  • now kids remember, look both way before crossing an F1 track.

  • why would you run across when the cars are coming at such a speed

  • why the blur...

  • @thevitutus check out the uncensored version and you'll find out...

  • @thevitutus you honestly don't wana know its horrible

  • this is sum crazy #%%&

  • That sucks how both the marshal AND the driver died... RIP

  • I dont even want to see it >_<

    so sad

  • uncensored its the grimmest shit ever

  • oh my god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "The force of the impact was such that the extinguisher was thrown up and over the adjacent grandstand. It came to ground in the car park to the rear of the stand, where it hit a parked car and jammed its door shut." I got that off a related site...-Daz in oz

  • Its hard to believe that at 0:11 the 2nd Marshall was alive, RIP.

  • Why'd they fucking blur it!?

  • @Zebonka Because it's fucking GRIM.

  • omfg do not look this up unblured you can see his intestines hanging out

  • @andesmintlover fuck why do i always do the opposite :o

  • @andesmintlover too late i already did...

  • @andesmintlover Where can you see it?

  • @xchimino2 Google for the term "tom pryce accident uncut" and you'll find that video on liveleak. You can't see much detail from the low quality video so it should be fine if you're curious. Just don't go to Google Image while searching for that term if you have SafeSearch off, you'll end up with other unrelated photo you'd wished you've never seen.

  • @Hornet85 Oh my.. I just tried that out and Holy shit. I wish I hadn't done that. So much gore, arg!!

  • ...

  • This is very scary...

  • did his body split in half or is that his clothing were seeing? Not that it matters. Just wondering.

  • @mrgribble His body splits in multiple parts ...

  • @mrgribble I've just seen it unblurred. It looks like it almost cuts him in half, hanging on by a small bit of skin perhaps, so the legs and the torso are stretched to maybe two feet longer than usual.

  • @IronHarper Those are his intestines.

  • @ChinatownWieners fair enough, makes more sense. Lovely image eh.

  • @IronHarper Eh? Are you Canadian like me?! Cool!

  • @ChinatownWieners haha! No I'm British :P

  • @IronHarper oh. ok.

  • I rorudo.

  • so the guy that fliped was carrying a fire extinguisher...when he got hit the fire extinguisher HIT pryce killing him and the marshal on impact???

  • @Pier2pie Yes. And the marshall got hit by the F1's Wing he got split in half

  • Note that Van Vurren moved across with & slightly behind the other marshal. I would venture the other marshal moved first having (adequately) judged the opportunity to cross. Van Vurren was following his lead and due to delayed reaction time, momentary inattention, hesitation, or just plain falling behind, he got caught. So, considering how the marshals were moving together, I think Vurren was relying mainly on the other marshal's judgement, good or bad, and it didn't work for him or Pryce.

  • Okai c'est moche mais bon le pâté de pixels aurait pu être évité... on vois bien pire au journal de 20h...

  • Really sad that i was born the same year he died...

  • holy shit , thats a Quadrouple Salto !

  • That first marshall was lucky. It near got him as well.

  • the thing that got my attention was even after the marshal was hit no one went and checked on him they all just went about their business..

  • @MuLK3y What could they have done for him? He was literally ripped in half. There are uncensored clips of this in slow motion and (sparing the bloody, gory details) it's obvious he's dead before he hits the ground.

  • That marshal sucked at Frogger.

  • You are so so ...stupid - so shut up

  • If Pryce did not die in this accident, no one would have remembered this incident. Though Pryce was travelling at 150mph, the fact that he did not make any attempt to apply the brake on a straight line with two moving objects in front of him at a place where an accident just occured means that he was more interested in winning this race than being careful. Brakes works in formula one thats why drivers break easily at corners.

  • @mosorire NO no thats wrong, Pryce's impact with marshal was at 175mph approx. The first thing was that the car right in front of Pryce tried to dodge because he had clear vision- he missed the first marshall by millimetres apparently. Pryce had blocked vision because of car right in front but even if he could see clearly, the speed equates to 800 metres every 10 seconds so even with 100 metres to impact you have just over a second. The poor marshals were naive

  • Comment removed

  • @deniro220, After reading your statement and watching this video again, I agree that he had a blocked vision. Regarding the speed, F1 breaking can work in a second, thats why drivers break easily during overtaking or when parked cars or debris are on the track. Look at how the last car in this video slowed down to avoid debris by moving to the right. Remember Purley parked his fast moving car and even crossed the road in a naive way to save a burning Roger Williamson.

