@gaggotgaggot prove what???? your a fucking loser seriously, I live in Brisbane, well just outside. Which is in Qld. I drive for a company that used to be known as John Bain Westrans, which is now owned by TOLL. I drive a 904 kenworth, from brisbane, to toowoomba hook up a second trailer then to mitchell/morven hook up my third trailer and then either onto darwin or do a Mt Isa/Cloncurry changeover. From John Bains yard at coopers plains. Anything else???? FUCKTARD
@gaggotgaggot i'm AUSTRALIAN ok, why is it no-one can spell DUMBASS???? The "B" is not silent. I am an aussie road train driver, my dad has 50 years experience so go shift from full auto to opti-cruise or what ever and leave this poor bloke alone! i even told you i was australian, and you still call me american????? are you fucking serious??????
@gaggotgaggot Well everyone is entitled to their opinion, what sort of trucking company would you own in Ireland??? driving DAF's and Volvo's, fully synchro gearboxes yeh you would so kow huh???? anyways your a fucking maggot for starting on a poor bloke just trying to show his skills. Where is your video of you driving your probably auto DAF or Volvo do you even know what an argosy is???? Come to aust and drive a real truck fucktard!
@gaggotgaggot yes he does, just because he does it quickly doesn't mean he's not doing it properly, the bloke has probably been driving trucks for 20+ years i think he should not what he is doing.
@gaggotgaggot i would, just for the fact he "neutrals' between splits, thats old school right there, we younger driver's are taught not to and to clutch splits, the day i got my licence i forgot that and drive the way my old man taught me. good job BBIGWHEELS77
I must say your the 1st person I seen to move back in neutral briefly when splitting.... is this something to do with the particular truck or just your preferred method??
I bet all these haters on the way hes been shifting have gotten in their trucks the next day n tried it LOL! n its not shit deca teaches either your just jealous coz you never knew you could do that LOL!
Why the hell are you going into neutral when splitting. I've been driving 18 speeds for 15 years and thats the firsts time i've seen that done. seems like a whole lot of extra work to me. Crazy. Must be something stupid they teach you at DECA these days.
Dont worry about what those other cocksucking oxygen theives say, just because they cant drive a tip cart with the sides up. Good work mate keep on truckin!
BBIGWHEEL S77 is right, load that rig with its max load, and then lets see fatboy behind the wheel do all the gear changes.....what happened to proper splitter shifts, pre-select, correct revs etc......hopefully he's not out on pulic roads
Ok, tell me why all you new breed drivers take it out of gear when you make your splits between direct and overdrive? It is an un-necessary move. Just move the splitter button and release the throttle to go from DIR. to O/D and when shifting from O/D to Dir. , move the splitter button and then give it gentle throttle. It'll save wear and tear on your shift forks in your trans and make it easier on you.
do you have to twitch the gear stick when splitting?? any shifter v seen (volvo, scania, daf) took the split with a clutching just... or are you not using a clutch... hmm
nice shifting bud. it takes some practice to get the timing on the argosys because of the linkages. never put in N when splitting the top box but it makes sense cos ive been caught in no mans land a few times ill give it a shot tonight. look after it ol mate.
That cunts name should be faggotfaggot. Put your money where your mouth is asshole and post a video of yourself. Otherwise keep your fucken mouth shut cos in reality, your nothing. Fucken hell of a lot of experts on this thread. Wouldn't let him drive your trucks aye gaggot?? He probably grew out of matchbox Kenworths years ago anyway. You obviously haven't you cum lips.
good on shit for brains, yeh mate its all staged.stick to riding ya malvern star with streamers hanging of the handle bars ya wanka and when you have driven anything bigger get back to me
doing the split the way this driver does it ensures a better shift, simple as that, ya just cant go wrong the way this man does it, its how i do it too!
Reply to Jizzem66: Looks like it works okay to take it out of gear, but the manufacturer has the air shifting set up so you can merely break torque during the shift, and allow the rpm to drop so it will engage the high split. No need to take it out of gear. Allanmajestic is right that you should not select the split long before you break torque, though. Splitting is different from the range shift in that respect.
sounds like you know what you're talking about. Any idea why Eaton chose to synchronize splitter gears? They should know most of us don't use clutch (most of the time), and so making split shifts under torque load would seem to cause wear on the synchros. I can sometiems hear grinding when making split shifts.
In fact, I've had split shifts fail with the clutch depressed, presumably because the friction material in the cones are worn to shit.
Surprisingly, the splitter gears are NOT synchronized! They've set the power of the air shifting cylinder at the right level so the shift collars just catch. To split up, hit the button and let off the throttle part way so the engine will drop slowly to the synchronous rpm for high split. To split down, hit the button, throttle to break torque, and then slowly raise engine rpm till the shift completes. Revving the engine too fast or allowing rpm to drop too fast will cause missed split shifts.
2 team.. Unlikly the cones are worn that much, TRY not going too high in thr revs but only lift your foot a little (only dropping a few hundred revs to find next gear - holding revs around 1800) and get from one to the other in a quick smooth action (pre-select only a few of seconds before change) then you can vary the sequence around for loaded/unloaded & changing up/down
fuller eaton have an instructional video on the recommended operating procedure and it does not include shifting as this video portrays. in fact they state that if you pre select the splitter and pull it thru neutral it causes wear to the gearbox.
Comment below is correct. Not sure why the driver keeps pulling it out of gear to merely split up. Love the compound upshifts with a low-inertia transmission, though!
because this freightliner has no clutch, you have to take it out of a full gear select neutrual, split the gear and then put it bak in to the gear in was in before, It sound's long but it realy aint. My dad drive's a 660hp Argosy here in NZ but he NEVER SPLIT'S HIS GEARS:)
Autos are great, they are the way forward. Try driving around London, It's hard enough, especially if you have a constant mesh box and you're double declutching all day. Why make life hard, for a macho man gearbox?
@Kokoots I agree, I do container movements and Auto is the way to go in stop/start conditions, and there's manual mode for descents anyway. Mind you, I'd rather the Roadranger over say a Scania triptronic (with clutch) any day!!
Why are you puling the shifter out and in to a gear when you split the upper gears. Just move the splitter and take your foot of the gas pedal until it gets in to gear and then push it again. That's all you need to do. I've been driving a 13 speed trans for more than 6 years and it's been working just fine.
If you give it time and are sure to listen for it to engage, it should be fine. You could always use the clutch to completely break torque if you're worried about an incomplete engagement--ah but that would be dishonor, right?
@BBIGWHEELS77 ...yeah it's 2 schools of thought on this topic....personally I won't put my foot in it until I hear the clunk or feel the resistance through the drivetrain
@Twinman2 The first one in Europe and the second one in the USA . Do you see a problem somewhere? I'm a driver who doesn't drive by the book but from what I've learned from older drivers (including my father who's been a driver for 30 years) and from what I've learned as a mechanic before I actually started driving. The way I shift 13 speed trans is perfectly fine as long as you know what your doing. So my licenses are just fine thank you very much but it sounds like you need to wise up.
@alfredgr12345 yea it is lol, freightliner is owned by daimler benz and the only difference between that wheel and the one in my mercedes vario is the center cap where the bolt goes lol, will post a few pics on here later

Eaton-Fuller, who manufacture RoadRanger transmissions, recommend that you use the clutch to reduce damage/wear on components. However most ppl will shift without the clutch as it's a LOT easier on the left leg lol. It all depends on the ability of the driver and the condition of the equipment eg if the shift linkages are worn/sticky or the transmission has internal damage it can be hard to get "out of gear" without depressing the clutch. It takes a lot of trial and error as to what works best.
