per mile or $0.99

My 4x4 diesel now runs off a blend of HHO, WVO and the odd top up of regular diesel. But our other car is unleaded and even at 45mpg is a killer.

  • @nogdog472 the thing about your car is a bummer, my car only does 35mpg at best, and one of my parents cars does 20-25mpg

  • @nogdog472 wrong diesel was cheaper originaly

  • @nogdog472 Try 14 years ago.

  • kinda makes me wanna buy a hummer h1 and move to the UK. and have a really big sticker on the back with the US flag. possible a rebel flag (im not a redneck)

  • But more important than this is the safety: "It's the sort of vehicle that if YOU hit someone, you'd be very confident that you'd KILL every single motherf@cker in that other car." Ouh Yeah! Suck on that lesser mortals driving ordinary cars, MWAHAHAHA!!!

  • Give it up for Jeremy Clarkson! The coolest dad in the world =D

  • JEREMY KLAKSON

  • I crushed the side of a Toyota in my Miata and the only thing that got dented was my number plate. Ha ha!

  • i crushed the backside of a taxis saloon in an armada and the only thing that got dented was my number plate lol

  • this american engineer wishes we would switch to metric. but, you must understand that Industry (yes, with a capital I) has invested unquantifiable amounts of money in to charts, tables, standards, and optimized processes- all of which use the imperial system. for america (and some certain industries that exist elsewhere), switching to metric would be profoundly expensive and time consuming. it needs to happen, in my opinion, but for now everyone's opinion is: it works- and we can all get along

  • Anyone is Australia or Africa will soon tell you which 4x4 vehicle is the best.

    Those who know, know.

There's only 1 brand of offroad 4x4. There's only 1 brand which is reliable, tough, strong, servicable and able to carry a tonne of equipment across any desert for months on end.

There's only 1 4x4, and those that know, know....

  • "This is mine!"

How can you not love this man? lol

  • Euro babel lol

  • just get a rally car

  • In braking test the only vehicle with no ABS was Land Rover. How can they take test results in consideration?

  • I hate offroad vehicles and I have one 2 get my kids to skool on time. What a f****ing idiot

  • lol!

you could drive any car tru that "off road" shortcut to school

  • wow..he did all these calculations without James May

  • 9 mpg? I think a diesel Excursion could beat that, the 7.3 liter one. Then again it's a diesel, then again it seats 8. Maybe not fair then...

  • @DuckwalkSupreme mine gets 12mpg on a good day

  • @opmotocrosser That seems kinda low, compared to what I read and hear from owners of that particular Excursion. Plus, I just remembered that the Imperial Gallon is slightly larger than the US gallon. So in US units he got less than 9 mpg.

  • @DuckwalkSupreme Clarkson isn't above doing burn outs at every traffic light to get "better" numbers for his point. Not that i care, just don't take anything he says as scientific fact.

  • @JCGver Oh, I realize that he isn't an objective, unbiased source for information. But he's entertaining and can be informative when he wants to. I watch Top Gear when I can, through Youtube and BBC America, but the only way to get somewhat recent stuff is through Youtube because the episodes I've seen on BBC America are all a couple of years old. I tolerate all of his American-bashing, some of it deserved, a lot of it not, because he is entertaining. Your English is far superior to my Dutch : )

  • @DuckwalkSupreme im in the US

  • @opmotocrosser USA! USA! USA! My last comment was actually directed at JCGver, who, according to his channel, is Dutch or whetever you call folks from the Netherlands.

  • @DuckwalkSupreme oh haha okay yea it said @opmotocrosser so i thought it was to me

  • @opmotocrosser Oh yes, that was one of the other comments, but Mr. Dutch hasn't yet responded so you were free to jump in. Do you really do motocross?

  • @DuckwalkSupreme haha kay and yup i just got outt of it after i sold my bikes though i just dont have the money for gas/oil and new parts

  • You need one of these SUV's or else Riley will think you are a lame parent.

  • haha his last comment sums it all up.

"off-road cars are not good at avoiding accidents, but they're good at dealing with them"

this translates to "people who drive off-road cars cannot avoid accidents even if they wanted to; therefore, at the end of the day, an off-roader is a safer place for them"

  • I think all this about fuel economy is not quite true. If he is seriously only getting 9MPG, theres something wrong somewhere. Ive got a big pickup, which I use for work and also off road here and there, and its got a 2.5turbodiesel, I get about 400 miles to 60 quid of diesel.

