I would love to argue that point. The baton should be an extension of your arm. The problem with crossing the baton is that the two and three will look the same if the baton is parallel with your chest.
The idea is that with your baton and your left arm, you form what is sometimes known as the " Triangle of Power" But the thing to remember is: The wrist is straight, the baton is not.
I disagree, I believe the baton should feel comfortable, but then yet have logic and reason to it's position. Conduction is merely flapping of arms unless there is a que, formata, or change taking place in the piece. Some one may want to hold the baton with just two fingers, or inbetween two fingers. It all depends on how the music moves you.
