Led Zeppelin Facts: Robert Plant had throat issues starting in 1971. From that point on, his vocal range slowly, very slowly, deminished. 1974 he had surgery for (nodes?) on his vocal chords. If he would have taken care of the issue and let things heal up nicely, he would have retained most of the vocal power he had prior to 1974. Instead, he went straight into rehearsals with the band though his voice was not polished. Hence most of the 1975 bootlegs he seemed a bit "woozy" vocally.

@GhostyFilms if you listen to bootlegs of their live performances up to 1972,he used to sing this and the rest of their songs like rock and roll,over the hills and far away,etc. much like the studio version,hitting all those high notes!so i guess he just lost his voice after it..all that screaming without any special training can be really harmful for a voice!that could be one reason..

never not disappointed in Robert's voice live. He can't hit shit. That's what's missing. Period. he tries to compensate with various screams and groans that are embarrassing to listen to. I end up regretting I ever watch these live performances and go back to listening to the masterful studio recordings.

I was eating dinner the other day and me and my dad were discussing music and like live performances and shit and so he goes on the computer and I asked him what are you doing. He said giving you a lesson, and just put Led Zep live at knebworth on :P

@QuadroWho I hate to admit it, but after watching all the live Zeppelin footage I can find, I really believe that Page was worthless after '73. The thing that blows my mind is that no matter how awful his playing is, people still comment "Page is god" and tear apart anyone who points out the fact that his playing actually sucks. They must be listening with their eyes, because he does still LOOK cool.
Possibly my favorite Zeppelin song. They were dinosaurs at this point what with all the new music and attitudes coming out of the UK, their ship had sailed and it all would grind to a halt a little more than a year later. Their legend would only grow.
I was there. Went in to the site around 4am, Zep finally came on around midnight, gig finished around 3am. So glad to catch them before John Bonham sadly passed away.
I was lucky enough to see the original Zep twice in 1980 when I was stationed in Germany. I was at the failed Nuremburg show when Bonzo passed out three songs in. Fortunately I was able to see them again a few days later in Munich, which I believe was their very last show with Bonham. The whole show was really stripped down, no lazers, disco balls. The venue in Nuremburg was so small it couldn't have sat more than 2,000.

@NateageIV Playing-wise, 70's hands down. I enjoyed seeing them in '80 more though because each time I was sooo close to the stage. The 80 shows were a bit like a rock-n-roll revue at times, cause they played a BUNCH of old rockers like "Train Kept A Rollin'" "Heartful of Soul" "White Summer" and a couple of Little Richard tunes, as well as their newer tunes and the regulars. Honestly, to me, by 1980 Page had started to lose some of that "magic" he always had.
They degraded in their last years (sad to say, but...) Page was wasted all the time, Plant lost half of his spirit along with his voice, and Bonzo somehow became very technique relating, instead of feel, though most of nowadays bands will never achieve the level they were in their last years, not to mention the "artistic peak"
I think its an excellent version. Although you can tell Plant's heart wasn't in it here. He had lost his son about 18 months before and it understandably took its toll on him.
Accualy page was playing bad, to be page. But he did not fuck it all up so its still good, the vocals are quite good its just that this is a youtube vid whit shitty quality. But yes plant was better before earls court, but still greate.

I had the VHS of this show and anyone who thinks he didn't go back and "fix" the guitars for the live DVD thing a couple years ago is also tripping...lol Would love to have these side by side to compare.
Page was sloppy....I was there for it while in the USAF over there. Of course we were sloppy tripp'n too! These vidoes of Knebworth 1979 bring back lots of memoriies.
there is actually less 1974 footage...and as I know, there are some few bootlegs from 1972, however, I only found sydney showground and US- stuff, but not on youtube. 1973..they did a huge US-Tour in that year, although it seems there is less footage material, too! You may find some stuff from Dallas, but I actually didn´t have a look for those

The thing that blows my mind is that no matter how awful his playing is, people still comment "Page is god" and tear apart anyone who points out the fact that his playing actually sucks. Possibly my favorite Zeppelin song. They were dinosaurs at this point what with all the new music and attitudes coming out of the UK, their ship had sailed and it all would grind to a halt a little more than a year later. Their legend would only grow.

I was lucky enough to see the original Zep twice in 1980 when I was stationed in Germany. I was at the failed Nuremburg show when Bonzo passed out three songs in. Fortunately I was able to see them again a few days later in Munich, which I believe was their very last show with Bonham. The whole show was really stripped down, no lazers, disco balls. The venue in Nuremburg was so small it couldn't have sat more than 2,000.

@NateageIV Playing-wise, 70's hands down. I enjoyed seeing them in '80 more though because each time I was sooo close to the stage. The 80 shows were a bit like a rock-n-roll revue at times, cause they played a BUNCH of old rockers like "Train Kept A Rollin'" "Heartful of Soul" "White Summer" and a couple of Little Richard tunes, as well as their newer tunes and the regulars. Honestly, to me, by 1980 Page had started to lose some of that "magic" he always had.

They degraded in their last years (sad to say, but...) Page was wasted all the time, Plant lost half of his spirit along with his voice, and Bonzo somehow became very technique relating, instead of feel, though most of nowadays bands will never achieve the level they were in their last years, not to mention the "artistic peak"

there is actually less 1974 footage...and as I know, there are some few bootlegs from 1972, however, I only found sydney showground and US- stuff, but not on youtube. 1973..they did a huge US-Tour in that year, although it seems there is less footage material, too! You may find some stuff from Dallas, but I actually didn´t have a look for those