  • @hoarp001 deisel keyword deisel

  • @hoarp001 it was a 4.0 v8 rangy ,9 is pretty good for them ,mite get 18 on a long run ...i say mite

  • An official BBC Youtube channel plastered with adverts?! I don't get it, I thought we paid a licence fee so we didn't have to sit through adverts?

  • Where is the rest of this clip???

  • I feel safer in my giant machine, so that if i hit anything, he, she or it will be dead and i will still be able to drive home with it, it gives me a god like feeling of being untouchable and makes me drive less careful, cause i just don't give a sh*t about anybody else.

Of course... I'm being sarcastic here and fully understand that the entire world is actually madly egotistical these days.

  • @hectorae86 .even practically u cant put the crush zones in a car with a chassis that you can in a monocoque ,then factor in the point that the body your in is only bolted to the chasis and you have two differant masses bolted together both trying to do there own thing when u hit something, plus the more mass you have the more momentum you have to get rid of when you crash.it gets transfered into you cos the chasis wont bend fast enough to absorb it.

  • Eh. My '98 Grand Cherokee Limited gets 9.5 mpg with the 5.2L V-8. See if I care what the Pious...er...Prius owners think.

  • @HachiZenki I bet what they don't think or know is that their car causes more harm to the environment before it leaves the factory than your jeep could cause in a decade. Believe it or not it's true. If you've seen the top gear interview with sea sick steve than your know what I'm talking about.

  • @Rogue284 Well yes the battery material they have to strip mine out of Peru causes more environmental harm than my crappy gas mileage.

  • Unless It's a volvo (!) most off-road cars are actually less safe than normal ones. A golf for example is much safer than a range rover. Visit ncap if you don't believe me !

  • @nickkaltsas maybe but i heard something about ncap that the safety of a car is only tested against a car of the same weight. So even if a golf is very safe against a lets say focus i think it will get owned by a 4×4 like this one. Im not 100 procent sure but I think that is how ncap tests go. Nonetheless volvo's are very safe! :D

  • @MrMyrmica You are probably right about this. But what if you hit a tree with a big 4x4 or a wall? In that case the car will have to withstand massively bigger forces. Anyway my point is, buying a 4x4 because it is safer is not really reasonable...

  • @MrMyrmica sure, according to that logic we'll all end up driving bulldozers, they're safest

  • that's the coolest school commute ever!!!!!

  • ok they're for stupid people... hey did you notice that all the drivers of that thing are women? im just sayin' :D

  • @fibroidtheking The majority of people i know who drive trucks today are men. But then again, i'm just saying. :D

  • That's why a good minivan is the best alternative. If you're not going off road, they have lower CofG, offer the same as or better protection in an accident, better handling, and get double the fuel economy. On top of that, they also offer an average of twice as many cubic feet of space as the average SUV.

  • your an idiot, id love to see you take a ride in my 5spd 89 f250 with a 6in lift and 38in bias ply tires, you'd be bitchin and moaning the whole drive, it rattle hear, its got so much body role, the shifts are hard, the straight pipe rattle makes me sick, but it ca n run over you pussy ass British cars. God bless the real men out there who ain't sitting in luxury and are lovin every minute of our blue color lives, something that Jeremy clearly knows nothing about.

  • @123ewq Jeremy is driving a toyota landcruiser. you would be hard pressed to find a better all around, go everywhere vehicle. A Taliban wet dream, wrapped in the best japan reliability, proven for nearly 50 years. moreover, for safety reasons... the kids are safe if ever a DUI monkey decides to not hit the brakes as he plows into you.

Keep your Ford rattle trap. Best thing about your truck is parts are found at Kragen.

  • @TedHoppe, the kids are safe in my truck, some one plows into ya, well there goin right into the bottum of my rear bumper or my 38's, keep in mind these REAL trucks are made of steel. And dont even try and give me the spare parts crap, Ford is the original, and has been proven for more than 100 years, best selling half ton truck for more than 25 years streaight. My truck has 160,000 miles on it, never needed a thing, and my dads has 180,000 with nothin other than changing the oil.

