Ferrets are high maintenance pets, they will stink if you don't clean their cage about every day, they need open areas to run around in, and need high quality food. It's worth it if you can provide, though.

@TOSViolator I don't really consider them high maintenance. I mean, sure you have to clean their litter boxes twice a day, but I have to do that for the cat boxes too. It also depends on the litter - I use world's best for my cats + ferret now and OMG what a change! the smell is just not there anymore its amazing.

@ArTzxDc They aren't cheap pets, they cost about the same as a WELL CARED FOR cat does. If you introduce all the animals properly they should get along depending on their personalities. I have four cats and a ferret. Two of the cats don't get along with my ferret, but they won't go after him they just ignore him. The other two play nice with him.

listen plz i really want a ferret but i heard that it will need atleast one major surgery in its life span and it can cost up to 1500dollars and i dont want to spend that much money is this true?

@Mrworthless28 It can be. You can decrease the likelihood of surgery in the future through proper diet and careful supervision during playtime. The most common reason for surgery is a "gastric obstruction". Basically, they eat something they shouldn't (or they get a hairball, which they can't cough up) and it gets stuck in their tummy. Hairball treatments and watching them carefully will help prevent these things. Don't let surgery scare you! My little girl is the light of my life. :)

beautiful ferret!by the way people,she is not scaring the ferret,this is what they do.the dooking noises are happy sounds,now if he was hissing with a bottle brush tail,then that is a sound of anger or fear.also be very careful with the dimes,if they swallow it,it will have to be removed surgically.worst case,your pet will choke to death,and these animals are to precious to let that happen.
