What i find most tragic about this issue, is that the majority of people were probally convinced by the bigots that they were helping society. It's just a shame they haven't realised that their religion is bad for society.

the road to hell remains paved with good intentions i guess.i have little doubt that those involved thought they were doing the right thing,to the extent that they "thought" at all.the problem is that they did not think much at all about the boundaries between their lives and choices,and the lives and choices of others.nor did they think about the carefully constructed ones placed between their religion and their government.

England and Isreal both successfully passed legisation allowing gay marriage with one catch. They declaired that the government has no right to define marriage. There for all marriages are considered "civil unions" by the state. From what I have read this seems to be a good solution for countries like the US. I'm particularly disturbed that prop 8attempts to completely take this solution off the table. Good thoughts.

that is in many ways what i think would be the best solution.the government handles civil union contracts as a purely legal arrangement,and it is up to people to find whatever group they want to give them a marriage if they so desire.i can only imagine how the evangelicals would cry out against such an "attack on marriage" though.
