The only way to find the secret character Reptile in 1-Player game is by following those clues: Fight on "The Pit". But just so while shadows are flying across the moon, You might always wanna win 2 perfect rounds (a "Double Flawless Victory") and do the fatality on CPU's opponent at the end of the match. Then, defeat the green male ninja Reptile at the bottom of the pit once and for all.
Once You’ve performed a finishing move on Reptile, You’ll get an extra big bonus 10 million points!
In Mortal Kombat 1 Reptile was just Sub-Zero and Scorpion combined and his speed doubled. His Canon move set with the acid spit wasn't established until MK2.
He isn't even a real character. He has a "Joker button" installed that allows him to switch between being Sub-Zero and scorpion on the fly. In the Arcade version, you could literally watch this as his fighting stance changed. The Genesis version used Scorpion's stance for Sub-Zero.
So you can't see when the Joker switch is triggered.
@AnneMarieBarkin That's how it was in the arcade version. He switched between Scorpion/Sub Zero's moves and their stances, but his name still said Scorpion. Only the SNES version said "Reptile" in the energy bar.
@KHayes666 How much crack are you smoking?? Genesis's graphics were god awful, the music sucked donkey penis, half the sounds/music/colors were missing from the arcade. The only thing Genesis had on the SNES was the blood code.
@KHayes666 Half the back rounds had off colors, the sprites had strange colored pixels bordering them, Goro's Lair was more-so green then gray, and Liu Kang didn't even have a statue in the warrior Shrine because they gave his spot to Sub Zero, lol
@JSchmidt259 :Yeah , the Genesis was worse in graphics and sound compared to SNES. The Genesis had faster gameplay though, and the blood code like you said.
This version was awesome. At 1:45 reptile uppercuts 8 times in a row haha. I knew a kid at school back then that said he used to change the color on the tv to make subzero look green so he could play as reptile.
Wtf? That is bogus. Who is the secret unlockable character in MK1 then? There's a character square that's blank in the game and I'm wondering who that is.
The symbol once more appears in MK3/UMK3/MKT as the portraits for locked characters
The only characters that can be unlocked arw Shang Tsung and Goro, but that's Gameboy exclusive.
Ye gotta understand that Reptile was unique as he was the very first secret character in a fighting game. Ever since then, people like MK1 Reptile were sought after to test the player's skill
I saw somewhere that if you played reptile all three times (changing the first platform to the pit allows you to do this) and performed the fatality on him then you could play as him after beating the game.
I tried to do it but no success so i dont know if it actally works
This was my first MK game and on this console too.<_<
It's funny how all foes can easily be beaten raping jump kicks. I kicked Reptile's ass first time I fought him. Jump kicking is not easy on him, but abusing freeze balls makes Reptile look stupid.XD
The Genesis/MegaDrive port was crap. The only reason people bought this version was for the blood, which wasn't a real bonus since you had to enter a code to get it anyway.
if the snes had the blood in it and all the proper finishing moves, it would of been a brilliant conversion, why they did this is beyond me, espesially when mk2 and mk3 had blood in them. Why censor the first one but not the sequals?!

How come this Sega version of MK1 has death music?
The version I play doesn't have it. I believe I'm playing the NTSC (I think that's correct, but also the USA version).

Why did they have Scorpion's name over Reptile's life meter? Why couldn't they just use Reptile's name? It's obvious that he's a different ninja.
AnneMarieBarkin 2 years ago
That's not the only odd thing. When Reptile's acid finally hits Scorpion, it freezes him. Maybe it's not Reptile. Maybe it's Sub-Zero in disguise.
ryhorn100 2 years ago
It is Reptile. He has both Scorpion and sub zero moves
mattheweirk777 2 years ago
Okay. But I just find it rather odd when he has both Scorpion and Sub-Zero's powers rather than his own.

nah, Genesis graphics were superior than the SNES but the sound was out and out BRUTAL.
I can't even play Doom on Sega because the sound is so damn bad.

Get a Double Flawless on The PIt without blocking once and perform a Fatality. A flying object must also appear in the background.

I read somewhere a while ago you could somehow unlock Reptile. I guess it was wrong and lead me to believe that you could.
Anyway, thanks for clearing that up. If it were possible to unlock MK 1 Reptile that would be awesome.
Oh well, I could always play as MK 1 Reptile in my hacked version of UMK 3.

All Reptile is in MK1 is a Green Sub Zero with a Green "Freeze" ball, a Green Harpoon, and Subs Slide Kick move.
DukeNukem2020 4 years ago
Actually, it's a Green Scorpion(he has the same stance as Scorpion, Subby has a different stance). But was Reptile in MK1 as a secret opponent?
