Has anyone found the original version? The one played with Partch's instruments? A small part can be heard right when the documentary "The Outsider" (BBC) begins, and it sounds great.
I like the vibraphone. Its an instrument I usally dont like, its use is usually too childish or tribal. Is it tuned in 12tet? Do you know the tuning? I mean tuning, not scale, the actual hertz. Anyways, been hearing this on my ipod since the day you uploaded it, cant thank you enough for this one...
the scale in the beggining reminds me of the indonesian pelog scale. Or slendro i am not sure, is there a connection there? anyone knows the intervals for the scale?
Sigh, its really discouraging. Some say we should evolve by removing the tonic, forgetting about harmonic tension and resolution, and creating tension and resolution with new creepy ways, all still within the symmetrically atonic and ambiguous 12T. Others say we should evolve by creating more types of tensions and resolutions by ditching T12 and using a higher limit in a new tuning. Physical harmonic evolution based on historical evolution of limits or abstract disengagement? How to choose... :3
@Hero0fSilence You don't have to choose, you can do BOTH. Or, you don't have to do any of it. I am for the gradual introduction of all the changes you mention. Don't feel discouraged, feel amazed that all those changes are possible and available now. Freedom.
@sikyatavo I know what you mean, when people contribute to the evolution of music, they shouldnt think of creating new standards for a modern 'common practice period'.
Wow, I didnt knew Partch worked with other scales other than his 43 tone one. It sounds amazing. Do you have any more information on this scales? More specifically on the tuning. I was able to get some of this on my piano but the tuning is completely off (as expected). I found this to be the Olympos and the Archytas scales but not much besides that. And whats all that with "limits". What is the limit in this scales? Do you know about harmonization in them?
Lovely. I'd love to hear the original instruments...

I enjoy this music very much. I also think the image of the sculpture is very beautiful. Do you know where it is from, or who made it?

Yeah, I just wish I had been there earlier when Harry was around. Danlee Mitchell, who had the care of the instruments, also inspired me.

My man Harry. I taught at SDSU in the jazz dept and got to play around with H's instruments.
