  • Very Nice Vibrato, Work on keeping sustained notes higher up in the scale in tune, keep a steady air stream and work on tonging lighter. Other than that, very nice job!

  • All I can say is more practice and play with a more open sound. Check some of my vids...they arent that great but they could help

  • not bad,but your sound needs some maturity to get that full, rich, and beautiful dark sound.vibrato is an important asset in playing, but should not be the main focus

  • Is one of your solos part of the piece named American Cameos

  • Nice tone. Keep up the good work. Long tones and lip slurs helped me out alot. They're not fun..kind of like doin pushups...

  • These messed up comments are unnecessary! He was just trying to get tips, not be insulted!!! Grow up and help or keep your comments to yourself.

  • Your air support is above all the most important thing. I can't do this, but my instructor can sit the trumpet on the palm of his hand and slur up to double C with 0 pressure and just faster air. Thats how you become more efficient and end up being able to play for hours and hours without getting tired. Your doing great though, keep it up. Check out my vids if you want.

  • Your sounding great bud, A little constructive criticism. Work on your air support. Keep it moving at all times.

  • watch your intonation, great releases, faster valves, and great start to your music career

  • you sound a little airy but to fix that just work on air control also and some partical exericises might help

  • do u have sheet music for simple gifts? f u can plz send me thx!!

  • what grade did u start playin in im in my 5th year been playin since 5th grade u should listen to wvu bands simple gifts its amazing

  • I started playing in 7th grade.

  • Your 3 dotted quarter high G's and the dotted quarter F should be accented.

    @ :32, I mean.

  • Yeah? Well you're ugly.

  • Also -- how do you know he's ugly? Just wondering. If I were you I'd just challenge him to post a reply video of him playing if he wants to say you're horrible.

  • I know you.

  • I was making a joke. Of course I don't know he's ugly; I was being facetious. I don't really see the point in challenging him to do better since he never said he could.

  • I will agree it sounds bad, but just the tone. The technique isn't too bad.

  • you should play concert etude =]

  • Nice vibrato. I'm working on that now, I think my embouchure is the reason why I'm having such a hard time.

The best of luck to ya, lad!

  • you sound good man

if anything I would suggest the tone on some notes were a little out of it, but just keep practicing and that will be gone

    it sounded amazing

  • very pretty vibrato. i was suprised to read this was a preformance from a 5th grader. your already better than a lot on youtube. practice lip slurs and long tones and some articulation and you will improve more.

  • Thanks, but I think you read the description wrong. When I recorded this I was in my 5th year as trumpet player; I started in 7th grade and am in college now. Thanks for the comment though!

  • oh hahahaha that would explain why you were so good

  • i don't think it was from a 5th grader, i think he/she has been practicing for 5 years.

  • Make your tonguing more consistent. Some notes have a really solid articulation and others are iffy. And like the guy below me said, you really have to barrel into those higher notes.

  • i have played all 3 of those songs. all i have to say is to keep your airstream moving all the time and when you slur up to higer notes to really push your air.

  • i love the trumpet ive been playing mine since 5th grade

  • TRUMPETS ROCK!!! haha. i think we can rest assured that everyone who watches this video is a trumpet player or atleast a restpector of those who do. i mean, why would someone who's not a band dork(such as i totally am :)) look up trumpet videos on youtube?? i love my trumpet and i think i'll put some of my band's videos on here one day. stay tuned...

  • very nice solos my friend,

    i also play the trumpet,

m in my freshman year at highschool and im so siked =]

hopefully i could sound as good as you.

  • you know the buzzing book?

  • Nope. Is it a method book?

  • I play trumpet as well. I just fininshed my sophmore year at school and have been playing in band since 6th grade. I messed around with trumpet when I was like 5 years old because my aunts played. I taught myself to play Hang On Sloopy in 1st trumpet my 6th grade year

  • im about 2 start playing trumpet/ baritone: i hope i can play that 2 once i get going! Very Good!!

  • ive been playing three years and that was pretty good

  • Those are really good! I'm in my 4th year of playing the trumpet. I hope I can become that good! Keep on going with it.

  • You sound pretty good kid. Work on lip slurs, helps with accuracy. I'm impressed only been playing for 5 years. Nicely done. I've played for 15 years including 5 years professionally.

  • hey all! i am a trumpet girl one of the 2 in my band and im in my 3rd year im 13 years old and can say i sound NO WHERE NEAR as good as this u rock dude. excellent tone! awesome! great job. just wish i was as good

  • Symphonic dance is awesome

  • that was very very nice!!! i play trumpet too!!! i sit on youtube all day tring to find good trumpet music and that is the best one i have heard by far!!!! keep up the good work

  • oh wow I'm playing symphonic dance #3 at my college. Fun piece, keep up the good work. preactice, practice, practice.

  • get ur vibrato consistent on All notes

  • very good job. NOT to bad. but hey...in symphonic dance #3 "fiesta" you are imitating a "bull" amigo. so your sound has to sound strong, wide (heavy), dark and i would say a good FF with dynamic. I played that solo for regional honor band 2007, az west region. I was first chair.

    Hugo

ps great job! keep it up. i need to put some solos up myself.

  • youre excellent, if you concentrate on tounging softer, things will come out easier, and sound even better

  • You have really good tone most of the time. Just keep at it and practice. I find that long tones help me build up endurence better than anything. I've played one of those solos before. Simple Gifts is the name of it I think. It's a really easy solo and I liked what you did with it.

  • Nice; but try to keep a steady air stream going at all times, "between the notes." Keep your air steady and try to think: I'm just pressing the valves over the steady flow of my air. Don't know if I'm expressing this well, but this is what my new teacher has started me doing, and it works. I sound better already in just a short period of time using this approach. Keep up the good work; you're on your way!

  • Not bad. You have good tone, especially when you blow long notes.

  • Not bad. Keep working on your intonation - add more feeling to your technical skills.

  • ur right but it builds up ur umbrosure i cant spell it but u know wat im saying

  • I understand. My other vid has me playing some higher stuff, but its not the best I could do. I might record a better one today or tomorrow.

  • ur playing peices that dont get above the staff u need to try to get higher

  • dude he went over that read the rest of the posts...playing higher does not equal playing better

  • sokocool92.........jerk!

  • keep practicing, if you think playing for 5 years and only playing like this will get you pro, YOU ARE WRONG. work on it (work on faster more challenging music, not this grade 3 crap), try some grade 5 solos, maybe listen and try to get music for some MAYNARD FERGUSON pieces (look him up on projectplaylist . c o m look for bird land it rocks)

  • Third Suite III-Rondo is grade 5. Plus, this wasn't to show the best of what I could do, this was mainly just stuff I've played in the past that I wanted to record myself playing. Also, the playing high=playing well mentality is that of an 8th grader. Nothing against you, just that's the way I see it; playing high isn't always the best. Almost everyone who thinks higher is always better (that I've seen) sounds like crap in the lower register.

  • This is coming from a tough critique and someone who has also has only been playing 5 year

    1) you lost your pitch a few times at the start

2)good speed in changing your notes

    3) articulation : it does not exist.

    4) Your technique is ok but play some higher stuff, this made you look pathetic

  • You go bro! You freaking rock! I would critique but I know nothing of trumpet solos!

  • Good Job Justin!

  • WOW this guy is really good for playing for only five years! This guy is good enough to become pro!
