living in dymchurch as a child we had to travel on the light railway everyday to get get to school in new romney, my children when we visit love the rail but for me i hate it but each to there own.....
the line is about 15km long, and the main stations are in order down the line, - Hythe - dymchurch - new romney - romney sands - and Dungeness. i just love this line, i cant get enough! hope i helped
I had my second birthday on this railway and have visited subsequently nearly every year. As I do not live too far away.(About 15 miles). I really love parts of England like this. Great video. Cheers.
Wonderful, truly wonderful. This video took me back 50yrs when I was in a childrens home. Every year we had a two week holiday somewhere on the south coast and twice I remember going to Dymchurch where there was what looked liked an ex-Army camp. The railway I just adored and it still looks exactly the same as it did in those days. Thankyou so much for posting this video.
That Army Camp is still there, its an Electronic Target Range now. I went there with the Air Cadets a few times, my CO wasn't pleased when I disappeared one morning to watch the steamies go by on the light railway, which isn't too far from the ETR.
Thank you for informing me of that, I would have thought it had been knocked down years ago and a housing estate had been built to replace it. I might just take a visit to see the camp and railway.
Very nice! How fast do these trains actually travel. I visited the RHDC rly in 2002 - the train was hauled by a blue diesel locomotive although it seemed to travel at more leisurely speed. Thanks for posting this video!
Excellent film! Accurately conveys the atmosphere of the railway and the geography of the area. George in the Bar Car "Gladys" is a gem! A man of great humour and kindness, he once treated us to an unsurpassable commentary on the landscape we passed through.
It's great to see local talent on youtube lol. I've rated your clip as awesome. Please check out mine on the Hythe railway and 1920's railway tobacco cards.

I never made this film. It was shown on TV and I posted it here because I know that there is a lot of interest in the railway.
Glad you enjoyed it.

I'm not sure of the exact speed, but you do get the feeling they're quite nippy when you ride in them, even when pulling 30 carriages.
