This was the one music video that I worked on in my career as a P.A. It was shot on a stage off of La Cienega and Blackwelder St. The exteriors were shot at Huntington Gardens in San Marino. It was the two longest days of my life. I was from Chicago and had just moved to L.A. I knew the guys from Chicago, so it was a fun sort of reunion for me.
I miss Summer of '97. It's a shame the only time I saw Fig Dish live was when I didn't know who they were. I went out and bought their CDs after the concert, but I was there mostly for Local H. Veruca Salt also played that night. It was really a kick-ass concert, but Fig Dish was new to me so I didn't know any of the songs.
@doctorshifty83 The FD song "Chew Toy" intro was the one used in the Empire Records movie. It's on the same album (That's What Love Songs Often Do) as 'Seeds'.
Hehe.....the story goes that they chose "fig dish" as a phonetic pun on the German "F*** You" that they got from a German bar owner after being thrown out......
I've never understood the concept of "Power Pop", if it has ANY power, it just....ummm...rock. Don't dis this band or any other by calling it "Power Pop". Michael Jackson was POP. Long may he get singed in the place he is now.
You can find both albums on amazon used through one of their third party sellers. I rebaught both albums that way recently and got them for like $2.50 each and they look brand new. Just make sure the seller you buy from has a high rating.
these guys were awesome. i saw them live once (they opened for someone, possibly veruca salt) and was hooked. ran out and got both their albums. my sister wrote them a letter and they sent her back a hand written note with band stickers. they were cool as shit. where are they now?
Man, I saw a crowd rough this band up in Columbus. People wanted them to hurry up so Local H could get on. Anybody seen their "when shirts get tight" video anywhere? I heard it's a little scandalous.
Yeah, Playboy called that vid one of the top 10 sexiest music videos of all time a couple of years back. In fact, I think it came in like #2 in reader voting.
The vid has everything - porn starlets, hemi 'cudas, double-necked guitars, blow pops, and a donkey...

@genmaximus110 You know if this song is featured on Empire Records?...I could have sworn I saw it in the credits, but don't remember hearing it.

VERY under-rated band , wish they were still around because their music would be relevant to today's music

One of the TRUE classics from the 90's. Sad that recording companies STILL can't seem to get it right.....

I bought this album in a $1 bin in Berkeley, CA in 1997.

Anybody know any site that gives lyrics for Fig Dish. I love the band, but some songs I have no idea what they are saying half the time.

I miss Fig Dish! And Local H! Those were good times.

How I loved this band. I agree with the "should've been huge" thing.

It really was a shame. I always hoped for a third album from them.