  • @mosorire dude, it takes people about 3/4 of a second to apply their brakes as a reaction to something like that....in that 3/4 of a second he covered the length of a football field...what was he supposed to do? In a race, nothing is supposed to be on the track but the cars...how could he have realistically ever expected two marshals to be strolling across the damn straight, especially when he just came out of a turn? And communication wasn't as good as today's technology..no way he could know

  • @geetphuck, Pryce aint at fault cos his vision was blocked. In the 80s and 90s, an average F1 car can brake to a stop in 3seconds from 200km/h covering 100m so 1/10th of a second would have given the marshal the 3 metres to escape death. A modern F1 car can brake from 200 km/h to a complete stop in 2.21 seconds, using only 65m. F1 is about 45% acceleratioin, 15% deceleration and 40% near stopping/ stopping at corners and immediate acceleratiion again. The best asset of an F1 car is the brake.

  • Den Mann mit dem Feuerlöscher hats in der Mitte in zwei Teile zerrissen. Schon übel...

  • @TestECull he gets ripped in half and only his guts are holding him together

  • @swaaahtome Like we'd be able to tell in some grainy-ass 380x240 footage from 1977.

    Oi

  • @TestECull I've seen it and it's very clear that that is exactly what happened.

  • Shit. RIP guys x

  • watch?v=tj8VRxp5sDU no blur skip to 4:40

  • He aint walking that off anytime soon....this is why we teach kids to look both ways before crossing the street and never try to outrun or dodge traffic.

  • This is maybe the most awful crash I've ever seen.

  • theres other videos of this its absolutely fucking sick when you think about it. thank god its bad quality though, i'd probably have thrown up and had nightmares for weeks if it was 2011 HD quality

  • and thing is the poor marshal probably also had family and kidz and such but no one remembers him noor his name .... kinda sad and meaningless death if u ask me.

  • @saerdnaininnan

yeah he has a name, jansen van vuurren. i think he was a teenager when he died so he probably didn't have a family himself.

  • poor kid...

  • the car aint even on fire, whit no one in it...i think he could have w8ed a couple of seconds before entering the track, dont think the first driver realized what really happened... i seen the non blurred out video and omg there was like nothing left of that poor marshal...and just to be real honest it was the marshals bad both him and tom pryce got killed..

    anyway rip both

  • bloody hell

  • in my eyes, this is the most horrific accident in the history of motorsports. do your friends a favour and don't mention it to them unless they already know about it. when I first realized what had happened I threw up on the spot. even when I was 15 and knew instantly that my favourite driver, greg moore, had died in his 1999 accident I didn't react as strongly as I did to this

  • @Shirazae stop being a wuss

  • omg

  • Comment removed

  • @Braddersj32

the fire extinguisher that is carried by the marshall hits the driver of the car on the head and kills him, the marshall also dies due to the impact with the front of the car

  • @TexacoEmmoGODsPilot so he died twice??lol

  • @Volodeas thats not lol

    thats sad :/

  • @TexacoEmmoGODsPilot how can the front of the car kill him? It was the spoiler splitting him in half.

  • @Braddersj32 No I think the fire extinguisher killed the geezer in the car

  • @Braddersj32 The fire extinguish killed the driver, read things before you get nice and cocky. OK?

  • @Braddersj32 The fire extinguisher hit him in the helmat which pulled and and the strap partailly decapitaded him, pretty nasty.

  • @Braddersj32 Yea a 40 pd metal container hitting your head at 150 MPH wouldnt anyone.......

  • @Braddersj32

He was 70% decapitated from the helmet strap. The blow was so severe the fire exteinguisher flew over the grand stand and landed in the parking lot. He was dead long before the crash into the barriers.

  • @Braddersj32 u doubt this and that.. were u a marshal? dont assume.. read and check up facts.. doubts are useless

  • @Braddersj32 the fire extinguisher struck Tom Pryce on the head and killed him. That has been proven. The car striking the marshall at 200 mph killed the marshall outright.

  • do we ever see what happened to pryce's car after he struck the marshal?

  • @tacospartan yea there is lots of pictures and some videos

    watch the video response

  • Glad people don't run across race tracks anymore. If they had left the car alone or stopped the race no one would have died.

  • wow this is crazy, the guy did like a triple front flipped! no wonder they blured it out know should have the right to see this. but what i don't get is didn't the guy look before he passed?? i mean the cars are comming at 200 m/h and he just passes by..