  • 76.9p.... sigh.... those were the days

  • jeremy that discovery could have stopped better if it had abs

  • "i keep bumping my head"

jeremy: "i know but its the fastest way to school"

  • metric system works so much better

  • @theguythatcould Miles per gallon makes more sense than liters per 100km

  • @MustangsCanTurnToo To Americans, yes.

  • @TraustiGeir Even the British use our system to some extent but not majority. I know the metric system and use it but it's whatever.

  • @MustangsCanTurnToo Yes, but if you just used km/liter, it works just as good.

  • @mynith They could, but they dont. Their cars are rated at liters per 100 km.

  • @MustangsCanTurnToo And why is that?

Here in Europe we use liter while filling our fuel tank, so its easier to calculate lt/100 km

  • @Freelandrew Easier to determine range of the car with the distance/ volume of fuel. Car holds 10 gallons and goes 30 miles per gallon. Range is volume multiplied by mileage and you get 300 miles. The other way, the car hold ten gallons and is rated at 3.33 gallons per 100 miles. 10/3.33=3 multiplied by 100 miles = 300 miles. It's just less math and more intuitive.

  • @theguythatcould Hardly.

  • People who have off road cars are stupid, mad, and not social... And this is mine ;)

  • @Pinguing1 Ya I'm with you my mom has an 08' Pathfinder

  • @Pinguing1 and i have 4!.... oh wait.... lol

  • funny how only women were interviewed....

  • 76.9 pence per litre... that makes me so nostalgic.

  • Everyone go out and buy a land rover discovery 2. They are amazing cars... TD5 rules....YEAAHH!!!! Land rovers for life....

  • 20 liters for 16 quid!!!!!!! fuck me this is OLD..

  • Owning and driving a big Landcruiser is expensive, not just to buy, but also to service and maintain. And that's not to mention the horrible fuel consumption.

If you live in the city, don't buy a large 4wd. It's insane.

But if you live in a outback area and you need one, then buy one.

I should know, I have 3 landcruisers and they cost ALOT of money to keep running. If i didn't have to go offroad just to get to the local shops, I would NEVER buy a 4wd. It would be crazy.

  • @ihaveairlockersI sometimes commute to Cambridge on my Scooter and you see things like Land Rovers behind you obviously being used as an urban runabout, really it's just so stupid. I live pretty rurally and you again see 4x4's around when a normal car would suffice, and there the sort of people who moan at high Road Tax. But one of my friends has a Trooper 4x4, which is used about once a week for towing big horse boxes across pretty uneven terrain, thats what they should be used for

  • haha 16 pounds for 20L wish i could pay that now

  • if someone hit's you in a SUV or you hit someone you will survive if you need to take a corner it will kill you normal cars don't kill you this way they kill you when you drive like a maniac and hit a tree or something along the side of the road and you're most likely to get hit by a mommy driving a SUV and you will dye so quit driving SUV's !

  • Buy a Lada if you want safety, it was designed to survive a nuclear holocaust! :D

But on a serious note, French & German cars always had the highest safety scores in the Euro NCAP tests. :O

  • ill just stick with my 6000+ pound 70s model ford trucks, thank you!

  • @460EFI

They won`t do to well against modern cars. I`ve seen so many crash test of old cars vs. new cars and the old ones always lost.

  • I HATE THOSE FKIN YOUTUBE ADDS!!!! forcing ads down my throat while im on youtube to avoid the adds on the telly

  • @irishprice you can simply press f5 to refresh the page and skip the ads.

  • Even the most fuel efficient non-electric car gets 0mpg at idle...

  • True story:

Mom bringing the kid (one kid) to kindergarten, 1min before tey close the doors, in a BMW X5, at 60km/h on a 30-zone, every morning. She has trouble parking, because of all the the Forresters, Defenders, Landcruisers etc. How far is the trip? 250m! No joke - come visit my town - Ill show you.

Or go shopping to Aldi on a Saturday - same thing all over.... So this show is entirely accurate!

  • I'm going to buy the biggest SUV I can find.

  • Jeremy owns a land rover discovery!

  • @ludicer So is the Land Cruiser in the video. He tends to point out how stupid he thinks SUVs are then mentions he has one. Unless it's a Land Rover then he makes fun of Hammond (in the current Top Gear) and talks about how great they are off road. While throwing out the absurdities of it as well.