  • @juni172

i guess because 200mph is pretty fast and they underestimated how quickly the cars would reach them

  • @TexacoEmmoGODsPilot Also I would like to add that the accident took place at the top of the straight, meaning you couldn't see very far down the road.

  • @juni172 I have seen the footage un-edited.....its not a pretty sight. It's a shame these things happen, and goes to show just how quickly one can loose their life.

  • @juni172 yeah that just after the "kink" which is a bend in the track. It may have been difficult to see oncoming cars, and if you're a 19 year old kid with little experience, probably hard to judge it's speed and distance as well

  • @juni172 the reason they blurred it out was because he was in 2 bits attached together by his intestines

  • @juni172

A car travelling at 200 mph covers nearly 90 metres per second. That's an awful lot of ground.

  • omg that why they canged the rules right after that

  • people on youtube always say the marshall was cut in a half...it simply didn´t happened. Do some research before saying such things

  • @octaviocgsa Have you seen the footage without the blurr? It is damn near close enough. Tragic...

  • Comment removed

  • @octaviocgsa ...well, not "cut"; that is by any car part or anything. His body was launched into a spin so fast and violent that it couldn't withstand the centripetal forces on it, and fell apart in mid-air. The "unblurred" video shows this clearly, at least two sections of his spine disconnected (at the neck and pelvis) and all the surrounding tissue tore apart - strictly due to the incredibly high "G" force loading of the spin induced by being struck at the knees by a car going about 200MPH.

  • Since the accident happened at the 'top of the hill', I'm pretty sure people couldn't even hear cars coming. In 1977, the fastest way to communicate was probably by talky-walkies - no PCs, cellphones or anything like it then. For many years people used this very footage ( and the 1990 Vancouver Indy deadly accident) to show how crucial communication is a part of marshalling.

  • why did they try to run over??? there were no emergency, they coulda wait for the cars

  • @Olemwrongway

    His car was on fire

  • yes i know.. and i know the car could explode.. but there were about 4 F1-cars in the way, how could they think they could outrun them!? they could have waith for the cars to run past, they would be gone in a sec anyway

  • @Olemwrongway not sure if you're familiar with Kyalami in those days, but the straight goes up, then drops off. There is no way to see whats ahead, its completely blind.

  • yeah, i wont argue with you there, i really dont know whats right about that, so i just throw in the towle;P

  • @mppy938

watch the Onboard video of Patrick Depailler at Kyalami and you see how steep the embankment is!

  • Our friend Favetta25 uploaded a clip named 'O ultimo GP de Tom Pryce'. At the end we can see safety crew extracting Pryce out of his car. First time I ever see post-crash footage. Just as gory...

  • @RimRiderQC

there is quite a few post crash footage around

it takes some finding but i have collected a large amount of footage from this racee

  • you guys really dont want to see this without the blur, i swear oh my gosh :x

  • Already have.

    Not pretty.

I'd pass on the up close of Tom Pryce as well.

  • Van Vuuren was ripped to pieces. In other vid's you can see bodyparts fly and even some organs slip out of his body, to land meters further.

Even if he had smashed with his face into the ground, he would be indentifiable. They knew it was Van Vuuren because he was the only one not showing up when they gathered all the marshalls together.

  • Thex

I can 100% assure you his entire upper torso was in one piece - head, arms etc..

The car hit him on the shins and it's possible that after he hit the ground his legs ripped off at that point, or at least were sliced into - the moment he impacts the ground his trousers come off completely and don't move while his body keeps sliding so it's hard to tell - a lot of people at that race say he was cut in half and that's maybe what they meant - getting hit at 170mph doesn't need exaggeration!

  • The marshal was NOT ripped apart - unidentifiable because he smashed his face into the ground; his trousers came off, he spun violently,; debris from the car was flying through the air then he hit the ground violently face down and skidded into the fencing (along with his legs, like a rag doll), which completely messed up his face

  • just look at the video response, it's obvious he was ripped apart and it's not just his jeans flying away. i know we want to think it couldn't have been that brutal and it's just his clothes but many sources say he was completely dismembered and unrecognizable after impact.

  • He was ripped apart i swear it

  • @robotguy67

    He was.

  • Crunch!!!!!

  • @BarryDennen12 completely inappropriate

  • I think it's more inappropriate to upload it, but to each their own.

  • if anyone has this video without distortion censored and we'll send me a message

  • watch the video response

  • its wrong, so so wrong, but i would have to say that russell phillips crash at charlotte was worse, his head was ripped off, hand stuck in the fence, and he was torn in half

    RIP

  • @crakajack3 i totally agree with your comments. however, the only positives that you can take from this and the russell phillips incident is that car and marshalling safety improves. But it doesnt help the victim.

  • yea but they won't fix it until something terrible happens, and then they can't stop fixing it

  • @crakajack3 You are correct.

  • por que lo sensuraron alguien digame como encuentro el video sin sensura

  • the body "ripped" is not true, it's only an illusion . seeing carefully it was clear the pants had been ripped away, but the body was intact. however, RIP.

  • @Spazio1999forever

Yeah, and since his shirt is red, many think he was ripped apart.

  • Actually, if you look up the incident online, it clearly states that the body was cut in two at the waist.

  • is there any vid where pryce is seen being crashed?

  • I've seen some pictures a few years ago... trust me, you don't wanna see that... :(

  • You can also see Tom's helmet rolling across the track on the far right in the picture at 0:18

One of the most gruesome accidents :(

  • absolutely right. This detail was never seen before.

  • holy shit that dude was almost cut into two!

  • in seven

  • His body was so badly destroyed that the only way they could identify him was by gathering all the marshals and figuring out who was absent. He was only 19, the poor bastard. But it was very silly of him to run across the track like that. Not only did he lose his own life, but Pryce lost his as well.

  • @ROONTANG Oh, just imagine the kid's mother when she saw it.

  • Crazy , neither man probably felt anything.....rip.

  • the track marshall should've been stationed on the left hand side of the track becasue most cars if they're racing clockwise would stop left, hence the track marshalls need not have taken the risk of crossing the track....

  • does the video exist in high quality and without censorships?

  • yes of course

  • really? got a link?

  • no

the footage exists its just in this hq version theyve censored it

  • RIP

  • Shit even with the blur it is disgusting....

  • I saw this without the pixels and it is the most horrific thing ive ever seen...don`t watch it...God I feel sick now...

  • can you post me the link where theres no blur?

    thanks...

  • If you really want to see it I ain't gonna stop you...but its extremely graphic.

Just type in 77_pryce on google and you should find it. Or if u give me your email address il send it to you. I know its 1 month late so im sure you've already found it.

  • damn man , that's shocking , thanks for the info , (If u know more let me know)

  • in this video you can see the first marshall cross the road after the accident sorry for my english

  • sorry before the accident

  • omfg...

  • that was the worst way 2 men could die...one loosing half his head while doing well in his career and the other cut in half by the last one while doing his decent job..... aint life a bitch?

  • @xXturbo86Xx Well Said.

  • there are videos on youtube where it isnt blurred out

  • shit!!!!!! i'm glad they pixeled it out..Fuckin hell!!!!

  • Hans Joachim Stuck, the German driver in front of Pryce's car, sensed the 2 marshalls crossing the road and swerved slightly (at 180 mph!), avoiding the first marshall (Bill) by centimetres it is thought. Pryce was unsighted because he was behind Stuck and it was just over a rise on the track. He hit Jansen Van Vuuren at 170mph. Tragic death of 2 young men.

  • that stupid fucking marshall. its sad in all. am not laughing or joking about it but he crossed the track without looking, tom pryce didn't stand a chance. tom was from my hometown. the fact that tom had no chance of preventing the accident

  • Dont forget even back then these cars are still doing 300 plus kms at this point of the track and the martials are unsited for the corner entrance onto the straight. A sad day for motor racing...legend lost

  • wait why is it blurred out?

  • because he gets ripped in half near enough, you dont want to see it

  • EW! ok ok im glad its blurred... i saw another one that wasnt blurred i thought it was his shirt... o.O

  • the marshal that is crossing right?

  • @SummerTheFuzzy yea, i have seen the uncensored version

  • it was too disgusting...(not safe 4 youtube)

  • it's no wonder the poor guy (the fire extinguisher dude) got censored just as he got killed instantly by poor Tom Pryce's car. RIP to both guys....

  • Oh, i thought tom pryce was the one who got hit, 2 died? R.I.P, that was horrible :(

at least it was instant :( r.ip both

  • Like final destination

  • the bloke with the glasses in the first 3 seconds looks like the track marshall that crossed the track with jansen van vuuren.

What was the point of blurring van vuuren when he got hit?

  • yes the first marshall is bill who crosses the track with jansen

  • ouch

  • terribile se non fosse stato per l'oscuramento si vedrebbe la cruda verità

  • Tu vai a vedere "incidente auto astenersi deboli di cuore". Guardalo, leggi i commenti e poi dimmi.
